Well thanks for that USAFMTL, you're knowledge combined with the fact that the interception will take place almost directly above me has certainly eased my mind

The entire satillite will be heated to several hudred degress celcius by re-entry and with enter a very violent multi-axis spin sue to iits nonaerodynamic shape. If the space shuttle's aluminium structure gets heated above 300 or so degrees, it becomes pliable enought that it can no longer support the aerodynamic forces of re-entry. Make no mistake, unless they keep the fuel in an safe with steel sides an inch thick, the fuel will either reach it's self-ignition temperature, burst into an easily ignited spray of hydrazine when the fuel tank breaks, or be dispersed so widely as to have no real effect whatsover.

Sounds like a good opportunity for a Surface to Space interception test, don't have those too often for obvious reasons. And it'll take more than one satellite with some leftover hydrazine to be a problem, the hydrazine with definitely ignite during re-entry, and the chemcal byproducts will be no more harmful than SUV exhaust

The jet engine works by compressing and heating air as a working fluid, the heated air expands out in one direction and provides thrust right? The engines looses efficiency due to the smaller temperature gradient between the inlet gas and the combustion chamber, and this loss of thrust can be very serious for a Vtol, considering it has no aerodynamic lift. the same thing happened in the hot climate of Vietnam and Iraq, heavily loaded aircraft had a hard time getting into the air. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnot_cycle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brayton_cycle Likewise the reason aircraft cruise at high altitude (in addition the the reduced drag due to atmospheric density) is that at high altitude where the air is cold the temperature gradient is improved. Again, for the same reason some engines are fitted with water injection and pre-cooling (I knew that staying awake in Thermodynamics class would pay off) -

It's alright, just tickled me a bit, anyway I used the mirage factory's skin as a base so you should probably credit them. -

Playing with pylons
CrimsonRoamer posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I've been playing with adding multiple missile pylons to other aircraft. Specifically the 'two sidewider' pylon from the F-4, the 'two sidewinder and fuel tank' from the F-15, and the AGM-65 maverick triple rail. The problem is that I don't know what the model names are to put in the data.ini Help would be appreciated -

Aha, success I added another pylon entry in the same place but 0.3m higher on the z-axis, thanks for the help Another thing I've been playing around with are macross style micromissile pods I modified the rockets from the LAU-61 rocket pod with active radar seeker for a 38 rocket Macross Missile massacre -

I'e been working on a new mission for the past few days. Based on the Area 88 manga, you are part of a group of 10 Kfir C2's (with a new skin) pitted against the 15 MiG 27 Flogger D's of the Wolfpack over the Desert terrain. Contrails are set to start at low altitude for those cinematic turning dogfights Development is completed but I need permission from the Mirage factory to release the skin for the Kfir. I'm planning to release it jointly with the mission. Here are the screens -
