dual core or quad core!
SFP1Ace replied to irati's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Perhaps it's best if I simplify this and just pick a built-in single missions in each game, and measure fps with FRAPS in DCS and SF2 after mission starts. In Il-2 I'll run the Black Death ;) I know the Il-2 is single threaded, but there's still 10-20% clock difference between Pentium G and i5 so I might as well measure it. I'll get back to you tomorrow with the results as it will take me some time to have all those game installed and set up. -
dual core or quad core!
SFP1Ace replied to irati's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Sure, 2 issues though: 1. I don't have any of those games on my hdd atm, so I'll need to DL/install them first. 2. We need to decide on a particular baseline game setup - SF2 vanilla or modded? Sf2:E or SF2:NA with the LOD engine? Specific pre created .msn mission file that you'll send me? Il-2 vanilla 4.12.2 or HSFX7? Which mission? DCS World or FC3 or A-10C? Where do I measure FPS - in the cockpit as soon as the mission starts? Is FRAPS OK? Etc., etc. ;) -
dual core or quad core!

Games in this review are extremely GPU limited hence the small difference between different CPUs (Metro Last Light stands out however). Brain how about I do this - I'll switch off 2 cores out of my i5 4670k and down-clock it to 3 Ghz which will place it roughly at that Pentium G level (minus the larger Cache of i5). Then we can run SF2, IL-2, DCS on my setup and compare? Whaddya say? -

Depending on how multi-threaded AND CPU dependant the game is, you can get anything between 10-100% more fps between Haswell Pentium G and "lower-grade" i5 4440 for example. Whether it justifies the 2-3x price increase is up to you ;) -
Got my first gray hair (just a few of them) back in high-school. Now (at 31), I've got plenty of them on my temples, and few in some "other" places

Targets.INI and frame rates question
SFP1Ace replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It uses less space on the hard drive, but decompresses to exact same size in Video Card's memory. You only saving the disk space, nothing more. -
Like Maher said, "You don't give up the movie's ending in the effin' TITLE!" XD

new SF2 video by yes Mlracing
SFP1Ace replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I reckon that if we could come up with several thousands of $ than we could try to hire some freelancer (posting ads on various forums) to at least unlock the weather to pre December 2010 levels and fix First Eagles random weather generator bug. Using a pre-made patcher software that would wouldn't include any original TW files, thus complying with TK's policy. If that would work then we could pick it up from there. But I wonder we'll able to gather a couple of hundred $, not to mention thousands..... -

Yeah, it would be a real shame to get CA in legal trouble over this. Maybe hacking SF should be pursued at other venues? For example The Dark Wraith at subsim doesn't have any issues patching Silent Hunter 5 .exes to fix lots of bugs, and it doesn't seem that UBISOFT is suing his ass any time soon. :) -

Dunno, it looks VERY convincing. Besides this guy seems to be made in China and we all know that the Chinese R THE haxxorz :] And we all know that, unlike most of the good CA chaps from the western hemisphere, the Chinese are less likely to be afraid of the legalities involved with modifying/reverse engineering TK's code which gives this video more plausibility. imho. -
Strange resolution after hitting escape
SFP1Ace replied to bruceD's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
People were getting this kind of behaviour in SF2 games and Win 7 until TK patched it out sometime in 2012-2013. Since FE2 is still at July 2010 then you know...Just don't pay much attention to it and enjoy the game :) -

Can't get over how good SweetFX is!
SFP1Ace replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Technically CFS3 (and thus WOFF) is a DirectX 7 game (Direct3d 7 specifically) and lacks many features of a DirectX 9 game such as RoF - Self Shadowing, Normal/Bumpmaps, Global Illumination, HDR, Reflective Water, Programmable Shaders, Multithreading and the list goes on. STILL, for such a crappy 3d engine straight from year 2002 the artistic direction and the "feel " of WOFF's graphics is very good. Just my .02$ :) P.S.The best thing that could happen for WOFF is for OBD team to drop the crappy CFS3 and develop it further on a brad new, modern 3d engine... -
Or it was wrong shader statements in the terrain data file.

SF-2 Future
SFP1Ace replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
- "Arm all" button at the loadout screen so that we can avoid painstakingly changeing the armament for every single ac in our flight - smarter wingmen that actually listen to orders and can use smart bombs - more gameplay features like: -you don't have to be a flight leader all the time - saving tracks for later replay - taking actual photos during recon missions and using such photos for target ID during strike missions - working blue side SAMs that show on RWR and have more deployment arrangement types than standard SA-2 one - working GCI with EW Barlock radars actually doing something and directing interceptors at you instead of being ARM fodder... - tweaked radar ranges and radar strengths to a realistic levels so that (for example) F-4 doesn't detect a fighter sized target from a 100 NM out - event logging to an external file so that better 3rd party campaign generators can be created ( vide OFF or RoF) - proper (i.e. not stand-in) speech packs for RAF, Luftwaffe, AdA etc. - awacs not only on naval maps and for the red side in a campaign too... - MANY MORE....... -
SF-2 Future
SFP1Ace replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It wouldn't be in his short-term interest to give such a note. After all a "possibly still supported" product will sell better than "officially not supported anymore" one... -
Yeah, the game uses only fixed T&L (transformation & lighting - DirectX 7 features) and no programmable pixel & vertex shaders (DIrectX 8 and newer), unlike Falcon BMS 4.32 which is a DirectX 9.0c beast :)
-
Well I "think" that the game must at least utilise DirectX 9 to make the SweetFx work - Falcon 4 AF is a DirectX 7 game, iirc.

Returning to Strike Fighters
SFP1Ace replied to saisran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
What I meant was that for gaming purposes your laptop has definitely better GPU (nothing to write songs about tho) but slightly worse CPU than saisran's one. -

It will be truly awesome - once they figure out how to create dedicated avionics and not to reuse the falcon ones...

4 GB patch
SFP1Ace replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Only as far as leaving whole 4GB for the game's 32-bit process. If your PC had "only" 4GB of RAM then the game would have available less than that, because windows itself would "eat away" between 0.5 and 1 GB of RAM. With 8 gigs of memory you've got much more breathing room for running some apps in the background, etc.
