gunbus skin
extremeone replied to gambit168's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
Wow, very nice gambit, thank you. Glad you found this one and also thanks for the Taube - also a great skin. Highly recommend both of these plus the skins for Stephen's Nieuport 10s you did a while back. -
Thanks Stephen, an great addition and an really good model. It's an wonderful looking biplane, with the cockpit and nose modelling especially nicely done.
-
Great plane and FM. A real enhancement to FE2. The nose work and the cockpit look superb. Thank you very much guys.
-
Yes, expect this would be a hard aircraft to model with its streamlined fuselage and a hump near the front, but this looks great.
-
Thanks Stephen and Ojcar. Another superb addition to FE- love these early planes and 2-seaters, and an great model and an very good FM. Really looking forward to the Roland D2 too.

Nice additions.

The Fokker D3 looks great and its nice to fly. The linen skin looks the part too. Thanks Stephen and Ojcar!

Yes, I agree. And many more that would be great to have in the game as well. I think that some of the the best of the truly amazing additions to FE2 the past couple of years have been all the 2-seaters that were sorely lacking in the past. The palestine, russian and italian fronts expansions (planes as well as campaigns, terrains) have greatly added to and improved the game as well. But some really big improvements for me have been the better and more realistic models of some our existing planes initially done ages ago - the ones that you live with for completeness, but just detract from the game. Planes like the Albatros D2, Airco DH4, Fokker D2, RAF Be2s, Martinsyde G100, Halberstadt D and others. The Triplane is in that latter category. The real one was far more sleek looking than the stubby model currently in the game, especially the nose, perhaps the wings too. I's obvious when you look at pictures or videos of replica Triplanes. I like the Tripe as do many I think, and the current one is just an eyesore . Stephen already has done a model a very good model of the Tripe, it's on his site, and it looks right. The fact it's not in the game yet seems a tragedy . Stephen also has models of the Pup and the Avro 504 on his site that could be considered - they look right./far better than what we have. And two interesting ones not yet in the game - the Blériot XI and the Taube. -
Thanks so much Geezer. Just superb, amazing modelling. And the look of the cockpit whilst flying the plane is sublime.

Fantastic. Very different aircraft and great choices. Thank you for all this work Stephen. Nice. Been waiting patiently for one of these for, well, for years and years . Excellent modelling as always. -
Yes, this is great news. It's a superb model, and the plane is an wonderful addition to the game. Thanks for all the work.

Great plane, very nicely done. Thanks again Stephen, especially for all these wonderful 2-seaters you have produced.

question on installing FE aircraft into FE2
extremeone replied to xeroluck's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Yes, that is right. In the data file in the newly added "Single Schwarzlose Angled" folder in the Weapons Folder , it has a line ... GunTypeName=8MM_SCHWARZLOSE_M07/12 If the Guntype "8MM_SCHWARZLOSE_M07/12" doesn't exist as a folder in your Guns folder, you need to add it - it should be available in original download. If not, you need to create one (using the FE2 Guns Editor), or change the GunTypeName= in the data file above to something else that you have in your Guns Folder. -
Will RoF's most recent release work with XP?
extremeone replied to sixstrings's topic in General Discussions
I have an nearly identical rig to yours with XP except an GTX 770, and yes ROF will certainly work, and will likely run very nicely on your PC with high graphic settings. I have nearly everything maxed out, and mine has no issues running solidly on FPS of 40-100+. -
That could be true, but if you look at the entry in Gray and Thetford under the Albatros J.1 they write about the J class generally "...this class of machine was a continual thorn in the side of the Allied ground troops and artillery batteries as their downward-firing machine guns visciously probed and stabbed into trenches, gun pits and horse lines". This class includes the Junkers of course. The guns were probably not always mounted in operations as the J class later specialised in critical (and very dangerous) infantry contact work flying at very low altitudes relaying info during fluid battle situations on troop postions to the army commanders. The newer class CL types became the specialised ground attack class (a sub class to the J class). But I'd guess in less fluid situations and to harry the enemy or when opportunities arose, the J class planes would have also continued to perform ground attack duties. I remember now where I read about the Becker cannon - it was in an forum discussion on the Junkers J.1 by Dan-San Abbott at The Aerodrome, the "blue skies" guy. The Junkers J.1 would be a great addition for FE, its a great looking WW1 plane and especially a lot of fun as so many ground objects are being developed and added. The gun could be fired by the pilot for FE, tho maybe still a problem for the AI to handle a 45 degree shot without crashing, so perhaps more of a player type plane with the Spandaus as optional loadouts like bombs etc? So, hope we can persuade you to complete your already impressive looking model .

Have tried this out a bit now, and thanks again - this is certainly a very nice early looking German C class plane. Nicely modelled, and the nose work you mentioned is extremely well done.
-
According to Gray and Thetford "German Aircraft of the First World War" the Junkers J.1 did carry two forward 45 degree downward firing guns in a similar manner to the AEG J.1 as described by Quack. Also read somewhere that several Junkers J.1 were fitted with a Becker 20mm cannon for use against British tanks.

Supercool. just love WW1 two-seaters. For yonks, we only had two German ones - the DFWC5 and Aviatik. Then Stephen came along and transformed the game with a bunch of these badly needed planes, and of course with a whole lot other planes. Too many to count, all with cockpits as well. Epic effort! Thanks again Stephen and ojcar.

These look incredibly good. It's been like a long long Xmas with heaps of goodies since you arrived on the FE2 scene Stephen. I'm also interested in knowing that. And also your Bristol Scout model :).
-
Nice surprise. Neat little plane, looks cool and FM is great. Thank you.

Sweet. Your original French one was superb and one of my all time favourites. But this one is even better . Thanks so much! -
Caudron G.4
extremeone replied to Stephen1918's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
Thanks again for a great plane, and beautifully modelled. Couple of minor things. In FE2 the pilot lods and bpms need to go in the pilots folder to work. They don't work in the aircraft folder. The plane disappears at distances over 200m (just smoke and no plane!). You have 3 lods in folder but use only 2 in the ini configuration file, so I fixed mine by adding the third as an extra line in the ini file. Seems to work! -
Thanks Stephen, awesome plane, and great model. 36 planes! No kidding, you and Oscar deserve medals! Personally of all of them, the ones I most appreciate are the early war 2-seaters - russian, austro-hungarian, british, french and german of which there must be now 12 or more. A fascinating collection for a ww1 flying enthusiast.
