Wow great addition, fantastic.
-
Great! And your welcome.Glad we fixed it, must have been totally annoying.

hurricane3, good, we (and Wrench some time back!) seem to have identified the problem as the terrain data inis. Its probably causing your other graphical issues too. You should fix them, and best you try to extract and change the files yourself (they should have those lines), but if you can't another option below can be done .... Attached are the clean ones I just extracted, for you to download if you want. They are from FE1 Expansion Pack Version Nov 2008. They will likely work for any version of FE1 Expansion pack. I had to zip the files, can't attach text files. And have changed the lines to FALSE already. if you want to just try this just make backup copies of the wwiCambrai & wwiVerdun Folders, and put these files in their appropriate sub-directories, eg wwiCambrai Folder etc.If it doesn't work, you should just delete and restore the old version you copied. Terrain.rar
-
Odd. I just extracted the stock data files for those terrains and the standard ones definitely have those lines. You looked at the files "WWIVERDUN_DATA.ini" and "WWICAMBRAI_DATA.ini"?
-
Did you change Cambrai and Verdun, the stock ones? The post I directed you to in the TW forums seems to suggest it could also be a problem caused by stock terrains, and the ini files for them need to be extracted.

OK. That does clarify one thing though: you are not really "exiting" the game when you press ALT+E or ESC etc when using the EXIT_FLIGHT command. The controls, your keyboard are fine and work. Your exiting of missions are actually CTDs. As you have only one terrain, you could try a simple mod as Wrench suggested earlier, ie, useEffectShader=TRUE to useEffectShader=FALSE in the two places it occurs, as this was causing CTD in exiting missions for some people a few years back. Maybe your problem is a different and is a new graphics/computer problem, but its just as likely to be this one. Anyway, whatever you decide, all the best hurricane3. EDIT: Found a post on the TW Forums (in 2006!!!). Seems same as your problem. http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB3w/viewtopic.php?t=3585

That's progress hurricane3! The pop up menu activation using the ESC key is independent of the EXIT_FLIGHT=ESCAPE setting, its a setting you can't change in the controls configuration. So your problem seems now solely related to the EXIT_FLIGHT command. How about changing both it and the Quit Game command to test the exit mission command again .... EXIT_FLIGHT=ALT+E QUIT_GAME= That is, no quit game command, and a new exit flight command ALT+E key assignment as the exit and quit commands maybe in conflict, doing the same thing. ALT+E is good as it doesn't clash with other keyboard commands (the E you used earlier clashes with the TOGGLE ENGINE command in stock FE).
-
Okay, but everything is then working oddly with your setup and/or your ESC key. In FE2 default, hitting the Esc key in any screen will bring up a sub-menu in the top left corner, not take you back to a previous screen, except in the case of a Mission where it exits the mission. Try modifying the key assignment text file with Notepad for the exit mission command (with something not elsewhere used, like ALT+E). Key assignments are in a file called default.ini in the Controls directory. Just copy that file and name the copy to say something mydefault.ini then select that new file in the game selecting Options then in the drop box "Keyboard Control Map". Either try that or reinstall the whole game IMO.
-
That's weird you can't reassign the exit mission or quit game key if you have permission. Is the message a system message or a game message? You could try changing the key in the default.ini file in manually with a text editor, then make the file read only to test if it works. This is also strange. If the Esc Key is assigned to Exit Mission in FE, it should only work exiting missions AFAIK, not on other screens or anything else.
-
The Esc Key for exiting misssions can be changed to anything you like. You could try another key to see if its still a problem.

The Nieuport 17\23 Pack For FE1
extremeone replied to keif149's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Had similar difficulties some time back. Its probably a Unicode problem. To fix, open the aircraft.ini file in the aircraft folder, eg, for the Nieuport23 plane open the Nieuport23.ini file in the Nieuport23 folder (in the Aircraft directory), and use the option "Save As" to save it as an ANSII text file. It probably is an Unicode file and if so that would be the problem. If this works, do this for each aircraft ini file. Hope that helps keif. -
10 N10 skins
extremeone replied to gambit168's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
Fantastic skins! Muchas gracias. -
Great. Seems to have completely fixed the problem. No issues so far after throwing the Alb around for 30 mins or so. Previously it was a problem all the time. No more. Thanks Ojcar. And thanks Panama Red. Very creative solution and the FM seems a little improved moving the min/max extents too. Seems better balanced.

No, just flying. Happening most of the time. Reduced the Prop Diameter progressively, its 2.34 now, and no problems taking off, just flying. Mainly during sudden downward movements. I'm playing FE2.
-
Yes, and even in combat the prop continually falls off. A great model for FE, thanks very much Stephen and Ojcar.

LOL. Good to hear. Did well. Amazing that a problem like that would impact your TW games. Cheers.

Ah good you've done that Grinseed. Yes, can imagine, it is very frustrating isn't it? Re tutorial, sorry, the link was truncated, its http://voices.yahoo....385.html?cat=15 . Only a couple of minutes, simple advice to ascertain your DirectX install integrity. From your reply it appears you have, but just in case ... have you cleaned up your registry entries, and completely cleaned your graphics drivers - ie, uninstalled, cleaned remaining bits remaining, installed again? Graphics drivers often get corrupted after a while with bits and pieces remaining from older ones. Must say it does sound odd you could never run FE2, as it runs under DX9 on my computer, just not as well as later versions of DX I guess but its fine, big improvement graphics wise - is it the same problem as with FEG?
-
If running FE2 and TW games is your only problem, that seems drastic. Because the prob is not hardware nor a virus if other non-TW games are okay. And your FE2 install is likely okay if the problem now extends to all your TW games all at the same time. Probably something to do with corrupting some basic stuff like DirectX, and maybe beause you installed an older game that overwrote some basic software like DirectX or corrupted it. Assuming you run some version of Windows, XP or similiar? If so, this is what I'd suggest: First, check integrity of DirectX. I think you need DirectX 9.0c at least. So check you have that at minimum, and it is not corrupted. See here for very simple video tutorial on checking your version or if DirectX install has problems. http://voices.yahoo....ors-409385.html. If there are problems, you may need to update your Windows Service Pack (Windows Update tab on bottom of screen usually). This is a good idea anyway, essential to protect against viruses. Do that, restart computer, check integrity of DirectX files as before if problem fixed, then try game. If not fixed, then try re-installing your DirectX version directly (think it would be 9.0c at least)... see here for steps how to do that ... http://pcsupport.abo.../directx9xp.htm. For example this is where to download DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft directly to reinstall ... http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=35. If this DirectX isn't your problem, you may need to try reinstalling some other stuff too like MS Net Framework and Java. Also importantly clean up and uninstall graphic drivers, then reinstall fresh as graphic drivers are often corrupted over time. But one step at a time ...

Ah, could be. I had just upgraded PCs when FE2 came out, never had everything maxed out whilst playing FE1 but do on FE2. Could be the reason I never saw that. Yes I am. If no one here knows why, perhaps ask TK on his Forum about it?

I get the lines in many add-on planes in FE2. Depends on my graphics settings. Fiddling around with the AA and AF in a graphics enhancer like Nvidia Control Panel can eliminate them. But fixing that is a compromise, as I need to either reduce the graphic settings or if keeping them high but eliminating the lines it can result in other side effects (like seeing some panel lines on the fuse/wings, sort of looks like stitching!). It could be models done for FE1 don't port perfectly to FE2 (there's definitely some changes in FE2), as never experienced any of this in FE1. Or maybe because I'm running XP, so no DX11 and FE2 is designed for that I believe. So on balance, the lines don't worry me too much, I'd rather have the graphics maxed out and FE2 is generally far better than FE1. DK if others have a problem on FE1 though with yours, I'm assuming it is only those playing FE2. Anyway, thanks so much for the new models - great work.
-
Thanks Stephen1918! The new lods fixed the white patch. Glad it was an easy fix. This N12 is a real beauty. Nice plane, surprised nobody did it before. All your work is excellent, but the N12 with the Etévé gun mount, the different mounting of the wing Lewis, the wing cutout (produces great shadow effects too) is a gem. Can imagine it was lots of work. One of the best addon models done for FE. Already my all-time favourite. Thanks again!
-
Really super model - mega thanks stephen. But I get the same funny lines and worse, a very annoying and weird white graphical glitch - it disappears if I zoom out a fair bit. I'm playing FE2 with XP.

Probably an issue with the setup of the GTX295, not the game. When I first got the GTX295 I ran benchmarks, some were not an improvement on my previous GTX260. I was ready to take it back, but after some checking Nvidia Control panel assumed one card and one GPU (from my old GTX260), and when I changed this in the profile plus a couple of other things (after doing some reading) the GTX295 doubled the GTX260 performance consistently. There are ROF Nvidia profiles available now for dual GPUs (I use one from EVGA, but don't have an EVGA card), and for SLI. Can't say if there are issues with SLI or not, could still be. But multi GPU cards need to be setup to run for some games. It is not like a single gpu card - plug and play, unfortunately. Depending on the game, the OS, and whether or not you reinstall Nvidia Control Panel you may need to get it working - but it certainly will work on all games (that I have) including RoF.
-
I'd agree with nearly all you wrote, but I have a GTX 295 and both gpu's run fine. No problems with the game. In fact the game runs smoothly and beautifully with everything maxed out.

They all say that about the next release. But it works like this: 2 steps forward, 1 step backward. And the OFF AI are coming off a very low base.
