HMS Hermes
Hinchinbrooke replied to Hinchinbrooke's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Suicidal, Are you using the old 'catapult' trick to place objects on the flight deck............ or something else? Agreed, it would be nice to place all sorts of things........ crew members, tractors, etc........... but then the poly count goes up so much. I'm thinking of putting a few basic tractors, etc., along with my 'stick' crew members on Hermes, when she's done. -

Thanks SB. Here she is at sea. -

Well, your best bet is to remove all the unneeded polys for underwater. No one will notice the remains of the hull. Go from there. -

Nice work Geezer! You'd hardly know that fourth aircraft was there. -

Might not look as though much has been done............................ but the island comes along (after a couple of weeks working on other projects). -

Although, Wrench, you should probably use the 'Oklahoma' for Pennsylvania, as "Pennsy" had rebuilt tripod masts as opposed to the cage masts of Tennessee/California. Looking good! -

Very nice Veltro! I only wish I had the time to really build the faux ships. One day, perhaps. -

Which reminds me. I have that fake Kongo Class fast battleship to fix up and pass along. (Note to self.) If there were more hours in the day and the game engine did naval/carrier operations proud................... who knows? -

Nice work on the Fletcher. I shouldn't worry too much about firing arcs and engagement ranges, as long as they aren't ridiculous. Naval gunnery in TW games is at best dubious. As for gun flashes, I believe that after some point (arcs), things go haywire......... so you might want to return to whatever worked. Having a lot of useful AA is pretty much all you can ask for. -
For the ultimate symphonic experience.......Rued Langgaard................ or perhaps Sir Arnold Bax................... maybe Giuseppe Martucci.

You can't beat anchovies on toast............ unless it's Marmite toast. And even then, it's a toss up. As for spam.............. spam fritters were something we had to suffer in junior school. Never again.

Glad it's working out. I always find looking at my "Big Book of Pearl Habor" (not real name)...... is a little spooky. So many 'what ifs'. I'd like to build a real model of Arizona, but can't quite get there. Maybe if I call her Pennsylvania (where my in-laws used to live), I can build it happily. -

Wrench, You're going to have to check your mail once again......................... Fake Oklahoma leads fake Nevada. -

Wrench, What you need are a few subs for the sub base. I made a basic U-boat for Charles sometime ago for a Western Europe terrain. With a different lick of paint that might fit in (provide a target) at Pearl. -
Yep, I remember........... way back when (mid-70's say.......... Southern England).......... attempting to clear the driveway with my father's garden spade after an inch or so had fallen and stayed. Not a pleasant experience. What you need is a dedicated snow shovel. Hereabouts, you can pretty much finish 5 inches in 30 minutes.

Animating weapons so they fire

No, what I meant was................is the gun fixed or does it have to move or revolve? -

Well, technically all of the turrets can be made to work............. at least revolve and pitch their guns, but I've found, for some reason, that the forward facing turrets seem to respond better when faced with a threat. Rear facing turrets only occasionally seem to want to open up. Something to do with the DetectSystem's FOV perhaps? I haven't worked it out. TW games and naval gunnery is a fairly basic relationship. -

Okay. Give me a day or so and I'll send her on. She could stand in for Arizona/Pennsylvania also. -

Wrench, Aren't those Geo's (as you surmised)? Whenever I get around to painting my Des Moines (all that's left to do, basically), you'll have something more for the 50's-60's USN. -
Playing with couple of basketballs attached to a narcissist doesn't sound a particularly compelling way to spend your time. Looks are nice, but that's plain ridiculous............... and besides a decent personality usually wins out. There's a woman across the road. Very attractive, but with the personality of a self-absorbed lamppost. Of course, it could be that my famed charisma isn't working in that case.

Gloster Javelin
Hinchinbrooke replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thinking about it, I have a Javelin sound file and will upload it, if anyone is interested. I contacted the RAF Museum at Hendon a couple of years ago, asking if they had any sound recordings of the Javelin. Apparently they don't (that was the response from the archive guy), but I did manage to locate a recording of Javelins passing over Farnborough from the late '50's (I think). Anyway, the Javelin had a very idiosyncratic sound. My sample ain't perfect (see '50's recording), but I'm prepared to rummage amongst my back-up files if people think it'll work.
