  1. HMS Hermes

    Only if he's an idiot.
  2. Navy skipper's bikini gaffe

Sorry, but this chap is a twit. I assume Commander will be his last rank. A professional doesn't go 'native' with a men's magazine.
  3. HMS Hermes

Apt enough for her present service......
  4. HMS Hermes

A pattern specially designed for her Far East/ Indian Ocean service................................
  5. HMS Hermes

A few more bits and pieces added, but been pondering details of her island in 1968, some of which are rather obscure...........
  6. Freetrack

Hollyoaks! Lucky you. Made the mistake of watching Bruno Ganz in 'Der Untergang'. A real downer if ever there was one............. and that doesn't include the viscerally disturbing parts. And to think I felt happy earlier, after having watched ManU beat Chelsea.
  7. Freetrack

You've got your very own wardroom? Must be quite the ship/abode!
  8. Faux as always (who has the time to build the Pacific Fleet), but if you can use it, I'll mail it.
  9. Californian sunshine................
  10. HMS Hermes

It'll be hard to see her go when she's finally done. I have this thought that she'll be returned to the UK and act as a Portsmouth-Plymouth/Falklands/Carrier museum. Obviously loads of upkeep, but not an impossible dream.
  11. HMS Hermes

JimmyBib, Thanks. I've seen some of those shots before. I found a site with a whole slew of pictures............ most to do with SHar/flight deck operations............ but a few of the island, etc., that are useful for modelling purposes. Not that Viraat's island is the same as Hermes' c. 1968, but some features linger.
  12. HMS Hermes

Ghostrider, Yep, she's quite the old lady. I've found some nice shots of her in Indian service which are useful for some details. I imagine that keeping her going must be quite a job.
  13. HMS Hermes

Got bored looking at Hermes, so started the overhaul of The Ark.
  14. Interesting. Well, during testing, virtual Seaslug did down an aircraft or two, so the premise works. The problem with Seaslug was by 1982 it was completely obsolete, but in its 'hey day' it wasn't too shabby. Also, I believe Seacat performed reasonably well through the crisis. No Seawolf I'll grant you, but something to lob at the enemy. I've read numerous things, but I've never read as to why they named a missile ***slug. Almost begs for disaster.
  15. sb, I don't know how things are set up in the Falklands campaign, but when I setup the County class, I chose to build a Seaslug and made that the working launcher............... just because the thing is so cumbersome.......... and is called Seaslug. If I remember correctly, the missile was used at least once, during the Falklands, for Army support............ to take out an Argentine emplacement.
  16. I don't have SF2, but SF1 related games do not allow more than one working missile system on ships. Multiple guns, but not multiple missiles, which for a County Class destroyer is a shame as some carried 3 systems (Seaslug, Seacat and Exocet). Quite the fireworks if all could work.
  17. Football (soccer to Americans) supporters topic

Soton didn't do much against ManU. 0-3 and pretty much all one way. I don't see them lasting in the Championship. By the end it was just a training session for Rooney and friends.
  18. Football (soccer to Americans) supporters topic

For a while there, especially after their disallowed goal, I thought Preston NE might draw things. Nice goal by Torres at the end though. Felt sorry for the goalie having to confront both him and Gerrard at the same moment.
  19. Football (soccer to Americans) supporters topic

Well, he's not a miracle worker (the first month's story), but mid table is better than relegation, which seemed all but inevitable under Ramos. I'm hoping Kinnear can keep Newcastle up as well.
  20. Football (soccer to Americans) supporters topic

Not Liverpool related, but just been watching the first half of the Spurs-Wigan FA Cup tie. 0-0. Let's hope the second half gets a lot better!! So far, just about the most compelling event of the game.......... a ball in the groin! Fortunately it did get better. 3-1 Spurs!
  21. How Southern are yew?

Southern England granted, but I'm not sure I pronounce 'you' ..'yew'.
  22. Here's a stand-in Kongo class fast battleship (ex-battlecruiser). And then that's it with faux stuff for a while.
  23. The battleship Mutsu operating with other members of the fake IJN. Wrench, You should have another faux battleship in you mailbox....
  24. ANOTHER CHRISTMAS ANOTHER DISSAPOINTMENT :(

I'm getting old. Very satisfactory Christmas. Nice CD of Herz' piano concertos, and Langgaard's 1st Symphony (remarkable lad................ just 17 when he wrote it). Anyway, cheers one and all.
