  1. Anyone here tried the Take Command games by Mad Minute. I have Second Manassas. It is a superb simulation of the American Civil War. There is also an excellent Mod that converts it into Napoleonic warfare. Also I have the LordZ Napoleonic Total War 2 which is again first class and recently the English Civil War mod King or Country for Med Total War 2.
  2. Where to get EAW

Once in a galaxy far far away I owned EAW! Things moved on and EAW went to the CD rack in the sky and my computer went through a road to Damascus convertion to XP. The new developments for EAW look fantastic and I would love to fly it again. Couple of questions if i may. Where can I now pick up a copy of EAW? and how can it be got to run on XP? Thanks
  3. Looking to get a WW1 Sim

Another WW1 sim often over looked is the mod for Fighter Squadron Screaming Demons. Although based on an old engine the detailing is superb. Flight models good. Plenty of aircraft and they even include seaplane action. Downside is no Campaign but there is an excellent quick mission builder and full mission builder!! I rate this little sim very highly and its freeware!! The developer ArgonV is very helpful and happy to give tips or answer questions. Well worth a look.
  4. Help Please!

I use FE Gold. I have a number of excellent add on aircraft. I have just installed the solid objects mod. Now my terrain in all areas has no trees at all. Buildings are there and they are solid!! But no trees or other ground objects. Any idea whats wrong!! Thanks!!!
  5. IMO trees not being collision modelled is a big flaw in FE. In real life you avoid ground obstacles or pay the price! I believe buildings are not collision modelled either.
  6. Whilst cleaning out my attic I came across a set of maps of the western front which were originally supplied by Rowan for their "Flying Corp" gold. I fired up OFF, dug out my old Nav protractor, Dalton computer and dividers and worked out a three way point flight path and then flew it in free flight. I found that distances in OFF were a little shorter than those on the map and OFF has more airfields than those shown on the chart but otherwise very useful and accurate. If anyone still has their copy of "Flying Corp Gold" dig out those charts and give them a try!!
  7. Strutter FM

First I have to say what a work of art the Sopwith Strutter is! A great addition to this sim! I do have a flight model question. The flight model is fine as is. The problem I had was following a collision I lost 3/4 of both the top and lower starboard wings. However I was able to bring the machine down and land her by giving full opposite rudder. I would have thought that much damage would have sent the machine down in a spiral.
  8. Strutter FM

Thanks!! It's hard to keep up with you guys!! If British industry worked at your levels we would have no recession!!
  9. I hope so. Now the darker evenings are here I have more time. I will send to you all I have done by end of October. I am also looking at campaigns for the Bristol Fighter, an RNAS campaign and one for the 00/400. Obviously all will not be ready by the end of October!!
  10. Great update!! We still need someone to give us an RE8!! Wish I could help but I can wreck an Airfix kit!! I am still tinkering with missions and hopefully will have a small pack to upload soon.
  11. New rockets! New Ballons! Missed the balloon with all rockets (typical I cant hit the side of the barn when shut in the barn!), Used machine gun, Had desired effect........it blew up! Sadly I was so close it turned my kite into a crisp! Anyone fancy rosted pilot...apparently we taste like BBQ pork!
  12. Strutter FM

Thanks for explaining. Certainly flying these machines is a challenge! I also noticed that the rudder works fine but feed in left rudder and the graphics show the rudder turning the opposite way and vice versa!
  13. Joystick issue

I fly FE using my MS Force Feed Back 2. The only problem I have is the return to centre spring is far to strong. I am developing arms like tree trunks from just poling the stick about. It's like dogfighting a Jumbo Jet! My other sims I have the return to centre spring off and just use the forces on the stick which IMO gives a far better feel. I have set a new Joystick profile for FE with the sping off but still when I fire up FE the stick goes heavy. Do any of you good people know how I can lighten up the control. I also posted this by mistake in WW1 discussion. Sorry Thanks
  14. Joystick issue

That is a very good point. I think I will leave it alone! I will just have to get use to looking like Charles Atlas (for those of you old enough to remember him)!

  17. Naval flying in WW1 really interests me. The only WW1 sim before to tackle it is FS WW1 which included seaplanes and even early carrier operations. There is also the chance to fly a seap[lane from a battleship by being winched down to the water and then you have to taxi back under the winch to be taken out after the mission is over!
  18. Possible to tune down the torque?

Torque was a real problem in these machines. Especially with rotary engines where you not only had torque but gyroscopic effects of a mass of metal whirring round!! Also there was no trim to set to aid on take off. Couple that with wind effect and take off was a real nightmare. When I learnt to fly *@"* years ago I was told that an aircraft was designed to fly. Not to take off or land which is why both activaties are the most dangerous parts of flight. I find with this sim it is best to anticipate the torque effects on take off and try to "catch" the aircraft early to hold it on course and reasonably level.
  19. Credit for Kills

I was dogfighting two Albatross 1's. Sent one down in flames. The other, after I put a few bullets into him did the most stupid manouver I have seen and buried himself into French soil. Won the mission!! Great!! Get back to base to find I am credited with one kill!! I am assuming this was my flamer!! Why was I not credited with my second kill? Is frightening the enemy into crashing not good enough? Hell I sweated blood for those kills! Just because the Boch employ airmen who can't fly, please don't deprive me of my laurels!!
  20. I have never seen the double headed gunner! But in combat two pairs of eyes has got to be better than one!!
  21. REAR GUNNERS

It seems to me alot of sims suffer with the "Dead eyed Dick" rear gunner problem! In fact it is very hard to hit another aircraft that is moving about at speed, from another aircraft that is moving about at speed with a machine gun that also moves and has (Up until the invention of the hydraulic turret) to be shifted about manually! Having said that Richthofen was badly wounded by (I stand to be corrected) the rear gunner of an RE8.
  22. Harry Patch

Very sad to hear that Harry Patch died last night. He was the last English veteran of WW1. I recently read his biography. A truly remarkable man. He instructed his machine gun crew to aim low so as to wound the Germans in the legs rather than kill them. He was the sole survivor when his crew were hit by a whizz bang. The flash and bang of which haunted him for the rest of his life.
  23. I notice on the news this morning the last RNAS pilot and founder member of the Royal Air Force Henry Allingham has died aged 113 years. He was an observer at the Battle of Jutland and later flew on the western front. He gave the reason for his longlevity as "Whiskey, cigarettes and women!" God bless and rest in peace.
  24. Download problem

I have just tried to download some Albatross skins and recieved a message saying I did not have permission to download as guests need to register. I am registered and logged in!! Help?????? Please?????
  25. Download problem

    Yep! Thanks!
