He mainly flew his Albatros but did on occasion fly a DR I, but never had a victory in it. On August 10, 1918 while flying his Fokker DVII, Lowenhardt collided with Leutnant Alfred Wenz of Jasta 11. Both men jumped from their planes but Lowenhardt was killed when his parachute failed to open. He is credited with 54 victories. He did fly a DR I but markings are speculative and taken from photo’s of his Albatros and DVII planes. He was killed in combat on June 26, 1918 when his black Fokker DVII, distinctively marked with a gold star on the fuselage, was shot down by the Sopwith Camels of 210 Squadron. He started flying Fokker DR I 168/17 in May 1918 when Jasta 5 started receiving triplanes from other Jastas because of the allocation of the Fokker DVII. He served with Jasta 5 until August 15, 1918 when he transferred to Jasta 71. He is credited with 2 victories. He used this triplane when Jasta 5 received triplanes from other Jasta's in May 1918, but he crashed landed the following month, damaging the aircraft. On September 27, 1918 Rumey's Fokker DVII was badly damaged when he collided with an S.E.5a flown by South African ace George Lawson. Rumey jumped from his plane but was killed when his parachute failed to open. He is credited with 45 victories. At some point in late June 1918, the engine of DR I 586/17(formerly the machine of Hans Kirschstein of Jasta 6) lost a cylinder in flight, tearing off the cowling and further damaging the triplane.
