New they go for about $90, I got mine from Targus http://www.targus.com , if you can not find your laptop email the tech support with the parameters of the battery, and maybe a digital photo of the plug, and they will get back to you (a couple hours and they told me which adapter to use for my HP which was not listed on their charts). Today we are moving my Drillship to a new Location off Texas, look for my ship to make some drilling news as we break the world record for water depth as Ultra Deep Water drilling breaks the 10,000' mark, with our partners ChevronTexaco. The previous record is held by our sister ship the Discoverer Spirit 9700' and some change. We are gonna show the Spirit that "Penetration is our business", and we do it "faster, deeper and with more thrust" (T shirt slogan I was trying to get approved, but it was declined for some reason???). hehe they took the pic when I was sleeping! I work nites so the only time I see daylight is in the summer time when its light out til 2000 or so. That picture is going to help me model the ship for helo landings in FS 2004 :D Cheers

We made the cover of "Offshore", not sure Sledge, we drilled one that is a world record Vertical Depth of over 31,000 TVD (True Vertical Depth), the world record I think is in the 33,000' range. The vertical depth thing is one thing, Directional drilling is another. Being that I just drive the ship I will need to consult with the toolpushers on that ;) CHeers Beer

hehe I like the shoe one and the light travels one! One of my others is "Are you picking up what I am putting down?", this is one is like stamping your foot as an instructor to let them know what you just talked about was important and should not be forgotten... Cheers Beer

Drillship In Sfp-1
Beer replied to Beer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yes it is, its an early model, I am still tweaking and mapping. I am also working going to be working with some scenery guys at Hovercontrol to make it a landable object for FS 2004 (helos), and possibly an aircraft (i.e. drivable ship for FS 2004). CHeers Beer -
LOL Good joke NC with a great follow up by snapple (by the way snapple we are still waiting for your first WU from folding :))! Note that no-one was injured in NC's joke, and the broom was left reasonably intact so in my humble and unsolictited opinion, I found a great deal of humor in it. Did you notice the broom looked made of wood and plastic so it was a definately a stealth broom, likely made by Lockheed and the Skunkworks, and probably a gift from her First Lady days. HC is the subject of many jokes, however I drew the line on the Bos'n just the other day when he put a picture of HC and her shaking hands with a Army guy in desert camo in my chart room (his office), the caption reading "keep your enemys close at hand". After all who wants to be doing chart work and look up and see HC looking at ya? I pulled that picture down the minute I saw it..."Its good to be the Mate". I would like to add a HC joke to this thread, however, it may offend some people, so if you want to know "how Bill and Hillary Clinton met", and you have a HC joke sense of humor, and your not offended by alternative lifestyle jokes, PM me for the answer. Did not see a POC for their site, I will pick this one at my expense and go for a spin, as for torpedoes it would be interesting to see if a manuveuring board solution works or not, if the targets maintain course and speed, the shot should be easy if the solution is manually plotted; just need to know the running speed of the torp, the course and speed of the target, and of course your course and speed (0 makes it easy). CH Products Pro Pedals USB all the way! I am putting together a CH Products Control Manager 3.0 review/how to that should be done early/mid Feb, the CH stuff is a tad high on the price, but worth every penny, the pedals come with inserts to stop the toe brake axis for driving games like Nascar 2003 etc. Cheers Beer

Radeon Issues Still On
Beer replied to squid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I too am running the 3.10's with a 9800 Pro at 1600x and it looks and runs great. Directx 9b, very smooth on the frame rates. Settings maxed out, vert sync I think I have off (deselected). Cheers Beer -
I believe hitting F12 resets the dot to the center, The camera view is what the seeker see's. Ensure the camera is set to view you with the reflective dot in the center of the camera. If you reposition your self in your chair and are say 2-3 inches lower hit F12 and it will recenter the dot, via software. Ensure you do not have the dot leave the camera Feild of view. I use the hat as it came. It works great with FS 2004, and SFP-1, I have ot tried it with LOMAC yet. Cheers Beer

Damn Chief, I want to, but I head back to work today :( Did not get much done this time home with the holidays, finally found LOMAC but was not able to spend a whole lotta time configuring/learning it. Cheers Beer

Convergence Zones or CZ for short, ask your instructor about it for ranges. Cheers Beer

I believe that SDirickson believes that because of the 2PL (out and Back Propagation Loss) for the Active Sonar equation, it only has 1/2 the range as Passive. This is not the case. However I would agree that in most cases Passive has longer ranges than Active (so the distractor answer "B" is an inviting choice). A perfect example of a case where Active has better range than Passive (therefore removing "B" as a viable answer) would be tracking a newer Diesel underway submerged with DIFAR bouy's. A DICASS (Active) in the same location as a DIFAR would likely have greater detection range than the Passive DIFAR. Why? The sub is quite (SL is low), and the noise from it is scattered and absorbed, thus does not make the detection threshold of the DIFAR; the Active DICASS has a SL that is high, and can make the trip out and back despite some scattering and absorption and exceeds the detection threshold. Because the SL (the Active PING) is high it can take the 2PL hit on the Active equation and still meet detection requirements. LOL Don't worry if ya get your wings, your NATOPS written Exams will be multiple choice too, with even better distractors! B) Cheers Beer

capun has done a great job tweaking my PHM (done last May) and getting it to work in game. This is a newer improved model (the first one Hawker7 helped me getting in game to shoot). Will be availible for DL soon with instructions on how to install it (vice the cheesy cargoship method I was using)...Thanks for the help! Need to weather the ship a bit, maybe some weld seems and some running rust... Other issues is would like to animate the radar spinning, and the ship seems to stop to engage the targets, this of course would make the hull return to the "displacement mode"... Cheers Beer

Capun And Beer Phm (new And Improved)
Beer replied to Beer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yep my great adventure begins in a few hours :), we got gale force winds, the ride in is gonna suck if the helo even fly's (I think they will), then the bus ride, then the sitting at airports all day; hopefully I will be home tonite (late), after a day of R and R I will get with capun and we will try an set some of these things free. The Forrestal may even be part or the package (with known issues of no T/O or landings...) So potentially the new PHM, a first release FFG, and a first release CV-59 before the new year. Of course you will have to install the package your self, we are getting away from me cargoship replacement method I used with the CV-41. I hope to get a screenie of the three ships in formation with the F-4 the A-4 and the A-7 in formation...as a look at what a Naval Modders Game could be like. Cheers Beer -
OK back when Fighters anthology was hot, and USAF was just coming out me and my buddy started flying online, we bought 3 copies of Janes USAF from EB (the day it came out!) and went to JCN to sign up. My knickname is Jimmy T (kinda boring) so I asked my buddy what they called him at work...he worked as a foreman in a lumber yard and replied "Biglog", so knowing that we were going to be a flight of three flying from the loft in my garage he became Biglog, I Biglog1, and his brother was Biglog2. Well when we got around to being recruited in USAF for Squadron fun we ended up Ho's, but the catch was the name had to start with Big_ then the next word had to start with a B, so Big_Biglog1_Ho made no sense, so we shifted to the Beer/ Brew crew. I became Big_Beer_Ho, and my buddy Big_Brew_Ho. After the Ho's left Janes USAF Fates invited us to the ODB and we have been Big_Beer_ODB and Big_Brew_ODB, but we have kinda dropped the Big over time. Thats my story and I'm Sticking to it. Cheers Beer

No argument in the quality, however not everyone is comfortable (or has the time for searching for all the components to make their own FD3) installing mods for FS, long time sim types no problem, but for guys and gals just getting into it, for under $30.00 you get the install routine, the carrier, the premade adventures, and the planes. Time is money, my hourly rate is just under what I paid for the title (my time home is more valuable than that in my opinion), the time this package saves researching, downloading, reading readme's, running install routines, etc is worth $29.00; maybe even more to someone else, especially someone without/or a poor internet connection. Free is better cost wise, but time is just as valuable. One could likely download all the items to do the Free equivent of FD 3, but how long would it take searching, installing, and configuring (then making the adventures). I guarantee the average guy with an average connection, and an average knowledge of flightsims, way longer than an hour. Hehe of course I am not counting the shipping time from Amazon! Cheers Beer

Got my copy of Flight Deck FINALLY from Amazon, ordered it Mid October (so don't order it and expect it by Xmas from Amazon!!). I really want to do a review of this but it showed up the day before I leave for work. Anyway here is a short E-2C landing Video (its not pretty, but it caught a wire). 7 Meg; 1 minute video (right click save Target) Sorry did not record the audio :( http://www.retrorelics.net/jim/FilesDL/E-2CTrap.wmv The box set and the instructions are pretty generic, the install routine has the option for install for FS 2002 or FS 2004, which is nice, your not wondering if your running the 2002 version with 2004. I have not had a lot of time with it yet, but the plane skins could be a bit better for the E-2C (it may be my resolution? The star and Bars just don't look right), but it is enjoyable to trap on something that looks pretty good :) With the exception of the issues I noted on the last screenie, the textures are most excellent! The ball is visible, but is lost in this screenshot do to resizing for posting You can see some texture issues with the flags here. Also not sure but the top deck looks tranparent (no over head) Here are some additional F-18 Pics from my last session, this was post landing. Cheers Beer
