  1. FMs for Nov 2008 version

Oh, and I noticed one thing flying Fok E.III: I stalled (wanted to make Immelmann turn. You know, the original one with stalling the plane not the roll-off-the-top manoeuvre), but quite weirdly - the plane was insanely vibrating while it was falling down vertically (that is, the bottom of my plane was pointing towards the land not the nose). I did recover from it, though, quite nicely when I pointed the nose down and played with rudder a bit. But it was weird. Yet, you've done fantastic work again :) Thank you!

Wow, thanks! I just love the 1916 era! As you said, the AI indeed uses more rudder now. But sometimes it seems that AI is using a bit too much rudder? I don't know, I just see much more strangely floating airplanes in dogfights. But then again, their manoeuvres are therefore less anticipated... So perhaps it's a good thing! It's just unusual to see.
  3. FMs for Nov 2008 version

Hm, I didn't find anything fishy in the data.ini, everything seems to be ok... Perhaps I just found a rare bug ;)
  4. FMs for Nov 2008 version

Wow, new FMs already! I tried the Brisfit with the new FM and a strange thing happened. My lower right wing was shot off, but only the middle part of it flew away, the damaged wingtip remained "attached" to the plane! I know, it's not exactly the Flight model problem, but the problem lies in data.ini anyway (I think)... See for yourself
  5. FMs for Nov 2008 version

Hehe, silly me! I somehow forgot to copy your new FM to the Pfalz directory indeed :D It flies nicely now (I like Pfalz too, it's a real beauty contest winner) Thanks, keep up the good work!
  6. FMs for Nov 2008 version

I've tried the new FMs a bit. Overall I think you've done great job again, Peter. But is the Pfalz supposed to be SO hard to turn? It dives and climbs nicely, but the only way I can get it to turn is with full rudder and ailerons and even then it takes ages. Perhaps it reflects the reality, but then the other planes should be a bit harder to turn, too (which would be great for my phlegmatic personality). Or was the difference in turning ability compared to eg Albatros really so big?
  7. WIP Strutter

Not yet, too much real life :/ Hm, did that, but it still doesn't work. Of course, I could make new animation for other side, but it seems irrational...
  8. WIP Strutter

Huh. I've been very busy with my studies and haven't had much chance to make the a/c. Anyway, found some time today and I decided to make the wires for 1 1/2 Strutter. But I'm not very good at animation in 3ds max and therefore ran into a problem: I made 2 wires for left elevator and animated them (frames 11-20) and they work perfectly (tested in game). But when I wanted to mirror-copy them to the other side (right) too, the animation got screwed up. To illustrate the problem I've included 3 screenshots. One for frame 11, second for frame 15 and the third for frame 20. As you can see from top view, the wires are gradually getting screwed somehow. But in left view it seems ok though... I guess I'm doing something fundamentally wrong here, but what? Can anyone enlighten me?:)
  9. I have a strange liking for German birds. Perhaps the reason is that my interest in aviation (in general) began after reading MvR's book "The Red Fighter Pilot" when I was very young (about 7-8 years old). After that I read alot about aviation, especially WW1 era, but I always liked the German bright coloured Albatrosses and Fokkers. And when I first played Dynamix's Red Baron game I instinctively flew for German Air Service, almost exclusively. Being Estonian, I don't have a change to fly for my own country in games. I guess I would fly for my own nation if I was French, British or Russian.
  10. WIP Strutter

Ah, stupid me. Should have read the exporter notes more carefully. I forgot that line: The only material type recognized by the exporter is the Standard Type. :D Now it works anyway
  11. WIP Strutter

Yes, I've read the notes. And the bmp is 24bit. Also, you're right - I'm using MAX2009, although the exporter in ThirdWire page should work with it (3D Studio Max (2009) Exporter Plug-in (51.4 KB). Anyway, sent you the files :)
  12. WIP Strutter

Well, after I finish the 2 seater (I hope it'll happen one day) then sure, it shouldn't be too hard to make different variants. Thanks for the offer. I'll probably use the gunner. And as for the Lewis, I am in no hurry :) Hm. Perhaps I'm missing something important. I have it set up like that: the .max file and wings.bmp are located in .../3d/Projects/Strutter/ folder. The map is applied to the object via material named "wings", which has wings.bmp as diffuse map. So, I export the model as strutter.lod in FE/Objects/Aircraft/Strutter/ folder. In that folder i have a subfolder named RFC, which contains textureset.ini and wings.bmp. The strutter.ini has this line: [TextureSet001] Directory=RFC Name=RFC Nation=RAF Specular=0.400000 Glossiness=0.200000 Reflection=0.300000 Is anything missing? Oh, and I think there's something wrong with the .out file as there are lines at the bottom: 2 Materials: ( 1) 15 - Default: <No Texture> ( 2) wings: Specular=0.00, Glossiness=0.00, Color:<0,0,0> <No Texture> 0 Textures: Why doesn't the .out file show any texture? Tried adding it manually there, but it has (and shouldn't have I think) no effect. Yes, p10ppy's works are really fabulous. I may try out your gun, too. But as I'll probably leave the armament for the last (i guess it's simple to add/change even when other things are done), let's just see what the time will bring. Thank you for your kind offer, I'll remember it.
  13. anybody still working on stuff?

Well, I've been working on Sop 1 1/2 Strutter. Don't know yet when it'll be ready as I'm having quite a busy time at the moment. But at least I'm trying :)
  14. Hi, I've recently begun 3d modelling and need some help from experienced modellers who make aircrafts for the game. I don't know very well how some parts should be made (mostly cockpit, ailerons, wires and other moving or complex parts) and I thought it would be great to learn by examining an example - a finished a/c for the game. So, could anyone please provide a Max file of an airplane? You have my word that I will use it only for learning and not for other purposes. Thanks in advance :) (My WIP Strutter in attachment, I'm fond of 1916 era and therefore this plane is a must to have)
  15. A humble request to modellers

Due to some major flaws in the blueprints I used, I had to restart my model. Made it 2-seater this time. Oh well. Anyway, I have no idea how the cockpit should look like - eg. how should windglass look like or how should the Vickers MG be mounted etc. So, does anyone have some pictures and information about this? I've included some pictures of my progress, too.
  16. Terrain DATA

So, it doesn't show up where the extract utility said it would? Perhaps you have .ini file set as hidden file in your system?
  17. Terrain DATA

    Isn't WWIVERDUN_DATA.INI located in FE\Terrain\wwiVerdun\ folder?
  18. I too have had some problems with aiming because the controls were too sensitive. I think that the culprit is my cheap and old joystick. So I tweaked the sensitivity via the .ini file (../FE/Controls/Default.ini for example). There's the line "Saturation=" which corresponds to the sensitivity slider in the game. The normal values, editable in game menu, range from 75 to 175, but I have set mine to 1750. :D Yep, that's right - ten times higher than it's supposed to be. There are altogether three of these saturation values that are needed to change (under sections [RangedControl001], [RangedControl002], [RangedControl003]). Because the game reverts these values to "normal" values while in any of the game's menu, I've set my .ini file Read only. And when I want to make changes to my key configuration, I just edit it in that .ini file or temporarily uncheck the read only tag (and back up my changes). Yet, this is an unorthodox solution, but it works for me. Most probably there're better ways to deal with oversensitive aircrafts.
  19. A humble request to modellers

Wow, p10ppy, that's a real nice looking Voisin. Very nicely detailed. I hope that one day I'll reach the same level of skill with Max :D Thanks for the model, I have a lot to learn from that. And Laton, I'd be delighted to see your Strutter work, but I hope you'll finish yours one day - probably mine won't be of best quality, it's my first a/c model after all (but I'll do my best) :)
  20. A humble request to modellers

I'm using Max 2009, but I've seen it opening much older files without any problems. Anyway, big thanks to you :) sinbad: that's quite a nice collection of a/c models there. What I found interesting is that they have really detailed cockpits for a game model and the polycount was also quite high. About 5000 is normal for FE?
  21. Here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=4636 :) I must say that my skill with Albatros has improved since I installed the new cockpit, I just have to fly with it all the time. Great job, thanks :)
  22. A/C Service start & end date amendments

Ah. Should have checked first, heh. Thanks
  23. A/C Service start & end date amendments

Btw, what's the deal with Pfalz Eindekkers? I mean, look at that: Pfalz E.I ServiceStartDate=06/1915 ServiceEndDate=07/1916 and Pfalz E.III ServiceStartDate=06/1915 ServiceEndDate=01/1916 I don't know much about Pfalz Eindekkers so could you explain why was the E.I preferred over E.III? Was something wrong with E.III, e.g. the parasol wing was a bad idea or...?
  24. A/C Service start & end date amendments

Heh, sure thing I'll be testing out the new dates in a minute. If these amendments do make a difference then this is a great improvement for the quick combat. A bit offtopic: does anyone know if there's any change the A-Team, who made the Halberstadt D.III could make the D.II? There is only a minor difference between them - D.II had Mercedes D.II engine instead of Argus As.II engine. Perhaps some other minor changes too, not sure about that. But it would be nice to have them in game for historical accuracy reasons.
  25. A/C Service start & end date amendments

Nice job, Southside Bucky! But don't you think that Albatros D.I and II should be available a bit later? I'm no expert but if I'm not mistaken the first Jastas got their Albatros fighters in September? And perhaps extend the Fok D.II to September, too?
