  1. What's the Base Sim for this one? WOE? WOV? or SFP1?
  2. Yup that's because all vanilla files are still in the .cat files in the main directory. The game engine uses mod files in mod folder first, if it can't find any, then it returns to the .cat files where all stock info is stored. Quite convenient if you ask me.
  3. I believe more Western planes had these earlier than the Russian ones. BTW, compared to WW2, the guns are bigger caliber, use explosive shells, and have less ammo. WW2 era spraying tactics is not advised anymore as only a few shell hits will already kill a plane.
  4. Guess what TK said there will be 5 new tittles to the SF2 series which excludes the remakes.
  5. OK from now on I will assume that everyone mods (blanket statement?) and all answers will be referenced to modding. That's what this site is all about anyway.
  6. Should be pretty much it. But the latest patch of SF2:V fixed the Noi Bai Airbase bug in the campaigns. Latest patch of WOV does not. Don't think Wings Over series will be patched anymore. And you can activate the A-6 by downloading a cockpit. It's easier to mod SF2 series because you don't need to extract the core .cat files.
  7. Ok. But that entails modding and not everyone goes into modding. Maybe it should be clarified between stock and modded. :D
  8. But if you already have SF2V, then skyhawks can be played in SF2E when the install is merged.
  9. But the buildings are not part of target cycling. So you can only target SAMs and vehicles aside from your primary target.
  10. Looking at the released DCS A-10 screenshots and you can't see the turbofans as well. Maybe that is the case in real life (unless you fully look back). Can any real A-10 pilots confirm? http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_425a.html
  11. Interesting. If this is proven then it's another checkpoint to add in the SF2 modding list.
  12. If you're on vista, you should be extracting the files outside the program files directory.
  13. Just to add -No multiplayer for the new series. But who's playing multiplayer anyway? -Additional variants of existing planes usually have different avionics and countermeasure setup.
  14. I'm playing SF2 and I'm also waiting for more advanced red jets to be available. :( Currently there is the MiG-31 and it's quite capable. Well I can always try out the first gen mods but I'm still waiting for SF2 compatible ones.
  15. No you have to keep track of them yourself. I just deleted evey file with reference to skies, clouds, horizons in the Flight(?) folder to get the stock skies. Just be careful about mixing and matching as they might overwrite things that you like in another mod.
  16. The best part about the new mod folder system of the 2nd Gen ThirdWire games is that you can mix and match the mod packages. For example, i took away the WideSky related files from the Vietnam All-in-One mod by simply deleting the related files. Then the game will then use stock graphics since it was never overwritten (Unlike in the old mod folder strucutre). Green Hell won't matter as I have chose low detail for ground. Then I added the SF2E mig cockpits to be able to fly the Migs (even in the Vietnam setting). I'm excitied in the upcoming Nato Fighters 4+ for SF2E and the enhancements it will bring to my merged install.
  17. Try out the sky mod first. When I say low end, i mean a laptop with intel integrated graphics.
  18. Yup that mod basicially has all the vitenam planes, map and environment mods that you need for enhancing SF2V. It also has a ground war campaign aside from the default strategic bombing campaigns. BTW, when i run it in my low end laptop... i intentionally took away the environment mods (sky) because slows the game down significantly.
  19. The irony is that when maxed out, it is SF2E who taxes your system more than LOMAC. We are seeing two different design philosophies from the developers. SF2E caters to more systems. Even those with weaker gaphics card. That's because most of the load is in the CPU. LOMAC caters mostly to gaming PCs. Won't work on low end machines but will "wow" you if you have a decent graphics card. Nothing new here as well.
  20. All I care about is that SF2E works in my low end laptop while LOMAC does not. Useless talking about maximising graphics when it won't work on certain rigs in the first place.
  21. For planes with off-centered HUD like the bf109 and fw190, how can you hit your target when the crosshair is always outside the glass? BTW, did World War 2 planes have these reflective HUDs in the first place? Or are these game enhancements? The HUDs are quite helpful but I just can't cope when the plane has the HUD off-centered.
  22. I see. also works for planes with telescopic sights right?
  23. it depends on the maker of the mod. some of the mods have auto canopy while some assigns an animation key.
