ODS The Great Showdown version 1.0
jomni replied to Jarhead1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I can only select two squadrons and no weapons are available. How to fix? -
SF2 installation possibilities
jomni replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Take note that all other upcoming titles like Strike Fighters: Vietnam, SF: Europe, SF: Israel will make heavy use of that structure because it will all be one merged install. I believe TK will implement some theater constraints to aircraft depending on the selected map. But I haven't seen it in the .ini files so far (or I missed it). My current scheme is keep the SF2 family as stock with some modded airplanes. Use old generation SF games for full conversion mods. The games are not that expensive anyway so I can manage to buy all of them. -

jomni replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
the background chatter is actually what draws me to this mod. btw, when does the ground war start? Or is the campaign a pure air offensive? -

Played F-18 for a while and the carrier is there. -
How Low Do You Go?
jomni replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm playing the ODS campaign as an F-16 pilot doing strike missions and I don't see heavy SAM cover everyone is talking about. Or is it in the Single Missions? -

jomni replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Can anyone teach me how to drop bombs using the F-117? I lock on a ground target but the bombs don't drop when i press the button. What else should I do? (open hatches or something?) -
The Spectre is coming...
jomni replied to Dels's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Downloaded. It's a great add-on. But I can't hit anything. It was fun and frustrating at the same time. So I deleted. -

How do you manage your squadron?
jomni replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Playing at hard difficulty? Hard makes the Enemy smarter and your Friends dumber. I stay at normal to balance out. -

I call this shot: "MIGS IN SPACE" -
Yeah, G suite actually prevents black outs. but the pressure vest can give some sensation of G.

Medals in Campaign
jomni replied to {TNT}11bravo10's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Not directily in reply to the post but the amazing thing about Strike Fighters 2 is that all the medals of the past games are there. When I extracted the cat files, I saw US, European, and Israeli medals, etc. :D -
How do you manage your squadron?
jomni replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think 4 planes is just fine for me (when playing stock campaigns). But now I'm playing reds (Paran) with MiG-21's... I noticed that taking at least 8 planes on a mission increases survivability and probability of success. There will just be some freak missions that will take out a big chunk of your squadron though. Squadron management is harder when playing Mercenaries as the cost of arming them is quite huge and not worth the rewards for a successful mission. -
Don't forget about the force feedback vest. Only compatible with FPS so far but would be nice if a sim could support this to simulate High-G. They can then extend it to a full G-suit. Wouldn't it be nice to experience a real black out

Strating from GRAW... every game churned out with the Tom Clancy name became "Sci-Fi". BTW, I'm a fan of Ace Combat.

Lag Issues
jomni replied to Flegmatica's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Good luck in your tweaking. Just putting you into proper perspective that's all. -
"Their Finest Hour" and the sequel "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" are gems. Very good campaign model as well if you ask me.

Lag Issues
jomni replied to Flegmatica's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The beauty of Thirdwire sims: TK made the sim in a way that it can run on old computers and is quite future-proof. The fact that I can run this sim in my laptop with Intel internal graphics processor is a good feature. I'd rather he keep it this way than require the latest graphics cards like all the other games. In fact, I cannot play the old Enemy Engaged Comanche Hokum in my laptop despite exceeding the minimum specs. I need to load it up in my desktop with the dedicated grpahics card and the graphics are not as good as Thirdwire sims even when modded to version 1.11. The only thing he missed is Vista compatibility but that's being fixed now. SF2 is great. Just because you maxed out the graphics of GTA does not mean you can max out the graphics of all other games. And TK is more focused on coding the flight model algorithms correctly and researching on the planes for accuracy than optimizing graphics. And this is what most fans and simmers care about. And you must appreciate the fact that the game is made by a small company (one-man-show?). And you are getting more game time than what you've paid for. TW sims cost a fraction of GTA and it has stayed in so many harddrives of simmers for such a long time. -
Yankee Air Pirate 2 - Ready
jomni replied to swambast's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually all Thirdwire sims will run properly on Vista if you install it outside Program Files directory. You might need to edit terrain.ini files though. So the original WOV and YAP will run on Vista. BTW, Thirdwire's next release is Strike Fighters: Vietnam (Vista remake of WOV).
