  1. FMs for Nov 2008 version

I think that considering WW1 planes able to withstand any High G maneuvers, or being very solid, is a little exagerated. Nearly all starting aircraft of WW1 had structural problems. ALL sesquiplanes had. Nieuport 11 upper wing did break often. Nieuport 17 under wing was so fragile that diving was adviced to avoid. Fokker triplane, is among those planes that wing failures were catastrophic. Several german pilots died by its fault. Lothar von richtofen's big injuries in that famous accident, that stopped him from scoring kills during very much time, was due to fokker triplane wing failure. Fokker tripe was even forbidden to fly at a moment of the war, until all planes wings had been reinforced. But even after wing failures did continue. There, from wikipedia, was the reason argued: "Postwar research revealed that poor workmanship was not the only cause of the triplane's structural failures. In 1929, National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) investigations found that the upper wing carried a higher lift coefficient than the lower wing — at high speeds it could be 2.55 times as much" And that's logic, at that time mechanical enginering on forces and structure resistance/resilience/elasticity were not that developed compared to today, well, i even think no studies were made at all. When engineers needed to make a new aircraft, they builded a motor in a fuselage, of which they attached wings and tried to keep it as solid as possible, then tested it. The most fragile parts were reinforced, at posteriori, but basic theorical structural forces withstanded by planes were not known/done, IMO. As a fact, very much aircraft testers were killed/ highly injured in that era. In that RED BARON 3D game, when you were pulling the stick too much at too much speed, you began to hear the wood of the structure "crackle", which meant that more forces/acrobatic maneuvers would result in the break of a part. I think this was very realistic imo, i think it's exaclty what would happen in reality, to any wood constructed plane. (read: any plane less the fokker DVII)
  2. FE d3dx9_26.dll missing!

This, actually. Install latest direct X drivers.
  3. I was going to answer to that, but the very precise answer had been given yet in the topic i gave, so i will just quote myself: CHanging one of the values only will make the cockpit to appear 10 meters farther from the plane. You have to change one, then readapt the other.

  5. Ok, i've tried your file and, it does not seem to be overbloomy. You reduced nearly all the bloom settings, it seems that the last solution to reduce bloom shine is: [bLOOM] BloomPowerDay=1 BloomFadeTime=10 BloomConstantDay=1 BloomQuality=0 BloomScreenLevelDay=60 BloomCurveDay=2 BloomPowerNight=25 BloomConstantNight=5 BloomCurveNight=0 BloomScreenLevelNight=20 BloomAdaptationScreenLevel=80 BloomAdaptationMultiplier=100 BloomAllowOversaturation=0 Set the BloomAllowOversaturation value to 0, then try it and play with shift-F12 to see difference between stock and mod. The bloom effect should be very slight. Then report to me if it's still too much bright. Regards.
  6. Very much people only swear by Saitek. And even if Saitek joysticks are in the best, i think you can find good one at lower prices. The most important things to look for are: -a good ergonomy -an eye candy looking ;) (it's a buying argument for me ) -A SPINNING AXIS!! or rudder axis on it, a Z-rotation to control rudder if you don't have pedals. The third axis is the most important thingy imo as accurate shooting is much easier. I personnally use a Thrustmaster TOPGUN FOX 2 pro usb with the Thrustmapper joystick profiler and i'm quite happy: nice looking, the 3 control axis, enough buttons but not too much, not hand tiring, modifiable stick resist...and quite reliable as it resist all chokes and bad treatments it took for years.
  7. Ok, thanks. ATM i'm very busy but later on today i'll look your file to find a solution. Normally with bloompower at 1, horizon shouldn't be too shiny, but with widesky mod, the white pixels of clouds provocate the bloom to "over activate" what would make it too much bright. Anyway there is always a solution and as a fact i launched by error in my trials a version of widesky in which bloom was not sufficiently powerful lol, so don't worry .
  8. Hey guys, thanks for support. I have provided an alternative corrected file for those who use another environmental mod like widesky. Just redownload the file. ;)
  9. Survival of AI

I second you on that, quite right.
  10. I think any 3D file from any game is usable as soon as you can convert it to Wox 3D format (LOD) with the appropriate software. Much A-team aircraft original 3D files come from different other games and have been reworked to Wox.
  11. Thinking About Moving To England...

MMmmm.. but if you are spannish you understand very well sud american, and is your are sud american you undrstand quite well spannish, in spite of some light word differences. In europe, spannish is only spoken in Spain though, that's right.. But if i had to choose i don't even stop thinking: on one hand i have 300 days of Rain per year, on the other 300 days of sun. The only reason europe has an acceptable climate is the fact that england stops the wind and rain for us.
  12. Yea lol but PCI express and PCI have just nothing to see, two different things ;)
  13. I thought PCI graphic cards were not used anymore since Cristopher Columbus?
  14. I was suspecting a ghost settings file somewhere, but was nealry sure there were not. Now i know there is one. Good thing for you. Ps: Did you receive my mail?
  15. It happens to me sometimes, but either by reinitializing the joystick mapper, or by reasigning it in the otions menu of First eagles, always end by working. I also have WoE/WoI installed, all in the "thirdwire" directory. Normally, if the options menu shows the axes of your joystick, it should work, no?
  16. Let's talk about tactics

Yes it's right, because when too much plane are on another 6, there are much risk of collision, ironically what happened to him. I was just talking on a tactic level, but if the OP thinks the collision risk is not worthy, then to forget that comment. One last thing: --To disengage: Look and use the difference between you and your ennemy aircraft. If your in a lighter Ac (DR1) , climb; in a heavier (SPad) just dive; if your in an aircraft that is neither lighter nor faster (you in sopwith camel, your ennemy in fokker D7) just pray for god's mercy.
  17. Let's talk about tactics

Energy fighting is quite complex and, i think, not as much appropriate for WW1 game as for a WW2 game in which speed is higher and maneuvrability lower. I would say that aiming accuracy is way more important. But anyway here are some easy principles of energy fighting you could apply to this game: --If you have to turn, turn upward (semi looping). As much as you can, point to the sky in a turn fighitng. --Never, NEVER, stop or reduce the throttle else you are sure you'll make the last killing burst and there is no other threat. An exceeding speed is never exceeding in the sense you can turn it into altitude, mking you total energy higher. --If coming into opponent's six at very much speed, risking an overshoot, don't stop your throttle, you may prefer make a looping to convert your speed in altitude and keep at security level. AT the end of the looping you are gaining speed so aim at your ennemy and shoot a quick burst before redoing the maneuver and so on until ennemy dies, so your energy advantage keeps you totally safe during the whole fight. --If you are faster and higher than a normal speed opponent, and he makes a diving spiral, do not turn into him. You will be above corner speed and he will be at corner speed, thus outturning you and making you waste your energy advantage. Same to be applied to a higher and faster opponent in climbing turn. You to the contrary, can apply those tactics to "sucker" your ennemy into your level and outturn him, making him loose his energy advantage. There are much more thing to be said about energy fighting, but im not sure it's very useful for first eagles. But i give you some personal opinions: The Spad is just not the plane to be use in turning fights. If your are playing at high difficulty, an ennemy albatros would pwn you. --Just use the plane's avantage to your favor: level and dive speed. So when you are not in fight, try to gain altitude as much as possible. When spotting an opponent, dive into him without cutting throttle, try a quick burst and when arriving at overshoot level, continue the slight dive while poiting to a opposite direction of your ennemy. You will be at 300 km/h in other direction of the ennemy, so when hell be in postion you will be untouchable and to far away, actually no plane dives like a spad. When enough far regain altitude and retry. --With a lighter / more agile /more climbing aircraft, after the burst just enter in a loop or an hammerhead to regain altitude and safety as i said previously, instead of continuing the div, before renewing the attack. You can PM me for more details on energy fighting , even though i think it's not necessary for FE. Also fighting techniques i gave above are not aplyable to ealry (Fokker Eindecker/pfalz E1../ morane saulnir) aircraft. Also if this was not a game, i would say do not engage combat if you are not sure of winning by any advantage (altitude, speed, numbers or better aircraft) but it's just a game ;) I would say, to the contrary, to try focusing fire as much as possible , as opponents are killed faster this way. With equal level pilot/aircraft/numbers, focusing figher is the only way to win.
  18. control axis

From bortdafarm download notes: other notes; reversed rudder control on your system?;;; open the FokkerEIV_DATA.INI (right click/-open-/with notepad) edit this entry [Rudder] SystemType=CONTROL_SURFACE InputName=YAW_CONTROL ReverseInput=FALSE to [Rudder] SystemType=CONTROL_SURFACE InputName=YAW_CONTROL ReverseInput=TRUE Also, i guess it can be set for any aircraft in one of the ini files of the game, but don't know exactely which of them. So if no one answers more precisely before, just change that for the plane you are flying. (instead of fokkerEIV) and, don't you use a mapper or profiler for your joystick?
  19. I just love glossiness and reflections effects on white plane on Wings of europe, looks like the plane has been showed during two weeks. I would like to render some of my white FE planes more shiny, But when i change glossiness in the ini file and launches the games, the original glossiness setting comes back. What am i doing wrong? thx by advance.
  20. Ok Russouk much thanks, that ws actually the solution.
  21. Good thing, but isn't there another way to virtually add a lewis gun to a plane than by putting it as a pilot? Cause this make it not visible threw cockpit and maybe killable. I guess the plane graphic file needs to have it yet done, no? Thx by advance and good work.
  22. WIP Strutter

    That looks pretty good! :d
  23. Yes this is right that IL2 can run at full settings with no lag on an average PC (when i say no lag i mean 50 fps or higher), but this has nothing to see. WoX games are more beautiful at high settings, it's quite normal they eat a little more. Then there is a part of the work that needs to be done by you. Enhancing your PC(i mean cleaning and configuring it, not boosting it with new Grc card..), even more if you play on vista, is the biggest part. There is no compareason between after and before. The second part is to see what settings eat lots of memory while not being absolutely necessary, and what others make the game much more beautiful while not consuming a lot. I have done all this and i have a game running at 60 fps all the time, with sun and shadow settings, unless there are at least 20-25 aircraft in the visible skys, what would make it lower to 35-40 fps, and im pessimistic. IL2 is an old game that is not graphically the latest , that's normal to play it smoother. Lomac eats a little more nonetheless.
  24. First Eagles?

Is it worth buying? A difficult question that is at nearly 80% up to you: I think each FE buyer had been playing before at Red baron, wings of glory or flying corps gold. This because they were very intrested in WW1 planes and battles. So is it your case? Then ive seen you like TW type of games, in which you add what you want, and in whitch modder's work is sometimes as good or better than professionnals, while being free. Then i guess you will like FE, it's the same thing. Plus at that time they were not thousands of planes, so i think we have nearly 90% of total planes of the ERA between here at combat ace, and at th A-team site. We have also tons of other good things like ground objects, soldiers on the ground ... We have Peter01 that works much on planes handling at each new patch, what makes you have the same style of realistic (imo) handling of planes for all your modded or non modded aircraft. Just download the latest FMs. In other case modded airplanes would be unflyable at each new patch. Finally, i would say that if you hate the way AI cheats in IL2, then you will love FE, as at maximum difficulty settings AI is very tough but WITHOUT cheating, (well at least its my opinion), what makes a big difference with IL2 AI which is stupid and OMGly excellent at the same time. Flight model is generally easier than IL2, but IL2 is the most realistic flight model simulation of planes that i know. EDIT: When you shoot at AI in FE they make unpredictable movements and change of path, even more since Peter01 added great rudder use on AI. So i think your 3 second bursts will be much more difficult to achieve.
