I am always landing manually, usually under the glideslope I've had some bolters, slammed the Tomcat very hard once (without a crash). Now I am pretty confident. Keep trying

Make a decals folder.LOL, I didn't see it before in how-to by MigBuster. Many thanks Skipper!
-
No workaround needed because they work - you either have them in the wrong place - or you have the wrong path specified in the decals.ini file for the skin - Look at section 2 here:I'm confused because it's pure new installation and there's no decal.ini file, they can't be on wrong folder or another place, i didn't move them.
Here is what i got (no Decals folder):
-
VF are for the Navy planes (F-4B)Are you putting the bmp in the USAF Desert Camo 2 folder and not a folder in another folder.
Yeah, it works! But the decals wanished. Is there any work around? I'm really excited!
-
Yeah thats right - the other files are hidden away - put the skins in the F-4 folder so you end up with:Desert1
F-4D.ini
VFxxx
VFxxx
Can you not select the skin in the loadout screen?
make sure the skins files are not in another subfolder
I don't have any VFxxx folders there. I've copied and rename (F-4D_x.bmp > F-4D_67_x.bmp) files into F-4D_67 folder. I can choose USAF Desert Camo 2 in Roster menu resulting in textureless Phantom.

In the aircraft.ini, you need to add the TextureSet from the Skin at the bottom of it. Open the F-4D.ini and you'll see this:[TextureSet001]
Directory=Desert1
Name=USAF Desert Camo 1
Nation=USAF
Squadron=436TFS
Specular=0.400000
Glossiness=0.400000
Reflection=0.000000
Or something like this.
Then you copy the TextureSet that comes inside the Skin TextureSet.ini put under the other one don't forget to put the directory for the Skin and follow the numbers order.
I hope you can understand.
Thank you pablito, I've tried out your solution:
F-4D_67.INI (in F-4D_67 folder)
[AircraftData]
AircraftFullName=F-4D Phantom II (67)
AircraftShortName=F-4
AircraftDataFile=F-4D_67_data.ini
LoadoutFile=F-4D_67_loadout.ini
CockpitDataFile=F-4D_67_cockpit.ini
LoadoutImage=F-4D_loadout.tga
UserList=F-4D_67_UserList.ini
HangarScreen=F-4D_67_hangar.bmp
LoadingScreen=F-4D_Loading.bmp
AvionicsDLL=Avionics60.dll
AvionicsDataFilename=F-4D_67_avionics.ini
[LOD001]
Filename=F-4D_67.lod
Distance=100
[LOD002]
Filename=F-4D_67_lod2.lod
Distance=250
[LOD003]
Filename=F-4D_67_lod3.lod
Distance=500
[LOD004]
Filename=F-4D_lod4.lod
Distance=1000
[LOD005]
Filename=F-4D_lod5.lod
Distance=10000
[shadow]
CastShadow=TRUE
ShadowCastDist=10000
MaxVisibleDistance=800
[DamageTexture]
DamagedPostFix=_holes.tga
[TextureSet001]
Directory=Desert1
Name=USAF Desert Camo 1
Nation=USAF
Squadron=436TFS
Specular=0.400000
Glossiness=0.400000
Reflection=0.000000
[TextureSet002]
Directory=USAFCamo1
Name=USAF Desert Camo 2
Nation=USAF
Squadron=436TFS
Specular=0.400000
Glossiness=0.400000
Reflection=0.000000
TextureSet.ini (inside USAFCamo1 subfolder with 5 bmp skin files)
[TextureSet]
Name=USAF Desert Camo 2
Nation=USAF
Squadron=436TFS
Specular=0.400000
Glossiness=0.400000
Reflection=0.000000
Result is nice white Phantom without textures. Maybe it need change filename (LOD001-005) to bmp and add it into TextureSet.ini? I'm pretty sure i'm pain in your ass with my silly question but I appreciate your good will.

Have you gone into the actual F-4B and F-4D folder and placed the files in there? Each folder is set up with VF-something or other. Just put the files of one of those folders in and let it overwrite.There's nothing but few INIs.
Example:
F-4D folder contains just F-4D.INI and Desert1 folder TextureSet.ini
That's all, nothing more's here.

Hello everyone, I've just downloaded beautiful generic F-4 skins by Sundowner but I don't know how to install it on SF2 (on Win Vista). There's a readme and it says "Just drop into the F-4B and the F-4D and go fly!" which is nice but doesn't work. I've read tons of how-tos and nothing works fine. There's nothing to overwrite, nothing similar to files in Sundowner's skins. Please help me somebody.

I have troubles with Sparrows and Sidewinders in Burning Sands Campaign, especialy on Il-28 - Sparrow can't hit that sucker (are they using chaffs?), Sidewinder hit 'em into fuselage and it takes 3-4 to kill one Beagle. On the other hand, i did not experienced any problem using Sparrow on MiG-17/19/21 or Hunter F.4/6.
Wikipedia says: "Sparrows has reliability problems because of hot clima - kill probability of the AIM-7E was less than 10% in Vietnam War." I don't think it was ThirdWire's intention with Sparrows in SF2
-
Same problem here. Game crashes sometimes, when I'm switching between map and cockpit view near target area. Running on Vista with 4 GB RAM. Looking forward for patch fix.

Thanks for your info, i'll be waiting :whistle2:

Hi, i'm trying add an enhanced explosion pack into Strike Fighters 2 (running on Vista). There's some changes in folder structure between SF2 and rest of the ThirdWire sims. I don't have any experience with adding mods into ThirdWire sims. Any ideas how to add this amazing pack into SF2? I've read tons of faq and howtos and still can't run it. Any help will be appreciated.

Supr, zkusím alespoň ty exploze a počkám si na vývoj. Díky moc.
-

Same place, same mission and yet I was able to escape those SAMs.
Real problem is how to land the plane after the mission. One does
not simply choose vector for landing This bug needs to be
fixed ASAP.
