Airfields mod revizited
Bossco82 replied to PureBlue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Well i've put a fair few months into the south and north vietnam terrains. The only thing left is to work on the movement file as I moved vc bases in south vietnam to grass and paddy tiles. Also I went over the tfd and hfd files for both terrains. I spent ages flattening loads of target areas so objects sat correctly. I also need to adjust the Haiphong POL facilities, thats all thats left regarding the targets, this target still has trees coming through the oiltanks. If anyone wants to sample these terrains just get in touch. -

Hi Hurc, Your welcome to look at it mate, can you send me a pm with your email address as you will need my TFD and HFD and possibly types files to go with it. I'll compress it all in a .rar and send it over. -

FInally I made a sort of Mu Gia type supply camp but I can't upload it, its saying i'm over my quota! I've tweeked the south vietnam targets for these villages and fitted them around the GH3 trees, its took a TFD and HFD tweek for north and south. I've also tweeked all the North Vietnam targets for Stary's GH3 so there are no trees coming through buildings and added a few more objects along the way. For me personally my system couldn't cope with all the sams and aaa up north in vietnam so I reduced them. However I seperated the city areas from the aaa and sams so they are easily editable as they have there own target area. I also added the sam_site objects and found flat areas for them. Would anybody be interested in looking at these look at these? -

A sort of representation of Khe sanh i've been working on. Can't get it exact due to airfield plates available. Its an adaptaion of Piecemeals Blue_airfield2 for Vietnam. So credit goes to him for his objects placed on the airfield grey plates. Hope you don't mind me posting this Piecemeal. Its 1200 objects long! It does need a tfd. hfd. tweek though. -
View Framing
Bossco82 replied to SoDak1953's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You can tweak the viewlist.ini, you will need to extract it from the cat files first. Or, tweek the offset and view angles in the cockpit.ini files. All of this is a huge pain in the rear end though. Instead of relying on the F buttons to change the view, use a joystick HAT switch alongside them to look around. I used a joystick hat switch but now I have a Trackir, pricey but very much worth it. -
My SF2 won't start

Check your opions.ini is pointing to your custom location. I had a similar problem as my OS is installed on an SSD and all games in a high speed mechanical. -

Like he said above, whichever exe your using is out of date, you need to update it. -
Aug 2011 Update is out!
Bossco82 replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Its a strange one mate, although I havn't had a problem with an update for ages so I was overdue for one! I suspect that something might have gone wrong updating through the game itself. Here and on TW forums members who don't have this problem seem to have downloaded the update manually. -

Bossco82 replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I'm also using Photoshop 7.0, I also always keep an extra install labelled "Strike Fighter 2 Control" with in my merged install. The nationname decals were not working in that either. I'm wondering its something to do with me installing the update through the game? How did you install it Spinners? -
Aug 2011 Update is out!
Bossco82 replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
A quick fix for this problem, if you still have the July 2011 cats the copy all the nationname decals into the decal folder in you mods folder. They don't need to be organised into aircraft subfolders just paste them directly into the decal folder. I have the working decal files from my copy of the July 2011 cats. Am I allowed to post them in a compressed folder on here? -

Aug 2011 Update is out!
Bossco82 replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I have extracted the august 2011 cat files and cant open the nationname decals in photoshop etc, all other decals are fine. Strange! I kept my extracted files from the July 2011 cats, the nationname decals open in photoshop just fine. Something is wrong with the nationname decals for audust 2011. I noticed that aircraft that are showing the nationname have the relevant targa in their dedicated decal folder. -

Has anyone else noticed that USN and USMC aircraft no longer have the "NAVY" or "MARINES" decal on the side of the fuselage anymore since this update. -
How to illuminate the airfield terrain?

Am I getting any support in my Vietnam campaigns?
Bossco82 replied to toonces's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I had this problem too, however the one that bothered me most is the fps drop when all the sams and aaa were firing. What I did was I went through the Vietnamsea_targets.ini and reduced the aaa and sams till I got to a level I was happy with. I think the F-4J was fitted with an internal ecm, i'm sure the stock TW model is. I experimented with jammer strengths a while ago, Use deceptive jammer at a strength of 50-60, should be enough so they can lock onto you but they will probably miss you. However the odd one especially the later SA-2's still have a chance of hitting you. -
CH Products for SF2?
Bossco82 replied to famine's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Just get the Trackir4 or Trackir5 in standard format, the clip that fits on a hat works perfectly fine. Are even the worldwide couriers such as DHL or UPS risky in South Africa? Regarding the CH sticks, the only difference is the amount of hat switches and buttons. They are both equally accurate. -
CH Products for SF2?

Where are you in the world? Try RC Simulations in the UK, they are a very trustworthy dealer. It will be fine if they use a worldwide courier like UPS etc. -

CH Products for SF2?
Bossco82 replied to famine's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
My Mate has the CH fighter stick, throttle and peddles and i'm left riddled with envy. Very accurate easy to use and assign buttons its all done thorugh SF2. At the moment I use the cheaper Thrustmaster hotas with a Trackir 5, but if it was my money it would be a Logitech G940 or CH products kit i've used both and they are both great with SF2, accurate not too stiff and easy to use. Not much between them in my opinion. -

Track IR and SF2
Bossco82 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I'm thinking about picking up a TrackIR after seeing some youtube video's. Does it work ok with SF2? is there any special setup involved? Finally which is best to get Trackir4 or 5? Cheers -

Graphical Problem
Bossco82 replied to Mig_eater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Not really mate, unfortunately SF is quite resource hungry. Your only option from here is to build a more powerful desktop. With the 60hertz screen I have anything under 60fps causes a noticable stutter, especially noticable as I like to play Vietnam down in the weeds. Over the last 18 months i've managed to configure a desktop that can manage 60fps on unlimited settings using a modded install. However it was pricey and took a bit of trial and error. -
To be honest I can see the point for the renaming the dog, its not the 1940's anymore and things have changed. On the other hand i'm glad things like the Dambusters are being brought back into the mainstream public eye. I'm 29 and a lancaster pilot used to live on the road I grew up on, I grew up listening to his stories. I'm shocked at how many people under roughly 20 dont know what world war 2 was or dont understand its significance. A young lad I teach car mechanics too said not long ago he couldn't be bothered to vote, which led me to drill into him that millions of people gave a huge sacrifice so he had that right, maybe if films like these are remade it will educate them. I really hope they do this remake justice.
