  1. Hi Mate, Ok with that information its quite obvious that your gpu is getting totally overwhelmed in that environment. There are 2 options... Upgrade your GPU, in your position and if your not bothered about dx11. I would shop around on such as ebay for a used 216 core gtx 260 or a gtx 280. However if you would like to try a GTX 460 then Zotac, Gigabytes and MSI's overclocked GTX 460's have got very good reviews. SFP1ace on here has a GTX 460 and he gets good framerates. You might have to upgrade your PSU too. Whatever you buy get a decent branded psu don't skimp on that, 550w-600w will be more than adequate. As for your settings you are asking way too much from your hardware to run SF2 with all those addons. My rig is more powerful than yours and I can't run your settings in SF2V. I'm guessing your using the two unlimited options to get 1024mb cockpit/object textures. Try these settings in your options.ini [GraphicsOptions] DisplayDeviceID=0 DisplayWidth=1920 DisplayHeight=1080 DisplayDepth=32 AspectRatio=1.777778 AntiAliasing=4 UseAdvancedShaders=1 ForceDX9=FALSE ForceVSyncOff=FALSE LensFlare=2 DetailLevel=4 ObjectDetail=2 ObjectTexture=2 CockpitTexture=2 CockpitMirrors=0 CockpitReflection=0 EffectsDetail=2 TerrainDetail=2 TerrainTexture=2 HorizonDistance=1 GroundObjectDensity=2 WaterDetail=2 CloudsDetail=2 Shadow=1 If these settings don't work with you current gpu turn the highs down to medium. Then in your flight engine change the high settings to this [HighDetailOption] HorizonDistance=60000.0 DetailMeshSize=3 DetailLevel=2 WaterEffect=2 NoiseTexture=1 MaxTextureRes=1024 I have been doing a lot of gpu logging with SF2V. With all the addons and unlimited setting the game wanted over 1024mb of vram. With the settings i've posted it wants 903mb in the most demanding scenario, Gpu load on my GTX 280 doesn't pass 72%. While tweaking your settings carry on logging your GPU load and vram usage. You will see the difference in the impact high/unlimited setting has on your GPU. Hope this helps, get back to me if you need any more advise
  2. HI Mate, As for a GPU, I need to know what your power supply is. I recently bought a GTX 280 nvidia card off ebay for £100gbp which is a good price for that card and it allows me to run high settings in SF2V. If you look on ebay there are many of nvidia's high end GTX 200 range card selling for a fraction of what they were new. Before that I had a 192 core GTX 260, that card could run a mix of high, medium and low settings. Before that I tried a GTS 250 1024mb that could use a mixture of medium and low settings, mostly medium. Also can you confirm that this problem is only in the stock F-15 cockpit and only in the desert terrain? Also you have overclocked your Q6600, when I was overclocking my E8500 I first used fsb 425mhz with a 9.5 multiplier. However when I bumped up nbv and fsb termv one notch and used 450mhz fsb and a 9 multiplier. It seriously improved framerates. What motherboard are you using? Before you go out a buy a new gpu. Download GPUZ. You can run it in the background while your playing SF2. Set it to "run in background" and "log to file". It will create a log in notepad that will be saved somewhere like "my documents". Do this and check if your graphics card is being maxed out before buying a new card. You can also download Rivatuner, with this you can also log cpu usage, again just leave it running in the background, fly a mission then leave SF2, pause Rivatuner and look back at the usage it will be in a long graph. That covers hardware for now, I dont have the desert terrain. Is this terrain modified? If it is did it come with different levels of TOD files. I ask because in the North Vietnam terrain I found the city TOD files to be framerate killers. The trees did very little. To get round my framrate loss over cities I used low TOD files for city tiles and high TOD files for jungle tiles. I've spent a lot of time, trying to get my install of SF2V running perfect on high settings, i've had to customise my install in places, tweek my overclock, and i've tried 4 different graphics cards. I can now play SF2V on high settings using 1024 textures, in the linebacker 2 campaign over Hanoi with 12 B-52's dropping bombs nearby, (a very demanding scenario) with a constant framerate of 60fps, so I might be able to help out on this one. However i'll need some info. Grpahics settings your using now, Driver settings for your graphics card Are you using DX9 or DX10 Your Flight engine, How much is your GPU being used ie GPUZ log How much your CPU and memory is being used ie Rivatuner log Your overclock settings, What level of detail TOD files are being used in the terrain folder, or look for the TOD files that iare associated with the city tiles and tell me their size in kb. Hopefully with this information we can help you out.
  3. Are you still having this problem mate? Which title is this in? Is this model of F-15 an add on? Can you confirm that you have tried all settings on low? How old is your graphics card?
  4. Hi Mate, I've been doing a lot of looking into how to run SF2V on unlimited settings, ie what hardware is required. If you download GPUZ and Rivatuner you can use them to log the resources the game is using. When you have logged them look for a spike in the usage, that will be your fps drop. To run my copy of SF2V which has the expansion pack and all the eye candy I see upto 3.6ghz used on both cores of my E8500 running 4ghz and upto 902mb of vram used on my GTX 280. This is what it requires to run high settings with a maximum of 1024mb textures, detail mesh 4, normal horizon but no shadows and no cockpit mirrors or reflection. The other thing you can do is dial back each graphics setting and find which one is causing your fps hit. Finally what motherboard do you have. I found a massive difference running an fsb of 450mhz. Let me know how you get on. However there are people on here who know a lot more than me, they should be along shortly
  5. Hi, I'm considering upgrading to an i5 system, I just wanted to know if anyone on here has an icore system could they give me some feebback on how SF2 runs. Cheers
  6. My watercooling setup cost me about £120.00 gbp. However mine is heavily overspeced. I could add my motherboard and graphics card into my loop and it would be fine. At the moment its only cooling my cpu and at 1.39375 vcore I hit 49 degrees under 100% load in OCCT. When I was trying to hit 4.25ghz at 1.45v it still only reached 49 degrees under load. If your thinking of going watercooled, you could get something like the Corsair H50 or H70 to start in the UK they are about £70-90 gbp. While I was looking into watercooling there seemed to be some good internet stores based in Germany. I only recently added a 240 radiator into my loop before that I only had a single 120 rad. With that setup my E8500 hit mid 50's when stress testing. The thing I like about watercooling is you can turn your fans right down, my 902 is really quiet now. As far as leaks are concerned, just use compression fittings they are far more reliable. If you want to build your own I like EK and XSPC products, start off with a single radiator, the thicker the better and a pump that flows at least 300lph or more, also use tubing thats at least 10mm outer diameter. I can email you a picture of my setup if it helps.
  7. To be honest with you SFP1ace i've had a pc since I was 18. However i just went into shops and asked for a gaming pc, didn't have a clue. It was the beginning of the year i decided to look into it and build my own. The only component I kept was my E8500 C0, at first I added a Asus P5Q SE2, a GTX 260 192 and 4GB of Transcend PC2-6400 powered by a quad 12v 750w psu. I discovered overclocking around August and found my P5Q SE2 and ram not upto the job. This was quickly replaced with my P5Q Deluxe and 4GB of Geil PC2-8500 ram. I came across my Zotac GTX 280 by chance on ebay 2nd hand the price was too good to miss. I'm glad I upgraded though my GTX 260 was fine on medium setting but the GTX 280 handles high setting without a problem. As I use to be a plumber installing watercooling was easy, its in a Antec 902 case, 1 XSPC RX120 rad on the back and 1 XSPC RS240 mounted where the drive bays use to be. I'm also using a XSPC 450lph reservoir/pump combo and an EK Supreme LT with 10mm OD tubing and Feser One fluid. Watercooling let me take my E8500 upto 4ghz and 49 degrees on OCCT. Since fitting it if your into overclocking its the only way to go. SF2 runs great at these setting but I must admit i'm tempted by an i5 or even an i7 system at a push. However with the information you've given me I might keep on the look out for a Q9650 at the right price and maybe even another GTX 280 and see what SLi is all about.
  8. Yes quite temted by that mate, I picked up my current GTX 280 for £100 gbp on ebay and sold my GTX 260 for £80.00 gbp. I noticed a definate improvement in SF2 from upgrading. I'd be on ebay now looking for another Zotac GTX 280 if SF2 could use SLi. I'm also quite tempted to find an E8600 or Q9650 now. I did try to overclock my E8500 C0 over 4ghz tonight I could get windows 7 to boot up easily but it wasn't stable in OCCT. Thanks again for the advise SPF1ace, I only really got into computers about a year ago and i'm still learning. I'm more of a car man, building track and rally cars is my expertise.
  9. SFP1ace, that is awesome, whoever cracked that should get a medal. Thanks for that eye opener I had no idea.
  10. One more question SPF1ace, how are you running two GTX 460's in SLI on a P5Q Deluxe?
  11. All good points mate, I try to keep my voltages under 1.4v but I might try for 4.25ghz as my maximum temps watercooled are 49 degrees when stressed with OCCT. I totally agree with you about running stressing programs for too long to check for stability killing cpu's. I usually go for a couple of hours in OCCT and if after running it with games, photoshop etc I get no crashes then its stable in my opinion. So far i', really happy with how SF2 runs i'd just like it to be able to handle the little extra things like cockpit mirrors and a slightly higher detail mesh. Out of curiosity SPF1ace what settings can you run using your oc'd Q9650 and is that oc using your P5Q Deluxe board?
  12. Thanks for the reply SPF1 ace, what you say is really good advise. To be honest I was thinking similar as I do love my P5Q Deluxe board and my Zotac GTX 280 its a great card. The problem I have is pushing my E8500 any further as its unfortunately a C0, it already needs 1.39375 vcore to acheive 4ghz. I have been browsing ebay for a E8600 or even a Q9650 to overclock to over 4ghz instead of buying an icore system. I probably wouldn't consider upgrading for a while if my cpu was E0 stepping. To hgbn. I found overclocking had a massive effect on how SF2 ran, although i found cpu speed important but it didn't have as much effect as fsb speed. I had 4ghz from 425fsb 9.5 multi dram 851mhz and I still had a drop in framrates. Running 450 fsb 9 multi dram 901mhz gave me almost no drop in framrates. I found increasing fsb from 425 too 450 had a greater effect than increasing cpu speed from 3.6ghz too 4ghz. I dont know whether on your setup your able to lower the multi and increase fsb on your E6600 but if you can it might improve framrates. I also found I had the most fps drop in campaign especially in SF2V. I found that setting maxsecondarystrikes=1 and reducing the LOD visibility distances on bombs to LOD1=100, LOD2=200, LOD3=400 improved campaign perfomance a lot, even when there is a B-52 strike I only get the slightest of stutter. This is however with vsync enabled at 1920-1080 dpi, I get a solid 59fps. Thanks again for the replies
  13. Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm currently running a watercooled E8500 at 4ghz with a P5Q deluxe at 450 fsb and a Zotac GTX 280. It runs well on high settings but thats at detail mesh 4 and with secondry stikes limited in campaigns. I get a solid 60fps using dx10. However cockpit mirrors cause a big fps drop. The new intel hardware and nvidia's 400 series graphics cards really tempt me. I'm considering an i5 760/Asus P7P55D-E system aswell as Zotacs pre overclocked GTX 460. It'll be closer to xmas if I invest in it. I just wanted to check how an older game engine ran on it first. Thanks again
  14. SF2 Crash

How are you getting on with the GTX 460, any compatability problems with SF2?
  15. Hi guys, I mainly play SF2V with the gold expansion pack using advanced shaders. In campaign if I am over highly populated areas like Hanoi etc my fps would drop to a stutter. I managed to get round this by deleting some target areas and reducing the AAA. I also changed the maxsecondarystrikevalue=2 to =0 to reduce the amount of ai aircraft in one area. I use the low quality .TOD files in my terrain aswell as only using the flak and afterburner effects from the Gold expansion Pack I also tweaked the flight engine [GraphicsSettings] ZBufferDepth=24 MaxVertexCount=32768 MaxIndexCount=32768 MaxTextureCount=8192 MaxModelType=4096 MaxMeshPerScene=4096 MaxModelPerScene=4096 MaxLightPerScene=512 AspectRatio=1.6 MinPixelSize=1.0 [FarSceneClip] FarClipDistance=80000.0 NearClipDistance=3000.0 [NormalSceneClip] FarClipDistance=25000.0 NearClipDistance=249.9 [NearSceneClip] FarClipDistance=250.0 NearClipDistance=1.2 [LowDetailOption] HorizonDistance=45000.0 DetailMeshSize=3 DetailLevel=0 WaterEffect=0 NoiseTexture=0 MaxTextureRes=128 [MedDetailOption] HorizonDistance=50000.0 DetailMeshSize=4 DetailLevel=1 WaterEffect=1 NoiseTexture=0 MaxTextureRes=256 [HighDetailOption] HorizonDistance=60000.0 DetailMeshSize=5 DetailLevel=2 WaterEffect=2 NoiseTexture=1 MaxTextureRes=1024 And I use the following settings Object Detail=high Object texture=high Cockpit texture =high Mirrors=Off Reflection=Off Shadows=Low Effects=Low Terrain Detail=Medium Terrain Texture=Medium Horizon=Normal Ground Objects=Medium Water Detail=Low 1920x1080res native to my monitor My system specs are Windows 7 64 4Gb PC2-8500 ram E8500 @ 3.6 750w PSU Asus P5Q SE2 motherboard Inno3D GTX 260 192core. 190.38 drivers I was thinking of replacing my mobo with a SLi capable motherboard and another GTX 260 to improve my performance in SF2V, however I would need a new case to do this. I had the chance to buy a GTX 260 and P5N sli mobo at a good price but someone beat me to it. So now i'm thinking of upgrading my GTX 260 to a GTX 460 or even 470 but i'm worried my E8500 would bottleneck it. Believe it or not i'm not a big computer game fan but I love the SF2 series so thats all I use my computer for gamewise. Looking at my system and the settings I use in game what would be better GTX 260's in SLi or a single GTX 460/470? What performance increase would either give me? Any advise appreciated
  16. Thanks for the reply Fubar, I did suspect that Sli was a no go with SF2. I have oc'd my E8500 now I have matched my memory. I use to have 2 sticks os PC2-8500 and 2 sticks of PC2-6400. I now have 4 sticks of PC2-8500 and can run 2.1v on them. I have a stable 3.6 but i'm going to try to get 3.8. Do you think that upgrading to a GTX 460 or 470 would mean I could run higher setting or add more effects/objects in SF2. Or should I shop for a 2nd hand GTX 280. I'm worried that with SF2 only using one core of my E8500 I wouldn't see a benifit from upgrading my GPU, although I do use DX10 now. Keep the GTX 260, buy a GTX 280 or a newer GTX 4** series card. What would you recommend. I have a bit of spare cash to treat myself and in this situation it either goes on my car or a computer upgrade, my evo is finally how I want it so its spare to go on my computer. I just dont know as much about computers as I know about cars so any advise is appreciated. Cheers
  17. Hi, I already have the following computer specs, E8500 oc at 3.6 Asus PSQ SE2 Kingston PC2-8500 4GB Inno3D GTX 260 192cores 896mb Win 7 64 bit What i'd like to know is will SF2 using DX10 benifit from running two GTX260's in SLi. A friend is selling an Asus P5N-D motherboard and another Inno3D GTX260 at a decent price and I was thinking of upgrading. At the moment I mainly play SF2V with the gold expansion pack, it runs well but I still get a fps drop in campaigns over areas with lots of ground objects even though my settings are medium to low. Would running 2 GTX260's in SLi improve this. Cheers.
  18. Thanks for the replies, unfortunately someone else beat me to the mobo and gtx 260 my friend was selling, a shame but i've probably avoided an Sli setup headache! Thanks again
  19. Hi Guys I've got SF2E and NF4 and they work fine since some effect.ini adjustments to use DX10. However i'm trying to add a carrier based tomcat squadron to the sea area of the Germany map to use in Red Storm in NF4. No matter what i've tried when I go into campaign the unit appears on the map where it should but i'm based at Spangdahlem Airbase. I've added this to the Terrain Target.ini [TargetArea338] Name=Alpha Station Position=300807.00,800541.00 Radius=5657 ActiveYear=0 Location=10 Alignment=FRIENDLY CarrierStation=TRUE I've added this to the campaigne4_DATA.ini ///USN Units-------------------------------------------------------------------------- [AirUnit128] AircraftType=F-14A Squadron=VF84 ForceID=1 Nation=USN DefaultTexture=VF84 StartNumber=0 BaseArea=Alpha Station CarrierBased=TRUE CarrierNumber=68 BaseMoveChance=0 RandomChance=100 MaxAircraft=16 StartAircraft=16 MaxPilots=16 StartPilots=16 Experience=100 Morale=100 Supply=100 MissionChance[sWEEP]=80 MissionChance[CAP]=70 MissionChance[iNTERCEPT]=90 MissionChance[ESCORT]=60 MissionChance=0 MissionChance[CAS]=0 MissionChance[sEAD]=0 MissionChance[ARMED_RECON]=0 MissionChance[ANTI_SHIP]=0 MissionChance[RECON]=0 UpgradeType=NEVER //----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [CarrierUnit001] CarrierType=CVN68 CarrierNumber=68 UnitName=CVN68 USS Nimitz ForceID=1 Nation=USN BaseArea=Alpha Station NumSquadron=10 BaseSize=LARGE Experience=100 Morale=100 Supply=100 My F-14A is listed as carrierbased=TRUE, i've also added USN to the Nations.ini. What have I missed that means I still end up on an airfield when in campaign on the Germany map? Many Thanks, Ross
  20. Thanks for the replies, Yeah i've added those lines to the campaign.ini. I have tried it with the carriers set to medium, i'll try them on small. I have read through the knowledge base several times now double checking it its like SPF2E just wont use carriers. Cheers from ross
  21. HI Guys, I Hope someone can help me with this. When playing WOV2 I usually take off, form up but then skip to the next action scene. I have a problem with WOV2 gold that I gign't have with WOV1 gold. When I arrive in the target area 50% of the time the flight i'm escorting arn't there, when I ask for vector to primary target it tells me the strike aircraft are over 50 miles away. Its not an aircraft based problem as it happens with all strike aircraft from A-1's to F-105's. It doesn't happen on every mission but happens on half of them. It still happens if I take off, find the flight I have to escort first then skip, I still arrive way ahead of them. Any ideas? Cheers from Ross
  22. Yeah it probably is something to do with the time skip, I did a few missions looking at the map first, it happened more when the airbases for escort and strike aircraft were at different distances from the target area. Migbuster, does you WOV2 do x16 speed normally, mine only goes upto 8x?
  23. Hi Guys, I found the simple line for the rwr vector quite awkward to see. I made this one, don't know whether it historically accurate. Its similar to the one seen in the A6 in Flight of the Intruder. I've got it set up to glow when searched, flash slow when tracked and flash fast when a sam is launched. Let me know if your interested
  24. I forgot to mention. If you look at the vector rwr targa's they are three different lengths on the same size transparancy. When I made all three the same full size length. The search vector grows in size from the centre of the display in reaction to the radars range/strength. I have no idea how it does this. I'll try to get a screenshot and do a set of thinner ones.
  25. I'll have a go at making a thinner one. I made this specifically for the vietnam version of the game. I found the line awkward to see. Does anyone have anymore info on what the vietnam era rwr's looked like illuminated?
