I went to the Flying Legends Display at Duxford on Saturday & thoroughly enjoyed the air display there. Included this year was a mock combat between a Fokker Dr1 & a Nieuport 17 BOTH with proper Rotary engines. all went well that day, however - on the Sunday (which i didnt go to) as the Fokker Dr I was coming in to land after its display, it was seen to bounce high then land on its wing which caused it to pitch up onto its nose. fortunately the pilot was unhurt. The first pics are of the aircraft in the hangar on the Saturday after the air show, the last is the crash on the Sunday (See pics below..). i dont know the extent of the damage to the machine, but as you can see from the photos enclosed, it was a real work of art After that, there was a slight mid-air collision where the AH1 Skyraider was seen to hit a p51 mustang, although the skyraider landed safely ( albeit with a few feet of starboard wing missing) the p51 wasnt so lucky, The pilot managed to bale out & the aircraft crashed into a field next to duxford aerodrome. again fortunately both pilots were ok...

Or you could get some iron-on transfer paper for your printer & make your own!!

That film sounds really good, We had the FW190 replica at the flying legends air show duxford in 2007, I think it had a Russian copy of the BMW engine It looked & sounded great in the air, The Duxford museum also has a restored original BMW engine, it looks pristine as you can see below, but I dont know if its an airworthy one

I managed to get my hands on a 1972 edition of "Knight of Germany" by Professor Johannes Werner - the autobiography of Oswald Boelcke as translated into English by Claud W Sykes. as well as a 1968 illustrated copy of "No Parachute" by Arthur Gould Lee, I'm working my way through seven volumes of the "Cross & Cockade" journals which I got for a tenner each - marvellous!! such information & detail, i'm still missing volumes 1, 9 & 11. plus all the stuff from the 90's & noughties but, Hey its a start!!

Beautiful detail on that burning Hurricane, as well as the overall details superb - I'll have to get it!

Hi Guys, I thought I would share some pics of the shuttleworth pageant taken on Sunday, Alas, the Se5a didnt fly but the other 3 did All in all not a bad airshow at all, unfortunately, due to the high winds they were unable to fly the old 1909 bleriot, or the 1912 Blackburn etc., but there's always next year All the best... I know what you mean Dej, you can have too much of a good thing, & i hate having my food messed about with too much - If it was meant to be a piece of art, then hang it in the blo**dy tate gallery!! Give me an egg & Bacon sarnie on toasted white bread (NO butter or marg) with lashings of tommy K - Delicious!!! As they say... It's the simple pleasures that are the best! TonyO.

sorry to hear that you're hor de combat Capt Sopwith, Its a real nuisance when you break your wrist like that, I remember when i broke my scaphoid bone in my wrist when i came off my bike ( that was in the eighties) - it took 6 weeks to heal Get well soon sir! TonyO.

Thanks Olham, but i must confess that Its actually the first time that ive been to a shuttleworth airshow!! but i was pleasantly surprised at how sedate & leisurely the whole thing was - no pushing, shoving or being packed in like sardines at Duxford flying legends!! The one big shame was that there wasn't any Fokker triplanes or German machines - apart from the newly restored fiesler storch - man that machine can fly slow - it looked like it was hovering in mid-air. on a good note, shuttleworth are getting an exact replica of a Sopwith camel in the coming year - rock on!!

I say old boy, i never did like crumpets, bit of a jam doughnut man myself... I did try to make some of them once, but talk about heavy - they gave my cooker bow legs!!! TonyO.

you have excellent taste appraiserfl, the artwork is superb, although definitely out of my price range! I went to duxford flying legends this year, & got a few pictures - nothing special, but not bad theyre dotted all around my living room. I'l take a pic of them, & post it later, Maybe this would be a good idea for a new topic - whats on your walls?

I have the complete series Wings DVD, and as many have said, it is a drama series showing the RFC and home life of the "families involved" The parts based on the flying and life in France are very good, they've also captured the period of the Fokker scourge very well, the first series is 12 episodes & the second is 13 episodes equating to about 20.5 hours of viewing !!! All in all, I think its well worth getting. Regards TonyO

I remember the factory that your speaking of quite well, I used to repair a computer system in there once upon a time, & to think that the factories been knocked down to make a housing estate makes my heart bleed, - so called progress i suppose??? TonyO.

If I could go back in time, it wouldn't be to the horrors of war, Lets face it, there's a vast difference between a flight sim & real combat however good OFF BhaH / HiTR are, how many people honestly think that they'd survive flying over the trenches in real life? It wouldn't be skill, it would be down to pure luck, Mechanical failure, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Archie etc.. etc... the odds are stacked up & not in your favour!! I would prefer to go back to the earlier 1900's when man started to fly, where there weren't any no-fly zones or ATC, where I could build my own flying machines & try them out without anyone saying no, to be able to go to the big air meetings in France & the UK & see the famous names like Santos Dumont, & Henry Farman, Samuel Cody etc.. To witness bleriot crossing the channel. This is time period where I'd like to go.
