AHH the happy memories, I've gotten rid of my old amiga many many years ago, I've still got it on the Gameboy but never touch it these days. I started of with the good old shoebox the commodore C64, then moved on to the Amiga then PC. My first PC was a 486 DX 33 with a 100 meg hard drive - WOW - well it was big back in those days Happy times - I still have kept my original wolfenstein & doom disks though

  8. Poll: WinXP vs Win7

I bought my system earlier this year, (instead of building my own as it came out cheaper,) and although it was to be bundled with Vista, The shop gave me the option to have XP installed instead - I chose the XP version for several reasons: vista has showed it was a very hit & miss affair to get old software working with it, I have a lot of peripherals hanging off my system which there arent any vista drivers available - why should I have to waste money buying all new kit just to be able to get the drivers to work with vista when the old kit works fine on XP?? & to be honest, working with vista on other peoples rigs was a total pain in the a$$!! im no longer in the computer build/ network installation game anymore, but i do keep my ear to the ground, & there are plenty of professionals around who, like me wouldnt touch Vista with a bargepole!! Theres a great many small computer repair shops in london who offer to remove Vista & re-install XP which also shows how unreliable Vista is. Xp has worked fine for me & as many have said -"if it aint broke - dont fix it!"

  12. Ace vs. Ace

Theres an excellent Book which I've just started reading called Who Downed the Aces in WW1? by Norman Franks. One notable air combat is the one in which Oberleutnant Stefan Kirmaier who took over the command of Jasta 2 after boelckes demise was shot down by capt John Oliver Andrews flying a DH2 of 42 sdn. It was the day after this, that 24 sdn lost their leader Lanoe Hawker to MvR. (his 11th victory)
  13. BEEEEAAAAUUUTTTTIFFFUUUULLLLLLLL! Just tell me where & when to send the cash TonyO.
  14. Heres a Few That I've either read that i think are really top rate; or that Ive just bought & cant wait to read Sagittarius rising by Cecil Lewis ISBN 0 7515 0931 0 First Blitz by Neil Hanson ISBN 978-0-552-15548-9 A Brief History of the Royal Flying Corps by Ralph Barker ISBN 1-84119-470-0 September Evening the life of Werner Voss by Barry Diggens ISBN 1-904010-47-4 Flying Fury - Five years in the Royal flying Corps by James McCudden VC ISBN 0905-778-58-8 Aces Falling by Peter Hart ISBN 978-0-7538-2407-8 Bloody April By Peter Hart ISBN 0-3043-6719-2 Fighting the Flying Circus By Edward Rickenbacker from the lakeside press Aces Twilight By Robert Jackson ISBN 0-7474-0121-7 & some books just out, or ones that i have aquired & that i have & not read yet, but first impressions seem very good Osprey Publishing - Aviation Elite Units No 56 Sdn RAF/RFC by Alex Revell ISBN 978-1-84603-428-2 Osprey Aircraft of the Aces no 88, Pusher Aces of World War 1 by Jon Guttman ISBN 978-1-84603-417-6 Captain Albert Ball by RH Kiernan from the Aviation Book Club - printed 1939 Jasta Boelcke by Norman Franks ISBN 1-904010-76-8 The Red Barons last Flight by Norman franks & Alan Bennett ISBN 1-904943-33-0 Although they arent all autobiographies of individual pilots/Airmen, they really do describe the times & situations really well.
  15. Exactly!! Lower wings shredded to matchwood broken prop blade lands in a tree etc.. etc..- Spot on old boy!
  16. I agree with Flyboy PC, More ground movement, with regards to the ground action of the war, men going over the top, getting cut down by artillery & machine gun fire, taking cover in shell holes attack - counterattack etc... the films all quiet on the western front & the blue max keep springing to mind! Ive played flight sims for many years inc. red baron, knights of the sky - wings (on amiga) etc.etc.etc. I must say that im more than happy with the aircraft in OFF P3 BHaH the only things I would want to see is the moving rockers on the engines, moving M.G. bolts & gun jams. The only main pet niggle of mine is not being able to witness (experience) my aircraft going down after being shot out of the sky fighting with the controls trying to save it. On P4 please - Please - please no more "Red Mist" let us experience the crash!!! theres plenty of autobiographies in which the pilots who survived mentioned how they crashlanded either in the front line or no-mans land & got back to fight another day.
  17. The Hard Stuff

As I've got older, my tastes have matured - I dont mind roughing it with the occasional bottle of Bud, or Koppaberg swedish pear cider, but my REAL tastes lie with Remy Martin Coeur de cognac - its by far the best tasting cognac I've ever had. - The next best for me would be for a single malt scotch such as Oban or glenmorangie Also a good Gin & tonic doesnt go a miss from time to time!!!
  18. It's Time To Play,"What's My Plane" !

Red-dog pipped me to the post on that one! - i must type faster!!!
  19. It's Time To Play,"What's My Plane" !

I'll give number 12 a go, but im probably wrong! :blush2: I think its a Gotha G.V, due to the way the engines are supported in between the wings on the photo, plus, the oval shape of the engine cowlings suggest that theyre 260 HP Mercedes DVIa liquid cooled inline engines. the undercarriage is also of note, as the gothas were notoriously tail heavy & had to carry bombs under the nose to bring the centre of gravity forward they were very difficult to land especially if they had plenty of fuel onboard if a mission was aborted many crashed on landing due to the weakness of the undercarriage. also of note is the 7.92mm parabellum which you can see the gunner aiming downwards. there was no fabric covering underneath the fuselage which gave the gunner a good view of the blind spot below & underneath the aircraft. there was usually a second 7.92mm parabellum mounted in the nose. the lozenge canuflage was used later in the war on these bombers at the atart of the bombing offensive against london, they were usually painted a pale blue colour. TonyO.
  20. Planes

Totally agree with you there old chap!
  21. Current Status - Super Patch

EXCELLENT NEWS!!! If only other game devs would take a leaf out of your books :fans: P.s. Dont you guys EVER take a rest???
  22. Books, books, books

I've just finished Aces falling & Bloody April - both by peter Hart Very well researched, especially with the experiences of pilots & observers of the RFC. towards the end of the books you find out if the peoples experiences youve been reading about survived the war, or if they were killed in action. also can recommend First Blitz, by Neil Hanson which describes the first bombing campaign of london by the germans in the first world war. interestingly enough quite a few bombs fell where I work which i didnt know, September evening - life & final combat of Werner Voss by Barry Diggens is also good, BOOKS STILL TO READ... I've got the following still to read & i'll let you know my verdicts afterwards.... Flying Fury - five years in the royal flying corps by James McCudden, VC Captain Albert Ball, by R.H.Kiernan Jasta Boelcke, by Norman franks Fighting the flying circus by eddie rickenbacker TonyO
  23. Reason for screen name....

My Name Legion comes from the amount of times that I get killed in games yet still pop up for more My name is one, but i am many..... I'm not just a die-hard fan of flight sims but also of games like speedball - CoD 1,2,4 Medal of honour etc... & i was in the first 200 people to get Wolfenstein 3d & Doom from Id software in the UK when they first came out! so my gaming history is a bit long in the tooth now I can certainly give people a run for their money in those games, but flight sims are my weakness, but then again, what losses can I expect when i like to fly the old Be2 in OFF BHAH!
  24. waited since 1983

Welcome Jimgad, Its nice to have you joining us, being an avid flight sim fan which started with my first computer - a commodore 64, then Amiga 500/1000 then a 486 dx25 pc complete with a hard drive of 100 Mb ( classed as a file server in those long lost days !!!) I remember with a warm fondness the Red baron / red baron 3d / Wings & dawn patrol classics. To be able to jump into the cockpit of such a range of flying machines that are available with OFF BHAH is a joy second to none, & with all the patches & support that you get with Winder, Polovski, Ovs & all the gang i can honestly say that theres not another flight sim that comes anywhere the quality of this one. The mainstream software companies could learn a thing or two from these guys!! Welcome to the gang - Clear skies & happy landings. TonyO.
  25. Henry Allingham

Henry Allingham, the oldest surviving serviceman from the First World War & oldest man in the world, has died at the age of 113, his care home has said. Mr Allingham served with the Royal Naval Air Service during the Great War, later transferring to the Royal Air Force and serving at Ypres & was also the last survivor of the battle of Jutland. He died peacefully in his sleep. A True hero in every sense of the word.... may he rest in peace.
