  1. Thanks for the update! I don't necessarily see it as random, since I was limiting it to three possible character classes: Killer, Coward, or Heavy Drinker, since to me, these logically extend from having one of your friends killed. And, without getting too philosophical about it, how much choice do people have in the type of personality they have, or what kind of character traits they may display under certain conditions. Maybe the death of a friend in war brings out a dormant character trait that you didn't even know existed? Finally, I wasn't thinking of this as a permanent change--just a temporary one as your pilot adjusts to the loss of a close personal friend. Still, whatever you decide is okay with me, Lothar. OFFice is a fantastic addition to the OFF universe. With luck, maybe it can be included in P5 or P6?
  2. Rear Gunner Questions

Hi Lima. I'm finally making progress on my Ultimate DM update and hope to have a version with an optional Rear Gunners mod ready by the end of the weekend. I've revised the engine HP settings upward a bit for several aircraft and eliminated fires from a punctured fuel tank. This seems to have substantially reduced both the "flying, flaming coffins" problem as well as the brief fire that goes out problem. I also adjusted the fuel tank HP settings so that some planes like the Albatros do not get leaks quite as quickly or easily. Other planes will be somewhat more likely to catch fire than before, as well. Finally, a few tweaks to various aircraft wing settings. I hope everyone who tries it will like it!
  3. Hey, Lothar-- Any chance you might be able to implement this in OFFbase? After any mission in which any pilot whose Outlook/Attitude towards you is "Friend" is announced as captured or KIA, your pilot loses -5 points and rolls a die. If you roll a "1", roll another die to see if your pilot changes from his original class into one of the following: 1: Coward 2: Killer 3: Heavy Drinker 4: No Change 5: No Change 6: No Change After three months, roll another die on the first of every month to see if you change back to your original character class. Rolling a 1 or a 2 means you change back, 3-6 means you stay the same until next month. This might make for an interesting turn in events in an individual campaign, with the outlook and goodwill of other pilots changing as a result of your change in personality. Reflects the possible effects of the loss of a good friend in battle and why some veterans tended to avoid making friends with new pilots. I don't know if it would be hard or easy to implement, but might be something to think about! Cheers!
  4. A miss, I think. It all depends on whether either of you are in any kind of a roll. Roll = hit. No roll = no hit.
  5. OT - Cajun Air Festival 2011

Dayton is a pretty quiet town, nestled between the bustling metropoli of Cincinnatti and Columbus. This means that it shouldn't be too crowded, even for the Centennial Air Show. OTOH, being a small city also means that there are not a whole lot of hotel rooms. I'm sure we can find you a decent place for your kit--if all else fails we can dig you a foxhole! The way things look now, this could be a dicey situation. I wonder if they'll have the Airshow if the rapture occurs?
  6. Very cool. Thanks for adding that encounter I dreamed up, although I hope it doesn't actually happen to me! Ha, ha! So they become busom buddies, right? Regular bunkmates, as it were!
  7. Sounds good. I think this will be a very fun addition to P3--and P4!
  8. Lothar, please find attached a zip file containing an appendix I put together a while ago listing in detail both the regularly scheduled and the non-regular events that take place in 3P. It may be helpful for you in the future in scripting new events, if they are not already contained in your mod. 3P List of Events.zip
  9. The OFF incomplete campaign editor 0.5.1

Got it now. Looking forward to trying it out.
  10. Lothar, I clicked on the above link and got a "file not available" message. Can you post a working link? BTW, did you see my conversation with Bletchely about his 3P mod, in which we discussed a couple of additions/revisions? I can't remember the link right off the top of my head, but you may find it interesting. I also really like your additon of funerals to the squadron events.
  11. British Med Fleet Gibraltar 1938

Fascinating discussion, gents! Amazing some of the feats the Swordfish were responsible for in the early part of the war: Taranto, Bismarck...
  12. OT - Cajun Air Festival 2011

Nice pictures, Bullethead! Glad you were able to get to an air show near your Bayou hideaway. You should begin planning to come up to Yankee land to the Dayton 100th anniversary WW1 Fly-In scheduled for September of 2014. We can promise you plenty of booze if you decide to attend! I hate it when they do that. Almost as annoying as the blaring music they often play at the 4th of July fireworks displays.
  13. The OFF incomplete campaign editor 0.5.1

This sounds really interesting! Bletchley and I talked about such a mod incorporating his 3P pilot mod, but we both felt it was beyond both of our programming abilities. I'm glad that Lothar has taken a stab at this. Over to the mods forum to take a gander...
  14. Rear Gunner Questions

Good deal Lima, I will try to get around to playing around with your mod soon. In addition to everything with my Dad (who is doing much better and is now out of the hospital), I have also been feeling a little under the weather recently, so haven't flown for several days. I also have a couple of my own projects going on--a minor revision of my DM and a revised FM for the Fokker EV/DVIII, so I can't give you a timetable. But thanks for your work, and I will try to integrate it with my own stuff soon.
  15. WHAT? No World Series Thread?

I sometimes forget to check this forum, but I can't beleive their is no World Series thread! This has been one of the weirdest and entertaining (if not very well played sometimes) World Series in a long time. If you are interested in baseball at all, I hope you saw the last hour or two of Game 6 last night. After being ahead for most of the game, the Rangers went ahead by 2 twice in the ninth and tenth innings, and the Cardinals came back to tie them both times. On two separate occassions, the Rangers were within one strike of winning the series. Finally, in the 11th innning, the Cardinals third baseman (who had tripled to tie the game in the ninth), hit a game ending home run to center field. I admit that baseball can be pretty boring for most of the season and early in many playoff games, but this one was so full of ups and downs, you couldn't help but keep watching. Anyways, tonight is the last game, winner take all. Go Cardinals! :
  16. Sick as a Dog....

Sorry to hear you were under the weather, Dave. Glad to hear you are back at it again. I guess that nurse must have worked wonders!
  17. Rear Gunner Questions

Lima, You are exactly correct about the solution to your problem. Because you went from an empty weight of 879.6xxxx to 1262.0xxxx (adding an extra digit to the left of the decimal) you need to reduce the trailing zeros in 1262.00000 to 1262.0000. You should be good to go after that.
  18. Rear Gunner Questions

Sounds good. I'll look forward to trying out your mod. BTW, I haven't forgotten about integrating your two-seater gun mod into my DM. I've just been very busy at work and with my Dad in the hospital with pneumonia. Fortunately, he is feeling much better and should be getting out of the hospital later today and I will have a little more time to test the revisions to my DM and integrate your changes into the .xdp files. Speaking of which: do you want to integrate your Lead in the A mod into my FM mods, too?
  19. Rear Gunner Questions

Sounds reasonable. Best wishes on your attempt to add some ballast to the AI aircraft in the game.
  20. Rear Gunner Questions

I'm afraid there is no other way that I have identified other than editing both the .cfg and .air file by hand. After that, however, I copy the edited .cfg and .air files and paste them into the other folders, so that saves at least some work. But then you have to rename at least the .air files so it matches the name of the plane folder: Camel_SC1.air for example belongs in the Camel_SC1 aircraft folder. The .cfg files are a bit tricky because the QC version of the file is one line longer than the other versions (SC, AC, and Sqd) and can cause the dreaded plane not valid error.
  21. Does P4 get it's own name?

    OFF: Sic Transit Gloria
  22. Western Front War by Maps

I think you have found the Bermuda Triangle of OFF--the place where planes disappear and strange UFO sightings occur.
  23. Rear Gunner Questions

To be honest, I'm not completely sure. I try to make both the .cfg and .air file the same, just to be on the safe side. I think this is correct. I believe QC is for QC battles only and are not used in campaign, while the Sqd files are used in the campaign by both you and your squadmates, with the AC files left for AI enemies and friends not in your squadron. I think you can check this by looking at the OFF.log file which is generated after each campaing mission. I can't remember exactly where it is located, but it shows what other squadrons, both friendly and enemy, that are in the sky at that time, along with their aircraft assignments: AC or Sqd, etc. That indeed is a dilemma. Wish I could help out or give you some other suggestions. Perhaps if you send a PM to Polovoski or an email to OBD support, they may be able to give you a little more help or information.
  24. Hee, hee. I sense a virtual wager coming on, although it hardly seems fair since my team is already up 2 games to 1 on your team.
