1. Yes 2. No. When we consider adding a plane, it's based on historical value, adding depth to the campaign, allowing for a fair balance... and of course how much it will contribute to the immersion. Other than some shoreline bombing and ship attacks, the HB would not be a high enough priority to build, especially against a Pfalz D.XII, Sopwith Snipe... Alb 2-seater, Dorand, Cauldron.. etc.. etc.. etc... Believe me, if we could, they'd all be in there, but we can't. One model at a time. Thankfully, we will have a full compliment of Noops, and the E.V to play with. I haven't started my lobbying efforts yet.. but I am going to beg either WM or Polovski for that long awaited Pfalz D.XII or Fokker D.VI.... hint... hint... ;) Or even... the Halberstad CLII!!!! If not, I'd love to see more early war crates like the Voison, Aviatik... etc.. OK... here we go again!! OvS

Fokker E.V in Marine Feld Jasta I, II & III
OvS replied to OvS's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Ohlam, Great stuff! As much as I do respect DSA's information and opinions, and believe me I do... you also have to put everything into perspective and add doubt to it all, as he will tell you, it's his opinion, based on his research... it's not bible. Although the German's were top-notch at archiving everything, they also lost portions of it during bombing of WWII, and some of it simply lost over time... so we can add speculation to it all... and we did. Another issue we came across was noticed when we actually applied the suggested paint scheme to planes in OFF based on his color charts. Some looked very good, and some were so off the wall that they looked silly. So again, we altered and tweaked to the look of the game and the thought of being speculative. At worst, we can call it an adaptation of DSA works. As far as the D.VIII, we knew that, and have heard it suggested as well that not one made it to the front after the alterations were made, but again, sprinkling a little doubt and speculation... you'll have them to fight the Snipe, when and if it becomes available. Why not... we can have a little fun and imagination with history as wel... besides... it takes a lot of work to make these planes and skin them... we want you all to enjoy them as well. OvS -

Fokker E.V in Marine Feld Jasta I, II & III
OvS replied to OvS's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks guys, it's pure inspiration driven by a really great and supportive community!! The E.V was only deployed to a few elite units and was released to the front in mid-August 1918. Some reports have it in the hands of Jasta 6 as early as mid-July... but much of what you read on the I-net about the E.V is very speculative at best. Even that Erich Lowenhardt flew it with Jasta 5 is wrong. Jasta 5 never recieved it and Lowenhardt was dead before it reached the front. Same for Jasta 24, it never flew it as well. Only J1, J6, J8, J19, J36, and 3 MFJ's had access to the new plane. Based on speculation, J11 and J6 will receive the D.VIII very late in the war. We did this as we wanted a little bit of balance and also... what the heck. Polovski did an awesome job on the model, why only have it in the game for a short time. If I were Germany, I'd toss everything I had in even half-servicable condition to win the war. So we kinda based the decision to add in the D.VIII on that pont. So we did our best to evenly balance it all for you. I don't have the exact dates as Shred handles all that, but it's there as it should be as best as we can As for flying it... it's a cross between a Dr.1 and the D.VII. It's fantastic to fly, not as manuverable as the Dr.1 and slower than the D.VII... but it handles better than the Dr.1 as it's much more stable. It feels lighter as it can climb very well, and the visiblilty is very good. For it's size, it's a better alternative than the Dr.1, but does not outclass the superior D.VII. As it's been said, the D.VII can make a decent pilot into an Ace of Aces... as Jasta 13's Franz Buchner found out. I don't see that happening with the E.V. More to come!! All the best, OvS -

FCJ looked better than HASP... but the content I had far exceeded FCJ. Side-by-side... you got more bang for your buck with HASP as it was free... The scenery in FCJ was claimed to be better than HASP, but I diagreed as Rabu did a far superior job of making the country side in HASP blended and seamless, unlike the definate repition of tiles you saw at high altitude in FCJ. Plus we matched the look of the skins to the look of the scenery. But again, it all depended on who was using it, and their opinions. I am biased because I made HASP... OvS

Info About Plane Skins
OvS replied to Firecage's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
Hello Firecage, welcome to the world of OFF and our Forum. Like Bullet and Sandbagger have pointed out, there are no templates we can provide as it is a ton of work to make one. Bullet suggested 1 week... it normally takes me almost a month to make a base template with all the kudos and shading blended as seamless as possible. After that, I can pump out skins at about 1 every 3 days for the Jastas, and aces all depend on the amount of detail and color. Some easy.... some are hell (Gerog Noth's Alb D.III ... I still have nightmares about that one!!) best to do as Sandbagger suggests... start with a base Jasta .DDS file, then build from there. The problem with the DDS format is that it begins to loose clarity and sharpness the more you replicate it. So I tend to remake the whole template... then save a new one for each Jasta... then add in aces from there. This way I know I have all clean saves based on the 1st draft originals. The E.V I am working on now is by far the best skin I have ever made...period. With the help of Polovski's suggestions, and shading requests, and Makai's correct lozenge coloring... I have been able to really add a higher level of detail to this plane that I never thought I could. At any rate.... have fun with it... and post your results. Don't be shy... and we're always here to ask questions of. We have some very good skinners on this board in Olham, Widowmaker, Bullet and a few others that would be more than willing to give advice. But my best advice to start out with.... keep it circa. WWI planes look silly in modern colors/patterns. All the best, OvS -
Yeah man, post that info! If I can run it again, I'd like to see it once more.

Well... I'm the same age as you... I used to play as a D-Back, was fast as lightning, great hands, and tossed my 140 lbs frame at on-coming trucks (running backs) without out regard for my own life... Now... I'm sore all over, from what, I don't know... I've not only lost a step, but lost many... but the burst is still there... and my 195 lb won't get out of it's own way, let alone anyone elses. Yes, it sucks getting old, but I enjoy hearing some of us still retain their youth. Good luck to you man!! Kick a$$! OvS Man.. but I would LOVE to play again!!! I did it when I turned 35.... against a bunch of 20 somethings.... and it felt great!!!

RB3D was for it's time, the best it could have been with either of the 3 main patches installed... that being WFP. FCJ, or my own HASP. It taught me a lot about WWI and the many deeper aspects of it... like you said, cutting your teeth. But now 11 years old... even modded, does not compare at all to OFF. It was a great mold to buld OFF from, and gave us a HUGE example of what to do and what not to do (removing LGM's). So no, I have not played it in years, and never will again.. but I don't dare disconnect myself from the great experiences I had playing it, or modding it. Without it, I would not be part of OFF... But with OFF, for me, it allowed me to really dig deep with my skins and have a ball, not worrying about any 256 color palettes, or mirrored sides... or anything. 400+ active German pilots... compared to what... 20 in RB3D. It was a great amount of fun for it's time, and really gave many of us a decent taste of WWI Air Combat. But OFF puts us into the war. :) All the best, OvS

.62 up and running.. all good. In fact, it looks better to me, much smoother and a little faster. I guess these updates really do things now and then. OvS

E.V is looking REALLY nice! That's all I can say... OvS

Now and then, to blow-off some steam from work, I like to light my car on fire... drive full throttle up the Long Island Expressway with Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" blasting over the radio, while I'm screaming obcenities at the top of my lungs. Usually does me really good. OvS

Yes, it's getting crowded again. Some of them I think I can remove, but I'm going to wait until we're all settled in and done before I do anything. I want to see how much more/less room the new look will have. But I do agree... we need a place to put all the great videos you guys make. It's great for us and helps new users get a raw feeling for the game from a users point-of-view, rather than a fully edited marketing clip. Thanks as always for the good suggestions. OvS

Gents, Hold fast on the comments.. and let the elves work... this seems to only be the backbone according to Fates sneak peak picture. Since we are here by the grace of good neighbors, and a common interest... let the work continue until it's states it's a finished product. Believe me... if I released half my skins as WIPs... they wouldn't be anything close to what they look like now... it just takes time, and sometime, a lot of tweaking. I know the boys of CombatAce will have a nice look for us very shortly. All the best, OvS PS... the ONLY request I have is DEFINATELY a seperation betweem the stickies and the normal posts like it used to be.

Frenchies is the only other one I know of.

Yes, I changed the C to a K... and thereby coined the phrase... Krumpet... note: it's in my signature... But it's every bit of what Olham suggests... it's all about tea and crumpets... OvS
