Winston, From my perspective, which is no better than yours, the patch improved things a lot. The reason my perspective is not better is because I have no clue what is in each patch that we test, other than a quick list Winder sends out, which is him asking us what to look for that is wrong. So I am looking for things that WM and Pol feel may be causing issues, and I discover the rest. The list never says anything about the specifics of adding things in, it mechanical and made to alert us to look for problems. Case in point, the scenery... Winder told us to look for bad scenery tiles... he didn't specifically say he improved anything as much as he did... well to my utter shock and surprise, the scenery looked fantastic! More trees, more color, more variety, more damage. Same for the new hangars at the dromes, which were a very welcomed improvement. Life at home base! I can give other examples, but why... you get my point. I am no better than you. But, what I find is that everyone has a desire for a high level of perfection in their own mind, and what they base that level on, only they know. This is a sim of WWI air combat... the rest is all about the atmosphere of it. If you read more books, you will find OFF is a very close interpretation of the Hell that WWI was. Unlike past sims that were basically rough guesses, OFF was researched intensely, and produced from that research. Hence the smaller flight numbers in the begining. As the war raged on, the Germans had it tougher as the Brits flew in larger formations, outnumbering them almost 2 to 1. So the JG's would fly together to gather numbers, but were still outnumbered... however, they're pilots were slightly better, and had less greenies flying in mass formations. Winder, Pol and Rex have done a miracle of a job transforming a sh$t sim like CFS3 into a whole new world, that closely resembles the truth behind WWI. We can't please everyone, but as Winder mentioned, rather than open-mouth blasting, choose a better method like a poll. If you do have ligitimate issues that can be fixed, believe me, Winder will look into them. Other than that, I can't figure out what else to say. OFF is a total package, and yes might still have some minor issues, but overall... I'm happy to overlook them with the insane feeling of realizm I get after flying a few intense missions. OvS

Fantastic!! What luck these two folks have. My wife and I had a good laugh over that one. Thanks!

Well... we might as well come clean... You see... we're not really human. Winder and Polovski have been assimilated by the Borg, and really have no idea what rest or human exhaustion is. Paarma, myself and Shred were Space Marines, but a while back were taken captive, and converted to Strogg. Sandbagger is actually Agent Smith... while Makai.... also known as Dr. Manhattan... has left Earth and is at an unknown location, possibly Mars... but we lost him on the scanners. That about sums it up for us... Got booze? OvS

The problems I have start once I get a little damage. In my OAW, I couldn't outrun, out-turn, or out manuever them. The only chance I had was to bang hard rudder turns which worked for a little while, but as I came out of one, I realized I was parellel with one heading the opposite way, and his Rear Gunner plugged the hell out of me... down I went. They are very agressive, and true to form. The Brisfit and Salmson 2a2 were the most feared. Especially once the Brisfit was fitted with 2 Lewis guns in the rear. It was a nasty combo. OvS

Gents, these are great!! Do you print them from the JPG files you posted, or do you have them saved as PDF files? I'd like to place these somewhere, maybe in a new thread here and make it a sticky. OvS

Please by all means... use them. His stuff is very good and OBD Approved.

Yes... avoid them... period. I shot down 2 of them 2 nights ago, last night, they kicked our butts and I died. I hate them. I actually get depressed when I see them as I know I am going to die.

Belly up to the bar boys!
OvS replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
That is a pretty cool idea! -
Oh God... here we go AGAIN!!!! From the Summary of posted report... as well as I have seen the Nova special on this and I agree 100%... Popkin deserves the credit for the kill, which means, MvR never lost a fight he engaged. "SUMMARY The Official post mortem examination report is, in all probability, flawed and it is most likely that the bullet track was along a line joining the entrance and exit wounds. In other words the bullet came from behind, below and lateral to von Richthofen. There is little doubt that the bullet penetrated his heart and was fatal. Neither Captain Brown nor Gunner Buie could have inflicted such a wound. The only known gunner that could have done so was Sergeant Popkin when he opened fire for the second time when Richthofen was turning away from him. Richthofen then lost control of his aeroplane and crashed, he was dead when his aeroplane hit the ground. From the evidence of the postmortem examination and from eyewitnesses it was therefore most probably Sergeant Popkin who fired the fatal shot, although a lucky shot from an unknown soldier firing his rifle can not be excluded. UNCONFIRMED!! OvS PS... yes, MvR will die on his assigned date of 22 April 18. We debated this back and forth and decided it was best to let history rule over personal accomplishments. It's better that way... so you took him down, but did not kill him. He'll be back again, until he dies on his date. -
Brothers Richthofen taken down by Camels? HA! Manny was taken by 2 things... disregard for his own rules (and that of his mentor's).... and an Aussie MG. Which means he never lost a dogfight. A Camel? It's only as good as the turns it makes... other than that... it's open season. Can't climb, can't dive (slow), can't outrun... but it can turn. Using proper B/Z techniques gets you plenty of Camels on your kill list. OvS

Flying by the seat of your pants
OvS replied to Rickitycrate's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Jim... you need therapy... really... you do. Might I suggest a few doctors.... Dr. J. Daniels Dr. J. Beam Dr. G. Dickel and my personal favorite - Dr. J.W. Black Really, any one of the above will help tremendously with your problem, and the medication they perscribe helps sooth most nerve issues and such. All the best, OvS -
The only true comparison I can make is my bike. I road with a shortie (or a 'Brain-bucket as they are called) and no windscreen. So it was all hitting my face. It was fairly quiet until I turned my head, then it rumbled like hell. All I could really hear was my own pipes. But I could hear the turbulence of the wind over my ears. I expect in a biplane that when the engine is off, you'll hear a good robust 70+ MPH wind through the wires, but with the windscreen to deflect it, it would only be as loud as that. As we work each plane, we'll be looking into to is as Winder said. All the best, OvS

We're working on this for the next phase, or an add-on. I've tuned the rotary and added in background wind louder than it was before, testing it solely on the new Fokker E.V. It's better, but needs more work. I know what you mean about riding, also imagine that the pipes were behind you. I had drag pipes on my Magna, which is a 4-banger. It was as loud as a NASCAR, and all I could hear were the pipes. But some bikes that are quieter you can hear the wind. It all depends a where the pipes are. Most German crates using the Mercedes engine have them right in front of you. I will speak with Winder and see about adding in more cockpit effects. It can be done, but I don't want to go too crazy as you wouldn't hear them with an engine roaring in front of you anyway. ;) OvS

WOW!! It's been that long... Jeeze... time flies.

Hi Ace, I'll help here, and try to be as unbiased as possible. 1. A: Not just eye candy, there is more to RoF, and the DM has a lot of damage to it. 2. A: OFF is a Campaign based Simulation. It's sole purpose was to mimic WWI as close as possible, with room to grow. It's chocked full of history, action, atmosphere, and everything else we could fit into the package to give the user the best look of what WWI could have been like in the air. 3: A: Yes, at present, 35 (?), and more to come in the future. All planes in OFF are flyable, even the 2-seaters. Plus you can fly a campaign and career as a 2-Seater pilot. 4: A: Cheaper depends on what cheaper means. More value, less price, less investment? Refer to the respective websites to learn what you get for your money. Also consider SUPPORT.. 5. A: Correct. But apparently, RoF will run without internet once started. Check with RoF's staff/forum for more info. 6. A: TOTALLY DYNAMIC. Every mission is a whole new experience, every career is different, every day is different. BUT, we left the end results the same, Germany still looses. No sense in changing history. We're not Gods. 7. A: Yes, but Phase 4 is a long way from now. And we hope with an all new look. But Phase 3 will keep you wrapped up for many months, maybe years to come. If you like RB3D, get ready for your old favorite on some very serious steriods. 8. A: We're not sure. Since Win7 is not offical, we can't say officially. Some have tested it on the Beta of Win7 with success. So we'll consider it good for now. When M$ releases the new O/S for public use, then we'll see. 9. You should... but make sure all drivers are up to date, and tweak the settings as per the 'Tips and Tricks' thread in the Knowledge Base for more help. Also, you can adjust the sliders to fit the use. Even toned down, OFF still looks fantastic! So don't think for a second that if you set the details for 'medium' it will loose face... hell no... it's as awesome at 2 as it is at 5. I hope that helps... OvS

Thanks for these Steve... we can always use more historic info. I saved them and I'm sure Shred will pop in and grab them as well. OvS

Hello Carrick, Welcome to the OFF:BHaH forum, and we're happy to hear your seeing what we call 'total immersion', one of the top aspects of OFF. You never know what you're going to see, and every mission is different. Even if you come out of Campaign mode, and right back in.. it's a whole new mission. All the best, OvS PS... it's 'AA' fire, or Anti-Aircraft (Ack-Ack). AAA is the Automobile Club of America.

Sweet! Good luck Cappy!

Olham... same for Boistrancourt.... it's almost identical to the way it was in 1915-1918... even the Sugar Factory is still there and running. If there is one thing I respect about non-capitalist countries, is they know how to preserve countriside. Unlike us here in the States... we build over everything... including Civil War Battlefields, just so some overpaid idiot can have a new McMansion. OvS

Yeah.... and then the ladies meet the real guy down below... called a Mechanic... PS.. you guys can "Pull G's" all day... we can see in the dark with our hands. Beat that with the ladies.
