What Does Your Cockpit Look Like?
OvS replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
No problem... One more... if you look closely at Pic #2... inside the 'wall' of my desk, there is a large paper cartoon strip to the right. It's a TV Repairman standing with a woman, looking at a TV with a large lamp post slammed into it. She is saying to him... "My husband said to send the bill to the New York Jets"... Kindly note my green baseball cap on the left... "NYJ"... story of my life. -
Out here in Long Island, we have 2 major Teenager Killing roads... The Northern State and Southern State Parkways. They are notorious killers because neither road is flat, is full of straightaways, leading into crowned turns, and twists, and hills. They were originally designed by Robert Moses as 'Parkways', meaning, you are driving slowly, through a nice winding road, full of trees and park like settings. Well, 70 years later, modenrization and overpopulation, we have the twin killers. Two years ago, some idiot in his HS Graduation gift, a brand spanking new BMW 750 series from Mom and Dad out of the showroom, vaporized himself, and 3 friends doing well over 120 MPH on a tight turn on the Northern State. He went off the road, and the car completely let go. The papers said they had to bring in Forensic scientists to tell the body part (that were left) from each victim. One year we had a 70's style Corvette gain air on a hill, flip on it's nose and pancake into the top-end of a 13ft Max height Over-pass. The speed was suggested to have been 150 MPH. The back half of the car that made it over the top was recovered about 1/2 mile up the road, the other half (the nose) with the driver in it, exploded on impact... nothing left. It was horrible. The Rice-Rocket scenario is another whole story in itself. At leat 1 dies a month, especially in the summer months. These idiots just never learn. Well, write it off to population control. At least the stupid ones can't pro-create. OvS

What Does Your Cockpit Look Like?
OvS replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Here's my 'Landing Pad' and a little tour ... Pic#1.... The view behind me hold my 1/72 scale models that I've made over the years, dating back to my college days. Some are crap, but hey, they're getting old like me. ;) I have a poster from Rhinebeck, and a Bavarian flag from my visit there in 2008. Also the two framed shots on the right are from a vendor I came across at an Air Show at Embry Riddle, back in 1992. The 3 frames above the window were given to me by a close friend who found them at a garage sale... go figure. More about him in a bit. On the wall next to the window is my prized possession, one of two framed prints from Jim Dietz. This one is more special, I saw it first in a museum in Tennessee, and I had taken a photo of me standing next to it. I sent it to Jim asking him if he had any more... the guy actually sold me his last copy of it.. I think it was his. Talk about a cool guy... Jim defines it. It was framed at a local Michael's Art Supply. The Fish is from my daughter for Father's Day. She wants to go fishing someday, but I won't take her... I hate fishing... I hate fish... bleech. Sorry kid... you're Dad sucks. Pic#2.... The next shot is front facing, and my desk. Above it on the top shelf and the shelf to the left are several jars of soil and or sand from places I have been over the years. I love to collect dirt... above the desk on the wall are my all so coveted, and God-aweful expensive diplomas from Riddle-Diddle Kite School, and to the right is my A&P License (or my License to Kill). The airplanes are Sexton Iron molds from back in the 60's. Those can easily be fround on eBay and are great for any WWI buffs desk area! The top spot on this view is the framed picture on the left... it's me, in Frank Luke's pose. The same friend's husband who got me the other prints painted it for me. I've already convinced my daughter that I am over 100 years old with this one... Pic#3... Finally behind my right shoulder, is the stairs to the landing... and my other framed Dietz print. One more important part in the second picture is the rickety old chair at the desk (not the green one) ... that chair has been with me since 1995. It was my Grandmother's. It's a total disaster, BUT... in it... HASP was created, as well as all other RB3D stuff I did, and all OFF creations. I will finally retire it soon, before it retires me, the a$$pad is gone, and it barely hold me in the set when I lean back, but.. it's very sentimental. Sorry to see it go. I hope you enjoyed the tour.. no I am not self gloating here.. this is just stuff I have collected over the years from friends, traveling, and the love of aviation.. I just thought you might enjoy a little look into my 'personal space', rather than just posting pics. This is a great thread, keep it going!!! All the best, OvS PS.. the Dragons... well.. I love anything that flies, and Dragons are no different. They are the McFarlane 'Dragon' series. -
THanks guys. We as a group really did try our damnest to get every change and detail in as much as possible. Winder worked with me on many aspects of the German side, including name changes to the Jastas, the change of Jasta grouping to the JG's, especially J15 to J18, which was a tough one for us. But we nailed it. We're glad to see these questions being asked as it shows you guys are finding the little details we put into the game. Another ace sharing a skin is Kurt Wustoff, once he transfered into Jasta 15, he borrowed Georg Hantlemann's D.VII and was shot down in it. So you'll see him flying it breifly. From Wikipedia: "On 16 June, he returned to duty as a pilot in another Prussian squadron, Jagdstaffel 15. He borrowed the fancifully marked Fokker of Georg von Hantlemannn[23] to fly a patrol the following day.[24] He engaged a Royal Air Force group of four SE5's of No. 24 Squadron, three of which were aces, Ian McDonald, Horace Barton, George Johnson, and C. E. Barton, who forced Wüsthoff down in the vicinity of Cachy, France.[25] Wüsthoff was seriously wounded in both legs, taken prisoner, and treated in various French hospitals. He complained bitterly about the adequacy of his treatment." OvS

A co-worker uses it and raves about it. He's really into the whole space thing, and in fact, got me back into Astronomy. :) I've never tried Orbiter, but I've seen the site and downloaded it so many times with the thought of finally playing it... but I never have. Is it worth the time? I'd love to try the Apollo 11 or 12 missions they have. OvS

My first attempt at a training video
OvS replied to HomeBoy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Take your time with it Homeboy, I'm back from vacation on Saturday, so maybe Sunday I'll start working on getting the forum cleaned up. We could use those instructional videos as well as the series on flying the WWI planes I keep seeing popping up. I'd like to put all these as many other things into the "Knowledge base" section. OvS -
Have you guys checked out what is replacing the Oribter Missions? It's called the Orion... and remarkably... it's the same concept as the tired and true Apollo LM/CM technology. In fact, the Sartun V delivery system (aka Rocket) is being overhauled and redesigned to send the Orion package into space. It's all the same stuff, but modern. I saw it all in progress this past April when we stopped by the Kennedy Space Center in April. The 60's and early 70's were the heyday of NASA... since then, they wasted a lot of time, and ground on building the ISS. I know.... it was important to build, and it is a very good tool towards scientific research and development, and of course the Hubble... but I am talking about inter planet exploration. We should have kept going to the Moon, and beyond. 1969 was the year Man stepped on the Moon, 2009, we should be stepping on Mars. All the best! OvS

At the time we were making the D.VII skins, Makai, Shred and I talked over LvR's D.VII. Because he was known to have borrwed Alois Heldmann's, and well as Just's, we had a hard time choosing. His D.VIIF also need a color scheme, so the red scheme (which is often associated with Hermann Göring's D.VII) was used on the D.VIIF, and I chose to use Alois Heldmann skin for LvR's D.VII adding in the white wheel covers instead of the wire spokes. We only have 1 choice of paint per plane per ace per year, so it was a tough one. Down the road, if we can link dates to skin changes, you might see LvR fly all of the borrowed skins on all dates, but for now the Jasta 10 borrowed crate will remain. If I can pin down LvR's paint scheme for his D.VII and seperate it from the D.VIIF, I will add them in, but I have nothing on it. What I didn't want was the same scheme on the D.VII as well as the D.VIIF... which I know for a fact was not the case with LvR's plane. I just don't know what each one looked like. As many German aces did (Udet, Goring, LvR, some of J18's and J15's aces) once MvR died, many of them either painted the whole fuselage, or a very good part of it in all red. But exactly what LvR flew, I don't know for sure. OvS

Hitler Parody: Over Flanders Fields
OvS replied to Launchbury's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Eh, comon... smile a little. ;) I think Goodfellas is a riot, it's all about the NY Mob scene... you know, Italian Americans... 'my people'... same with the Sopranos, but they're from NJ. Yeah, it's insulting, as if all Italians from NY are connected, carry guns, are as smart as a piece of wood and talk funny. But, what the hell... I guess we are. LOL! In fact, I know where Bada Bings really is, as well as many of the spots in Goodfellas, A Bronx Tale and Cop Land are. Listen, every German I ever had the pleasure of meeting were great people, kind and helpful... you're no different. Adolf was an ass, he certainly doesn't represent the good people of Germany. All the best, OvS -
Gents and Lady, With great respect given to everyone's love and passion for WWI sims and games, we've given a tremendous amount of flexibility to the postings in reference to RoF, its content and of course, the unfortunate comparisons between OFF and RoF. On occasion, I have stepped in and asked a video to be removed, or a conversation to be cut short simply because this is the OFF forum. Allowing the bashing of another game publically on a commercial site does not lend well to the image of OBD Software, it's members, and of course, our community. This forum is here for your pleasure, the place to come and exchange fun stuff and be a part of the OFF backed community. In the past, members have chosen to post specific information concerning RoF that in fact, has offended some of the OFF team members, and or us as a group. We've been flexible as I mentioned and lent it to the Freedom of Speech. Also, I have recieved PM's from members asking me to close all RoF related materials in the past, and refrained. I felt it was everyone's right to post and discuss openely topics that they feel they are passionate about and have a desire to speak about. But at this time, I unfortunately feel it's time to clamp down on the RoF postings. What is fair is fair. You have bought our product, and should expect the highest level of support and detail from us, even when it comes to our forum. Thanks to the guys here at CombatAce, they gave us a place to roam and hang out that far exceeds anything we've had in the past. I wish to keep it that way and keep a high level of professionalism towards the CombatAce crew and for the OFF Community. So with that in mind, please refrain from posting updates, videos, comparisons, etc.. etc.. about RoF on the OFF forum. Recently, on a seperate CombatAce forum, one of our close friends and OFF Community members actually got into a near personal flame war with a rather aggressive RoF poster, of which even the Admin stepped in and defended our member, as well as OFF. I do not wish to see that on this forum, so therefore, I simply ask that you post information regarding RoF on it's respective forums out there on the internet, where fellow RoF users will find your information useful. Thank you for your understanding, With respect to you, OvS

O/T Ya'll give Mrs. Cameljockey a hand!

Great job CJ, and congrats! I'm at 12 married, together 15... and I've successfully avoided being killed 'naturally' several hundred times. I simply remind her.. 'Nah, you're not getting that money that easily' Today's attempt was during a dusk walk she INSISTED on going, and we came across an adolecent Black Bear... nice try babe. ;) OvS -
Thanks for posting Jason, and your correct input in the matter. No doubt the level we are trying to achieve here as well. There's no reason why they both can't exist, without the silliness. Hence my request that it's better to avoid the subject, than pursue it. All the best, OvS

That was them! A-huh-huh--hoo! I loved the way they taunted Kermit from their booth. Great show from the 70's. BTW... thanks. ;) OvS

Winder has a huge billboard on his front lawn...OFF:BHaH 'over 1 billion sold', kinda like the McDonald's sign. As for this thread, since I posted it and have been trekking across lovely Canada this week, I have not been able to respond to any comments. So... 1. Freedom of Speech is always welcome here, as you all know already... within the simple rules that we have... and they are simple. Keep it clean, on topic, and worth reading from all walks of life. This is NOT an open public forum, it's a forum based to inform you of the game, to meet people with like interests and to simply have fun. It's not a dating service, a voting booth, a stock sales site... nothing.. it's simply a General Forum under the title of the OFF Forum on CombatAce.com. OK? 2. At no point is anyone being restrained, cut off, asked to leave, beaten... etc.. etc.. etc.. except me of course. Seems I am the direct target of a Kids Cereal box cover character. But, believe me, I'm OK with that. Of the threads I have closed, they were all related to RoF being tossed about, and promoted, and two threads on jokes that I wouldn't let my daughter read (albeit they were funny as hell!!). You are on your own here, and here for your fun and benefit. I have been a member of WWI sim forums since Rook managed Flightsim Forum (where the RB3D forum first lived), which turned into a total disaster, then on to SWWISA (the BvH days), SimHQ... my own HASP forum (I even moderated BvH... try that some time), Sikorsky Project, SOH OFF, and now here. Plus I am also a member of several other forums on many other subjects... wildlife, MAME, Chevy Novas... etc. I've seen people come and go, flame and crash... etc. The good forums stay afloat with Preventitive Maintenance moderation... hence what I do here. 3. We do own this fourm...so in a sense, give us credit for keeping it clean and presentable for your pleasure and enjoyment. I'm not asking to give blood or body parts, I'm asking to simpy report RoF updates, and other things on an applicable RoF forum. Not here. HOWEVER... like Hellshade said, the more I think about it, it would be good to see fair and objective discussions about the differences of the two... as long as it's not a free-falling flamewar. So I think it's best I reconsider that one. And I will. 4. If you don't like it here... leave. No sense in going further with that. If you really believe this is a forum that restricts your 'Freedom of Speech'... then you haven't been to many, especially ones that are company supported like this one. We have the right to place rules for fairness and community development, and that is all I am asking. My only goal on this forum is to keep the OFF Community growing and positive. That's it. I hope this clears up any fog in this issue... All the best... and thanks for the jokes on this thread... especially the two old guys in the booth... I loved them on the Muppets! OvS

I can do it.. well, clean up the stickies... I had asked the CombatAce guys to create a 'Knowledge Base' forum for us. It's there, so I can start moving things over to it. We would have to just remind everyone that it's there and all the good info is there. I'm on vacation now, so my online time it really short, my wife uses the laptop to plan our next ventures. So once I get back home, I'll make it a priority. Should be a little over a weeks time. All the best, OvS

Same here Brother Olham.. You got me in Connecticut... Drop me about 2 pixels south, and 10 east, right in the middle of Long Island, NY. Just don't drop west.... that'll put me in that Toxic Waste dump called New Jersey... LOL!! Just kidding. PS... before I forget... This is great! Thanks for doing it.
-
Seriously, it's OK. We've been very flexible, almost too flexible... but please, come around and enjoy our forum. There is a TON of good stuff here, and a lot of great folks on this site. If you're into WWI stuff... you've found the right place! All the best, OvS
-
A couple of things here... 1. This is the OFF forum. 2. This is not the RoF forum. 3. There are hundreds of other forums this can be posted on to inform RoF users of RoF status. Refer to #1 4. OFF comes with not only the SE5a... BUT the SE5a Viper. This thread is closed and will be deleted shortly. OvS

I Couldn't Stand By and Just Let it Be
OvS replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Steve, We can't thank you enough for bringing out the 'bias' point to yet another magazine. All sims, no matter what the engine, deserve the same amount of attention as the next. And OFF is no different. Within 2 seconds of looking at that article, I could see the model issues of both the Alb D.III and the N.11 from that game. So if they want to clamor about the 'old CFS3' engine OFF is built on, they should clamor about the differences between the look and depth of OFF verses all the others. As you pointed out, there is a lot more to OFF than pretty airplanes, and some really sweet scenery. In OFF, you are part of the war, you're not just playing a game. OvS -

In order to keep the forum up, it's 100% smarter to not post anything that will bring it down.
