Good book to read while playing OFF
OvS replied to HomeBoy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Two things... 1. Some of the the boys on the forum have been asking for you. ;) Good to see you back with us. We hope you're OK. 2. Read 'Diary of an Aviator' or it might be titled : Wings: Diary of an Aviator... something close to that. It's an actual diary of an American pilot in WWI. It's his true experiences until the end of the book, and illustrated by none other than Elliot White Springs. All the best, good to see you around the hangar again. OvS -
That's very well said! Thank you.
-
Pol, If you finish that one, maybe we can sneak it in with some of the extreme southern Jastas? I know it was not used on the western front, but at least to have it in the game until we expand to the eastern front in 2011? LOL!
-
Why post something like this? As is with everything else... the price drops with time. Ever pass by the bargain bin at Best Buy? Do you think anyone that bought the first edition of anything is crying when they see it selling for less? That's the price you pay... the game is worth it regardless. How about video cards?

Try this one... its as Classic as it gets.. http://www.insane-games.com/games/classic_break_out/

Just another game we all worked on... ;) Remember my Jasta 11 Albatros D.III skins? LOL! I just thought I toss that in there to show how much some of us have been around each other, for so long. RB3D (our respective artistic offerings...even tech/historic support of) Sikorsky Project WoW OFF 10 years and counting... !!

OK, thanks Erik. Learning something everyday... and how AWESOME this forum is!! I will monitor the calendar from now on. Guys, if I don't approve things in time, drop me a PM! :)

Guys I can help. Send me the sked for the Week... and I will post it. A weekly sked will allow you to make changes. I'll do my best to stay on top of it. PM me what you need. :) OvS

I'm jotting in here as I didn't read the entire thread...but one thing large scale battles like these and all throughout history have provided is population control. As hard as that is to swallow, and maybe not a very good point to make, it is the truth. We have not had a global war since WWII... although it looks like Korea might be looking for one, hopefully not... but without them, the world's population is growing exponentially. So as bad as they are, and as much as we all hope and pray to avoid them, and remain peaceful. It is a balancing factor, for good or bad. Think of how over populated the Earth would be today without WWI and WWII. Just a thought.... certainly NOT a reason to have a war. OvS PS... to study battlefield tactis is to learn about the Roman Legion. The best there was... them and the Spartans. No better soldiers on the planet for their time and possible all over until the rifled barrel became the weapon of standard. A musket was about as useful as a short range crossbow.. hit or miss at best. The American Civil war was to the Rifle as WWI was to the MG. Technology outclassed tactics and produced up-close blood-baths.

Duck, Pull down MESS, and try that one. If you need help getting it working, let me know. It's pretty easy once you get it going... and it supports almost everything in consoles. Including Vectrex, and it looks awesome. OvS
-
Whooops!! Sorry Hellshade.. I meant Wings of War. It was a "consolish" type of WWI flying game that looked awesome, but had zero value to anyone looking for a replacement to RB3D at the time. Then I fell upon OFF, and the rest is in the books. OvS

It's good to hear that. As long as it's not like WoW was.
-
I can help Rabu, but is it the Arcade or Home console version you are looking for? And it is the late 70's we're talking about right, nothing newer?
-
Where did you read this? I tried their forum, but it's in Russian.
-
Sears or Mattel? I have the Sears unit hooked up, and 2 Mattel's wrapped in plastic in the boxes. Really just for backups. Love em all.
-
I have a working Intellivision, Colecovision, and an A2600. The rest are all via emulation now. I had a C64, but it suffered a chip failure, the characters were all different colors, but it was in near mint condition. It was funny to press the keyboard and have it feel like a typewriter. I sold it on eBay alone with the 1504 monitor and Disk Drive. It was a nice unit, sorry to see it go. Those were the days back then... 8bit.. 16bit. LOL! OvS

Matthias, So tell me... What's it like to work on these birds? You build them from scratch, I only used to repair Gen Avs (Piper, Cessnas, etc) before I jumped to 747's and the like. The closest thing I can imagine it being like is restoring my '66 Nova, but you guys fabricate everything, I only buy parts and put them on and repair what's broken. That Mercedes engine build is incredible. Do you machine all the required tooling to fabricate the missing parts ou need? Is it all done in-house? You have every REAL Aircraft Mechanics dream job! OvS

Yes, that was Atari. you can get it running with MESS, and the correct game ROM. MESS is a Multiple Emulator Super System. It's a little tricky at first but works really well. Also.. there is an Emulator called Stella for the A2600. Give it whirl, it's fun once you get it going. OvS

You really need to stretch your legs and go for a walk mate. PS... I've known Rabu for over 10 years now... if you don't like it here, you can leave. No one has chained you to anything, or made you feel as if you need to stick around. You are free to come and go as you please. Moderator or not... I'm not going anywhere... but making personal references to me and my career against something like an air disaster where over 200+ innocent lives were lost far outweighs ANYTHING I have said or could say about Obama. You seemed to have skipped over that part. Also.. I have yet to make any personal attacks on you... but yet, you keep trawling for me... pointing me out... making reference to me... as if envious or something, borderling stalking. I don't know, I've never had anyone do that to me on a forum. I'm kinda flattered. So I don't really know where you are going with this. Like I said.. a walk might do you some good. Then come back, and rethink things a little. One more point... you didn't seem to have any issues with the Forum Administrator having a debate with me about Frank Luke. That seemed to be OK in your book. So what makes this any different. That was WAYYYY more heated than anything in Widow's thread. And it was great! I learned a lot and have read even more about Luke. So, like I said... where are we going with this... you can drive.

As much as this is a WWI sim forum, I don't see a reason not to step out of our flying suits now and then and re-charge the batteries. Good for the soul!
-
WOW! That's really impressive... restoring a whole Drome! I'll bet it'll be the pride of the WWI airshows if they can pull it off. :)

Just another attempt at a personal flame war, thwarted with good rebute, ignorance of the issue, and an arrow to the heart. How do you think I feel... referenced to an air disaster. I pray those poor souls on board never knew what hit them, unlike the Korean Air flight that blew out the rear pressure bulkhead, severed all control to the tail (main hydraulic and secondary cable assist), causing it to slowly develop into an uncontrolled Dutch Roll (look it up) over 10 min. Of course... I know nothing about aircraft maintenance. Anyhow... onwards... my contribution to this great thread... I LOVE emulation. On my thumb drive I keep a seperate folder for housing my emulators. 1. DosBox portable - along with a few classics including Syndicate and the V for Victory series. 2. Nostalgia - classic Intellivision emulator and all the games to boot 3. CCS64 - Classic C64 emulator and a TON of games 4. WinUAE and WinFellow - Amiga emulators. Kickstart ROMs are tough to find, but out there. 5. MESS - covers everything from Colecovision to Vectex and is out there, as are the BIOS files and ROMs. 6. Legacy - Doom, Doom II - mask/launcher - allows you to play ID's Doom in hi-res OpenGL with full head movement. The game is 100% better. All this stuff is out there, and legal, it the ROMs that you have to find and can be tough. Over the past 8 years I've built and still own 3 home arcade cabinets all running MAME and other emulators like Dragon's Lair and many other classic consoles A2600, A5200... etc. If any of you ever need any help on that subject... let me know... It's my 3rd favorite hobby next to working on my 66 Nova Wagon, making skins for OFF and working on my house. All the best... GREAT thread Widow.. this is really a good one. OvS

Hey Cappy! Thanks for posting this. It's really a great video and seeing that Pflaz flying behind him makes you wonder what it was like in real-life. Hope all is well... Take care! OvS

No problem! Please understand why we ask... it's OK to buy on eBay, we just want to make sure it's a good, legal copy and not that someone is trying to take advantage of you and our software. Once you get it running, come back and tell us what you think of it. All the best, OvS

Anyone got a large field that could be put to good use?
OvS replied to shredward's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I meant this particular unit. If it were that old, the canvas would likely not have made it into the 80's guessing at the looks of the photos, that's when it was last standing? But yes, the design looks to be the same as in the photo. It's a real nice looking setup though. Man, if I had a field, wouldn't it be great! Looking at the color shot of the inside, I can almost smell that canvas, and hear the wind rush through the top. OvS
