  1. I agree... those are definately not from WWI. But either way, the task unfortunately would be monumental. It does not come with the canvas, or the rigging, and as the seller states, much of the wood trusses would need to have the lower member replaced from rot. Maybe there is light, and someone with a real need/taste for nostalgia at a musem will pick it up. Sad to see stuff like this slip away. OvS
  2. any guesses

Depth Charge... isn't that a tall glass a beer with a shot glass of whiskey dropped in it? Comon Camel, your just creatively repeating what PW said... Yeah, I vote Depth Charge. Looks really cool Stump! Well done.
  3. No, don't think that way... it's mostly AI we fight against, and all for fun. The missions are very good. TrackIR will help (I don't use it, I was getting sick from my head moving too much) if you want to, but I have a lot of success without it. Give it a try sometime. OvS
  4. mp game sun 6-14 730ish edt

Thanks for hosting Axe. Your missions are a lot of fun, and you guys really know how to make it even better. I bagged 5 on that Spad mission. That was a blast! OvS
  5. Or... you can join in on MP and have a belly full of laughs!! It's a ton of fun!
  6. He didn't. It takes a confident writer to stand-up and do a review. This was the result of my post asking for someone to do one for Combat Ace. Gous did a great job, even though it is a very positive one, he made some very good points both for and against OFF. It was written from the heart and from the eyes of a player, not just a fan. Great job Gous! From the whole OFF Team... thanks. OvS
  7. Sorry if you put me on one.... Lord knows my wife dosen't, so why should anyone else. Thanks for stopping in, hope to see you soon.
  8. At least I have more sense and class than to say something like that... I'm sure the men that worked on that plane lost a lot of sleep...and still are. Of course, you wouldn't know what that kind of pressure feels like, not many people do. I did, and it's not fun. Try being the last man to sign out a clean 767 (which has 2 engines in case you don't know) then finding out it had a mid-flight shutdown and diversion... talk to me when that happens to you. Nice try on tweaking me... let's see... this is try number... oh yes... 3... and I still refrain, it takes a whole lot more than that. Amazing ain't it.
  9. I have to say... Britian and America are both suffering from having such weak, liberal knuckleheads at their helms. It's going to be a LONG 4 years for the USA... I hope you guys don't have to wait that long to toss this moron you have. "Obama Beach" ... he should be shot for that. OvS
  10. Have to smile .....

Well thanks for that confidence!! And you're right. I actually feel like you deserve a better product out of me personally. So I am deeply focused on bettering my techniques, and hopefully learn some new methods to making higher quality skins. OvS
  11. I can't debate that. Hawker was flying for his life in the DH2, while as it was written, MvR was waiting for the right moment to kill him... I'd say it had a lot to do with both pilot's expert skills, but the German having the better machine of the Alb D.II. I was more reffering to the movie using an SE5a as the plane Hawker was killed in. I know I watched this movie with the wrong attitude, I tried not to do that. But even from a movie-goer's point of view, it was just pointless. I really felt that this was Germany's moment to pride itself in it's one true War hero they can be proud of. (No, don't forget Udet, but he was overshadowed as we all know). They really could have broken away from that Nazi barrier, and proved that Germany is really a great country with pride, a deep passionate history and good people... but no... they make this disaster and without a doubt, made MvR look common, and pretty much like any one else. He initially receives his PLM in a totally informal meeting with a Field Marshall, as if it was a box of cigarettes. He's mostly seen slinking around in sweaters, and very non-military attitude... which is far from the truth. He looked like a hippie with a haircut... very laid back, and loose. Not like the MvR I read about. He was tight, very militiant, as he grew up in the military, and was an Uhlan before being a pilot. But he was very good with his men, and cared deeply for them. Not quite a Patton, but cerainly an Ike. They toss in a ficticious Jewish pilot into Jasta 11, as if to represent the entire German/Jewish community of WWI all in one... rather than stay away from the subject; as being Jewish/Catholic/Protestant/whatever... meant NOTHING to Germany in WWI... well other than a rather hurtful and embarrassing moment for Jasta 27's Willie Rosenstein, whom was belittled and insulted with anti-sematic crap at Mess time in front of the entire Jasta from none other than our favorite neighborhood pre-Nazi Jacka$$, Uncle Herman Göring (are you shocked?)... causing Willie to immediately demand a transfer out of J27 and eventually getting into J40s. Good for Willie!! Degelow and the boys took very good care of him and he survived the war! So adding the Jewish pilot, was really uncalled for. In many scenes he's even wearing a yamika. There's no need to make that a point for observation, or noteriety. No one is wearing crosses or anything religious, why add that in? WWI was not about that at all, it was a class fight between commons and elite, as we saw in The Blue Max. Hence why Josef Mai never recieved higher rank or the PLM. Those amoung many other points really brought the movie to a halt for me. But watch it, to each his own. It's not fair for me to go crazy on it, I'm just pointing out a couple of errors. I've read too many books on WWI not to be mis-guided by this movie. All the best, OvS
  12. Have to smile .....

2" shorter??? Have you stopped by a local NFL Practice lately?? Good God man... what the hell do those boys eat to make them that big. I am about Wayne Chrebet's size (5'10", 195). I could NOT imagine the catastrophic horror and pain involved while being hit by Chris Jenkins size (listed: 6'5" 349) running at full speed while you're stretched out to grab a over-thrown pass. That's like stepping out in the street in front of a runaway Dump Truck. As far as the E.V... it's an E.V, not a D.VIII. No D.VIII's made it to service in WWI. It was too late by the time they corrected the issues it had. According to Dan SanAbbott, we've followed the path of historic accuracy with this plane. So it will be in colors of an E.V. The upper wing is brown/green, the lower will be Mauve/light blue-aqua-blue. It's a great model. Polovski did an outstanding job on it, and he's still tweaking it. It's very impressive. The E.V has only been seen active in Pat Wilson's Western Front Patch, and has never made an appearance in any other WWI game to this scale. So to us, it's an honor and once again, a privilege to be able to add planes like this at will. I will post more pics of it as I complete the skin. I am talking my time with this one, and not rushing it. I am re-learning how to do this, as some of my techniques in the past are really obsolete at this point. I really had no choice but to let the cat out of the bag. After seeing the RoF video, it was a very good opportunity for us to flex some OFF muscle as to what we can do. Sure, our planes might not have all the animations, and other cool stuff... but we'll have more of them, where they should be, and who should be flying them than has ever been seen before. So if you're into history, combat, tough AI, immersion... etc... take a bite of OFF, you'll like what you taste. I have a feeling that P4 is really going to break a lot more barriers than we've been able to in the past! All the best, OvS
  13. Dope and D.II's...

It's basically a lighter version of varnish. It's got the consistency of milk, or thinned paint, but acts like furniture varnish... and it'll put you on the floor if you breathe enough of it. OvS
  14. I have to agree 100%. It was awful. Seeing Lothar looking like a whining little brat was the top of the cake. The whole movie was just unbearable and pathetic. They didn't even get Hawker's demise correct.. an SE5a? They rewrite it when it's already scripted for them right under their noses. The only thing cool about this movie was seeing what the skies over Flanders might have looked like with all the really cool planes... but then again, I get the right out of OFF. LOL! OvS
  15. Have to smile .....

I just don't like the fact that I am stuck flying against a SPAD XIII or N28 if I want to fly German, which I always do. There needs to be more to this game than this
  16. Have to smile .....

We're not, as you can see I didn't. I just don't want it to go crazy now. All is as it was, it's a good thread. If you guys want to continue on, by all means. I just felt it kinda ran it's course, that's all. :) BTW... what's with the Balloon being at 15K? That high, and the crew would be passed out in the bucket. It looks way too high from my perspective. They only raised them to between 3-7K. OvS
  17. Have to smile .....

I don't think the debate was ever about how good it looks, or sounds... flys whatever... But I don't see any of THESE flying around... but P4 ... one never knows.... Now that I've posted this, and will probably get solitary for it... I think it's time we winded this discussion down. It's taken it's course. OvS
  18. OFF: The Holy Grail OFF: The Meaning of Life OFF: History of the World Part II OFF: Etc..etc.. etc.. or OFF: The Pink Panther Returns Even better... OFF3: Rise of the Machines
  19. Phase 4 or Planes add-on disk

    Nah... really? ;)
  20. Long Island was the cradle of GA's infancy... it's gone to commercialism, and it looks like GA will be gone as well. Without GA, I would never have gone to Embry-Riddle, or had such a deep love for aviation. I still love dropping by Republic Airport and sniffing around the lot of Cessnas, Pipers and Mooney's just sitting there waiting to be flown. It's sad what we are doing to this contry. All the fun stuff is all slipping away to taxes, fee, permits.. etc..etc. :( OvS
  21. OFFs Mulitplayer server

I have a good password for you.... ALLHAILERIK!!! Thanks for the support as always.
  22. Enough to make you weep!

Tell me about it. It does make me sick. If you don't want to help it back to life, then let it go. There is a guy right around the block from me, and in his driveway there is a 70' Doge Dart (Fastback) no motor, but it's painted in original Mopar orange and has all the original black 340 stripes on it. And another is a 71 'Cuda, in white. They are both sitting there, under tarps, rotting away. The salty, humid Long Island summer air is killing them both... but he won't sell either of them. Jerk. I tried buying the 'Cuda, but he said no. That was 8 years ago... neither of them have moved. Hence why I bought the Nova. OvS
  23. Enough to make you weep!

That looks like no more that 25 years of sitting there. Shame. They could have salvaged parts from it and used it for other Camels. Not too smart doing that to an old bird like that. Even if the pilot was killed, that's no way to treat a plane like that. OvS
  24. I've never seen that error, or the blue dial thing either. I think it's you version of CFS3. Mine is the original, however, bought on Amazon as well. But it's the scaled down version for cheap sales. OvS
  25. Have to smile .....

WF2, thanks for posting that for some clarification. Still, not everyone is on DSL or Cable (broadband) so that doesn't bode well for the players that are on dial-up, NetZero, AOL.. etc. PLus, do I have to keep extra cables lying around when I start breaking the tabs off of my Ethernet plugs? Every time I play I have to pull out the PC, let it hang on the side of the desk until I am done? No thanks. As far as online play, it's that cut and dry. There are many aspects that effect the speed and performence of the game. Will it pull updates during a game? What if the server is overloaded and crashes? How many servers are up? How many connections will it allow at once? Is there a waiting room? After reading all of your posts and really listening to you all talk and opinionate about it, I doubt I will be buying RoF. Talking from a gamers point of view, nothing to do with OBD, or OFF. I think it's crazy to have to log on to a server every time I want to play my game. Regardless of the piracy issue, to me it's a PRIVACY issue. I don't want my PC talking to anything or anyone without my input or control. I've cleaned many a PC for my friends and family thanks to Limewire, Napster (when it was open), and all the other file sharing sites. As much as they claim that it will be protected, if they can take down Avsim, they can take down anyone. Piracy cannot be stopped, no matter what you do. I've trawled newsgroups enough in the past to physically see the amount of cracked stuff out there, and see how good the guys are that do it. They love to break the back of anyone that thinks they can't. So all they are doing, is challenging the mass. The only way to counter piracy is to accept it, and sell enough ligitimate copies that it doesn't effect your sales. Connecting to a server claiming that there is no other way better to update a game to me is a smoke cloud. I don't need anyone knowing my 'stats' of how the mission came out. If I want to play MP, I will. they should seriously reconsider what they are doing. It's only creating a large can of worms for them. OvS
