Sorry, I don't have those books. Are they on all factory issues D.Va's? We'd love to know. Personally, I've never noticed them on many, but hey, then again, I wasn't looking for them. Was that radiator a factory standard? If you have the info, let's hear it. :) OvS

As many of you have already read, AVSIM took a massive hit from a hack team and may have been completely wiped it out. As a simple extention of support, please stop by and let them know you are behind them in whatever manner you can. We're all in this together, as we're all flight enthusiasts, whether you're a MACH II Fighter Jock or a Wood and Fabric 'Crate' Flyer, lend then some support. http://linux.myalbemarle.org/forums/index.php For anyone that was a user of their file database, you know the extent of the loss is MASSIVE. Personally, I do, and it's a sad day to see it all gone. I hope they can recover from this. This is what it's all about. So please show some support! All the best, James 'OvS'

Thnaks for all the very kind words fellas... this is what 4+ years of dedicated work gives back to the public... something they can truely appreciate. :) Rayfer, go back and tell all the guys at Wargamer.com to come and give us a try. If they're getting tired of riding the Calvary in the dirt, try the Calvary in the sky. All the best, OvS

Correct. They lost it all. :angry2: :black eye:

LOL!! That was fun! I can't believe you remember that. :) I think it was Boelcke, MvR I thing I had walking away from everything Nazi and becoming a recluse. I don't remember, I should go back and read it all again for some fun memories. Rene Fonck, a fitting end. I based in on the demise of Rudolf Berthold who after the war, was over come by an angry crowd and stangled to death with the ribbon of his own Blue Max. Even though I knew Fonck survived the war, and lived well into the years beyond WWII, I just thought it would be funny to read that he was worked over with a 2x4 in the back alley of some sleezy French brothel for not paying his 'tab'. Definately a fair review. Why he had to mention RoF, I agree, but in the end, look like he made the right point about Gable, as Wayne never served in the Military... so that in itself is a very good compliment. OvS

I remember when I got the email from one of the more requent users.... it was like 'hey, have you seen the forum yet? It's dead'. And when I went to it, it was some stupid Turk crap all over it. Like why destroy a flight sim website? It makes no sense. If you want to make a point, attack, Pepsi, NASCAR, Playboy... etc. Not a flight sim forum. All that proves is that you're an amaturistic little penis! OvS

AWESOME!!!

Quite honestly, I prefer it to be what it is. The Germans lost because they ran out of men and good pilots. Even if you shot down Rene Fonck, it would not have had much effect, as you still had to contend with all the rest of the Entente lot. Also, many pilots to this day have been found to have had inadvertently stretched the truth with kill numbers... as written many times in the book Bloody April, Black September. So, for you to have had a personal effect on the war, you'd have to drop some serious ordnance on many targets over a short period of time. It just doesn't make sense to have had it end any other way. When I made the add-on patch 'Ressurection' for my Hells Angels patch, I did just that. I kept Boelcke, Immelmann, and MvR alive till the end and changed history. It was cool, but it still did not feel right to me... stupid almost. OvS

Widow, I like this design, it looks circa! Some friendly tips for you as I know you appreciate doing skins... 1. Dump your version of 'mauve', it's too purple. Use one of my OAW D.III's as a guide to a very close version of the German mauve. I did a ton of color comparisons and research. It's like a greyish, purple in tone. Remember to use the 'rose' trick I showed you and add in some shading to the over-all look of the paints. It makes them look sun-burned/weathered. Not too much, but definately a little. 2. Use the 'desaturation' on any color you chose that looks too bright. Right now, your green looks too bright, as does the purple and red. If you high light the whole fuselage, and play with the saturation, you'll see what I mean. The plane can be colorful, but not neon, if that makes sense. 3. Remember to take time and add some detail to the colors you place OVER the seams and stuff. In other words, add in the seams, and nail-holes. 4. There is a section in the skin, on the tail that needs to be painted as well. You can get rid of that missing color section under the rudder by doing that. All the best, OvS

Well... seeing that I work for a major international airline... I can say with a great sense of professional knowledge as a LISENCED CAA aircraft engineer... You get what you pay for...stupid is as stupid does... OvS PS... I actually saw these about a year or so ago when it actaully happened. But I don't like posting stuff like this for respect of those who like to fly/travel. I can tell you things that would make your skin turn white (from whatever color your starting out with). ;)

Olham, Got any info on that pic? Pilot, Jasta? It looks like a D.III. Also, keep in mind the RoF guys modeled some of their planes after Reproduction or Restoration planes. The Dr.1 cockpit from Memorial Flight is a good example of that. http://storage.mfa.free.fr/gallery/fokker/int2.jpg http://storage.mfa.free.fr/gallery/fokker/int31.jpg http://members.chello.nl/%7Ea.vankan/FokkerDr1_cockpit.jpg http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive/1a/ima...er_triplane.jpg - no site or flare gun http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/voss/F1-103-17-02.jpg - no site or flare gun vs RoF http://wwiaircombat.com/pics/displayimage....um=5&pos=13 Albatros D.Va http://www.airminded.net/albdv/mvr_alb.jpg - not there http://www.airminded.net/albdv/alb_dv_maxim.jpg - not there http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/w1/goodind5e.jpg - there http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive/1b/ima...berth_DV_x2.jpg - not there So, as you can see... it's the same problem we have. We choose 1 cockpit for all D.Va models so all of them have the same cockpit, regardless of field modifications, rank...etc. They chose to make the Dr.1 with the tube site, as well as a mounted flare gun, we didn't. They chose to have the sliding grill modification with the handle, we chose the pull-ring. So realistically, they have added things that might have been field mods, or place on planes used by an ace/flight leader (flare gun). We went with a more factory standard. OvS

My contribution to the OFF on-line Comic Book

Looks awesome! Great story, great job! OvS -
Good point, and 100% correct. Of all the war movies that have been made, those that have gotten it right, and conveyed the idea of the war with 90% accuracy... How the hell can they keep screwing up the easiest of the all... WWI. Even Band of Brothers was very believable and accurate. Nope... every WWI movie looks like a bad Playstation 3 game. Makes no sense. I wish we could make our own movie... or at least advise someone how it too. OvS

It was crap for authenticity... but a cool story line. 1. The Indian head is correct for the Laf Esc, but the Wasp was from Esc 98, and there were other insignias on there as well from other Escadrilles. The N17's looked like NASCAR paint jobs. 2. The N17 was past it's useful combat life when the Dr.1 was in it's heyday of early 1918. So it never would have faced it. N24, N27 maybe, but that was suicide. The Spad XIII was in service by then so that should have been the plane of choice. 3. No, not all Germans flew the Dr.1. Only select elite squadrons did when they were first made mobile on the front. Jastas 11, 12, 14, 18, 6, 4, and 2 to name a few were allocated as Dr.1 Jastas. Then they trickled down from there. And only 2 squadrons flew them with any red. One being Jasta 11 (obviously the Red Baron's own as well) and Jasta 18, which were red and white. I can keep going... but why. Don't watch it for authenticity... you're better off with The Blue Max, which was also a long-stretch, but very good. OvS

OFF BH&H, future: Work in Progress

Honestly, I'd lobby Pol and Winder like crazy not to include the Gotha or the E.V. Simply because the Gotha did not have a vast effect directly on the Front as compared to the LVG, Rumpler, Albatros type bombers... and for the E.V/D.VIII, I love it, but I'd rather see the skies of sothern France populated with the Pflaz D.XII. For the very limited amount of time the D.VIII was in service, it would not compare to the need we have of the Southern Jastas flying the Pflaz. I think Pol had a partially complete D.VIII hiding in the back of the hangar, so if it's something that he doesn't have to slave over, then go for it. But there are only 2 of us modeling now, so time well spent is time building planes that had a direct effect on the war. OvS PS... I can't wait to see that DH5 in action, that's such a cool looking plane. -
Did you notice Steve Anderson is listed as the Box Artist? Nice! He's got some really nice stuff over on the Aerodrome.com. Not as good as the King Dietz, but very good none-the-less. OvS

Yes, we can... and I think that's a home-made decal job. There is paper out there you can print on that makes decals. I read it on a website a few years back when I screwed up the Lozenge patterned decals on my 1/72nd scale Early D.VII. I wound up painting them in streak paint with Jasta 19 yellow and blue. I looked cool. All I need to make that pattern is the basic pattern itself. Once in PS, I can do it. :)

OFF BH&H, future: Work in Progress
OvS replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Also, to add to this. I posted a list based on my personal opinion and experiences with WWI modding. That list is by no means any indication of what we have planned. Many of the models are selected based on length of time in action, ability to be used by many squadrons, ease of model design (I can't imagine the time it would take to make the Zeppelin Staaken), etc. The Imperial Air Force used the same aircraft for a longer period of time than the Entente, so I would expect there to be more choices on the Entente side. They had more manufacturers, and more choices then the Germans did. A good example would be the Alb D.III vs the Neiuport series. The D.III fought the N.17, N.23, N.24 and in some cases even finshed with the N.27 in late 1917 before they introduced the D.V series into the lower skill rated Jastas. OvS -

Here is my short list of what we could use in OFF next Phase... or an add-on. These are based on popular use and longevity. Planes that had a 'lasting' impact for their time. Not just 'I want these' type of selection. Early War French: Voisin 5 Caudron G.IV Morane Bullet Morane Parasol Neiuport 10 and 12 German: Albatros C.I and C.III Aviatik C.I and C.II (sam plane just a more power engine) Albatros D.I Pflaz E.III Rumpler C.I Gotha G.III British: RAF FE.8 Vickers FB.5 Mid War French: Dorand AR1 Breguet Bre.14 Neiuport 24 and 27 Hanriot HD-1 German: AEG C.IV AEG G.IV SSW D.III Gotha G.IV Fokker D.IV Halberstadt CL.II British: Airco DH5 Armstrong Whitworth FK.8 Sopwith Dolphin Late War French: Nieuport 28 Caudron R.11 British: Airco / de Havilland DH.4 and DH.9 Handley Page O/400 Sopwith Snipe German: Albatros C.X Fokker D.VIII (E.V) SSW D.IV Pflaz D.XII Halberstadt CL.IV Junkers J.1 Junkers D.I Really, I'm not trying to be the 'end all expert' of what WWI Air Combat was all about, but I can say with my experiences that this list can be considered plenty (if not more than enough) of everything that would make the skies busy and plenty over the front throughout the length of the war. Keep in mind, many of the planes (especially the 2-seaters) you see above lasted over the course of the war. So they would not be phased out, just riding alongside other that are introduced. I don't think I forgot any. Adding in planes like the Zeppelin-Staaken R.VI I think would be over-the-top and take waaaaayyyy too long to produce, let alone, what effect if any, did they have on the war? Is it worth it? I based the list on effect and historical use. Maybe there are more, but honestly, I don't think they had an impact like those above. All the best, OvS
