Also, can you use a font like 'Sans Comic Strip', or Arial, or something else that is plain and readable in the ballons. The circa fonts are OK in the descriptions, but again, for reading, it's best to leave the artwork to the story and not the text the user reads. :) I used to draw a comic strip for my college newspaper way back in the day. So I have a little insight on this stuff. All the best, OvS

OT-And Now For Something Completely Different
OvS replied to Parky's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Man, don't be so technical! They recorded each session individually, then meshed it all together. Damn good stuff! That was awesome. Just proves no matter where we're from, or what language we speak, we are all the same. :) OvS -
I for one think 2-seaters are more important that the scouts. We have all the main 'players' for the scouts, barring 3 British planes (Snipe, DH5, Dolphin), 3 French planes (N.24, N.27, N.28) and maybe 4 German planes (Fokker D.VI, Fokker D.VIII, SSW D.III, Pflaz D.XII). We really need 2 seaters for both side spanning the entire war. Just imagine seeing the Caldron G.III or G.IV... or the Big Ack, the Rumpler, HP 0/400... etc. I'd rather see those rather than 10 more scouts. You have nothing to shoot at. OvS

I've seen it work on my end, just on default settings. Have you changed anything in OFF or CFS3? Nice website! I like the screen shot. Corsair... a personal favorite. OvS

I second that... it's the Celeron.

Yeah, go for it! Sounds like fun. I can't wait to see the results. :) OvS

Same here... what happens when you have to 'clean the tank'. No thanks.

Just keep posting there, and let them come to this forum and see for themselves. I don't know why people are so tuned into something that is not available, yet OFF is there, ready to go and now a finished product. I'll never understand how or the way people think. OvS

WWI Mass graves are now being excavated
OvS replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
You're not being harsh at all. I've been to the Flanders and Somme regions, and when you enter a cemetery, and see how many sites are 'Unknown but to God' it's really sad. If they can identify 200 of the 450, then that's 200 children that their familes have now found. Remember, they were mostly kids who lied to join the service thinking it would be 'fun'. Hopefully they can identify them all. OvS -
Combat Ace skin Contest for OFF: Win a 23" Dell Monitor for best skin!
OvS replied to MK2's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I think the contest is over, so I am closing this thread. :) OvS -
Yes, they are in 1.30c. You need to download and install that patch anyway, so it tags along. They look very good. Anything more than that would look like sidewinder missles coming from your guns. OvS

Advice for a newbie bomber pilot
OvS replied to Hasse Wind's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Let them shoot. You're able to jink and side-slip the plane better than the AI in front seat. Bombing... well.. there is no site, as there wasn't any back then, so use the down view, press F3 to drop the cockpit graphics, and give it you best shot. Keep in mind you are not looking directly down, but slightly ahead. You can still control the plane as well. I've gotten some decent success with that method. Another is to look down from outside... and try it. HTH! OvS -

Chris, when you get a chance, post all of your map links into a new post (name it whatever you like). I'd like to have them all in one thread and pin it so that everyone can have access to them.... rather than search for each one. Thanks, OvS

I'd like to just answer this real quick... WM originally started this project and while it took it's course, he ran the gambit of guys that jumped in, and jumped out. Some promised the world, and left him with nothing. So it was already an uphill battle for him to get it off the ground, but he hung in there and kept going. As time went on (years), we weeded down to only 10 and we worked at a feverish pace. We hoped it would be something that would sell, our intention was to do that, but also allow us to have lives as well. You see, we are all married, have families, jobs, etc, some of us have jobs that take us away from home, and one of us is still in school. So those aspects were important to our survival as well, maybe not to some people in this thread, but it was to us. We had to make this project worthwhile but not upset our home lives. We did that, and we are all happy with the results...maybe not ecstatic, but happy. Heck, if it's a cottage industry, really, it's our choice, and no one should be concerned about it other than us. A few good reviews is all it takes to spark sales, and really, it's all we need. We're not loosing sleep over it, because none of us have gotten divorced over it, none of us have lost jobs over it, and we work well with each other and support one-another... like gentlemen do. So to us, no matter where this goes, we're successful... be it as a hobby, or a business. And on a personal note... I am proud to say I now have 10 friends all over the world that I am happy to have met and spent many hours with by email, phone, skype... etc. I personally could not ask for more than that. I am happy... money can't buy that. OvS

Let me just add this, and really, and this point, it's getting old hat now.. We're now 8 guys... down 2 from 10. We accomplished something that many have failed: that is, making a working, well-designed, accurate and life-like WWI sim. For years prior to BHaH it was attempted, and failed over and over again. It is an ENORMOUS task that unless you are on a Dev team building it, you'll never really know. I don't need to express the details involved, but I can tell you, it's a long list that took so long because that's how long it takes. This isn't a WWII arena style FPS... this is a living, breathing environment filled to the rim with pilots that actually 'live' in the game... not just random AI guys that are tragets for you to shoot. As far as selling, we did what we thought was the best descision based on several emails and discussions we had over many months. We did what we thought best for the team, and for the users. Yes, we wanted to see it on the shelves, and make a bazillion dollars each, retire... etc... but reality set in and we realized that it's a mod, for an otherwise hated, and old WWII game. Did it stop us, hell no, but we knew from the start that selling it over the shelves would be a problem as you still needed CFS3 to play it. So we moved on, and we decided that for us, this was the best way... KISS... Keep It Small and Simple. A nice cottage instead of an over-bearing mansion. Remember, we also have to support it. We needed it all.. support email, time, website, help... etc.. all coming from now 8 guys spread all over the entire world... never once sitting next to one another.... that alone is a story to write about!! So to end this conversation, yes, it would be nice to have a larger piece of the game market, but WWI sims are a small niche, with thankfully a very dedicated fan base. So if this is what it is, it's good, and we're thankful for it. We can't ask for more. Let's see what happens in another year... most PC games are dead and gone in 6 months... if BHaH lasts a year... we really beat the odds. I think it will, and I think it'll be around a lot longer than that. OvS

Wait till you see what they look like... you'll wanna reach in and grab them. :)

It does help to have a squadron mate's name, no rank needed, just the name. Other than that, the rest of the info is up to you. It helps increase the accepted factor, but still does not guarantee it. ;) Hey... Stachel was denied his first kill too.... UNCONFIRMED!!! OvbS

You can choose a skin, but the whole Jasta (aside from aces that have skins) will fly it. It's a CFS3 restriction that we hope someday we can get around. Barring that, you'll be too busy to notice your personal skins anyway... ;) Enjoy, and come back with your thoughts on it. All the best, OvS

And the worst part is, Phase 3 completely blows away Phase 2... it's a whole new game! Tony, PM me and maybe you could point me in the right direction to talk to someone over there? Thanks, OvS
-
Exactly! You said it better than I ever could. :)

Who said I was disagreeing with you ... ;) Truthfully, it's not my call, it's Winder's. Aside from all the artwork, the models, the info... etc.. he made it all work. Without him, OFF would still be a dream. So if he wants to use a publisher, it's his call... we just follow suit and back him up. :) At one point, we tried, and the details were not in our favor after spending so much time on it. I think he made a good choice. Maybe our thinking will change... maybe not. I'm just glad we put out something that really kicks a$$. We couldn't ask for more than that. OvS

No, yours would be Roasted... ugh... I just couldn't resist... get it? .. Duck.. roasted... ahhh.. shoot me. ;) OvS

Matt, I've been modding WWI games for 10 years now (RB3D, WoW and OFF). Believe me, we are hobbyists having a great time and doing what we do best. Any one of us could become professional and run the gambit, but it's not just all about the artwork as it is more about getting it all together. WWI is a hug task to put together, correctly. It's about dedication to the core of the design, not so much about making a sellable game. In the past, over and over again, the dedication faltered and so did the game. There have been plenty of attempts that failed. Believe it or not, RB3D failed, however, was kept alive and rebuilt to perfection by all the modders. For OFF, Winder did a great job of keeping it all together, and seeing it all through to the very end. Almost every idea we talked about, or he came up with went into the game. We really worked hard, but he worked even harder. Once Phase 2 received such high marks, our intent was always to make a sellable game, as long as it was something we could be tuely pround of. But our intent was also to do it with passion, depth, accuracy and respect for what WWI really was. Still, there is no way I would consider myself a professional game maker. Although we do have a 'company', we still are like a garage band. We play really good, we have fun, we play some gigs here and there and have a great fan base. But in the end, the big contract has not come across to us yet. Hopefully, someday it will. If it were that easy to jump out of my job and start new, believe me... I'd be the first to weigh that anchor on the ship. But RL, and today's economy (and I live in Long Island, NY $$) dictate that I have to work to keep my family afloat. Somehow, I get the feeling I'd be sleeping alone in a cold bed if one day I came home and said, 'Honey, I quit my job to gamble on making games!' I enjoy this, but our market is small and has been for the simple reason that OFF is the 1st true, in-depth WWI simulator for commercial release in 10 years. So there is plenty of apprehension, and wonder in the minds of those that don't know about the thrills of WWI Air Combat. Perhaps OFF will take-off some day (pardon the pun), but for now, it's a great hobby to me and I love making it a fun experience. Would I like to make it a real job and dedicate all my time to it... Hell yes!! But I can't... 9 hr job, house to fix and pay for, car to build, kid to raise... etc.. etc.. etc.. I'm not 20 anymore, my responsiblity list out weighs the fun-time list now. It's that simple. So I trust Winder and Pol that we'll make the best of whatever opportunity comes our way, and hope someday it does break wide open. :) OvS

No denying it, you're 100% right Tony. I'll pass that on to Winder and Polovski to contemplate ... I'm just a cog. :)
