I've put together a .rar file with all the mods we're using to fly MP. Right now, that means the Gotha, the weapons and pylons for it, the Zeppelin, and the searchlights mod. We can update that single file periodically to always have everything necessary to fly without problems. It isn't a self installer (sorry....maybe someone else can tackle that), but it does have all of the files used at the present time in MP and the readmes will walk you through the process. Installing these files will NOT affect your standalone game, and will NOT cause problems if someone hosts missions that don't use them (unless they also DON'T have them in their game). Here's where to get the file: MP Aircraft.rar link

I've taken the liberty of adding a .rar file on the downloads section (Aircraft Models) called MP.rar that contains everything you need that we've been using lately to fly MP together. It contains two aircraft models, the Gotha and the Zeppelin, and the pylons and weapons for the Gotha. It also contains the searchlights and sirens from the "Gothas along the Thames" mission by RAF_Louvert, which the boys fly regularly. You can find the file here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=9109 {I added this file in order to make it convenient for others to get what they need to join MP, but if doing so is a problem for anyone involved in making these files, just let me know and I'll take it down). As Stump says, we often fly stock (with just hard core damage), but these are the files we sometimes use. Having them installed will not affect your ability to join when we fly stock. But when we use these files, you must have them to join.

File Name: MP Aircraft File Submitter: griphos File Submitted: 31 May 2009 File Category: Aircraft Models This .rar contains the aircraft needed to play MP. It contains the Gotha and the Zeppelin and also the Gotha weapons and pylons files. There are readmes for each. But basically, you put the Gotha and Zeppelin folders into your CFSWW1/Over Flanders Fields/aircraft folder. The installation of the weapons and pylons is a little more complicated, but the readme is clear. Follow it and you'll be good to go. It also includes the Searchlights part of the "Gothas along the Thames" mission since that mission is flown regularly. Click here to download this file

Oh yeah. I have heard that echo. So the echo is basically the repetition of everyone through your fraps recorder, I guess. Yeah, I don't know how you'd work around that. Sort of like having a built in speaker echoing everything everyone says. Which is what it does. Still, nice videos. I really enjoyed that mission. I thought everyone stayed together very well, considering there were quite a few new(ish) MP folks. You were cracking me up with that "stay still." Did you notice where your nose was pointing?

Hey Duck! Thanks for posting those. You got a great shot of the tight formation of Alpha8, Madmatt and I. Too much fun to fly with live pilots in formation on the way to battle! I'm going to have to get Fraps! I wonder why it only recorded your voice and not all the sounds. What a great session today.

Very interesting. Do you think that the fleece on those was white when they made it?

That explains the grimace on his face! -
Chaos49, I don't think that will do it. I think there are files related to pilots and logs that are placed outside the game folder that would conflict with older saved files from these folders if they are just plopped back in again.

Quick Question on Lone Wolf Missions
griphos replied to Bandy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Like Rickity, I've often seen stuff going on that wasn't happening where my mission path was supposed to take me. I don't have many pictures of it. But on the screenshots sticky, I posted one of a convoy under attack: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=270647 As I said there, there appears to be a whole war going on! I think you'll notice that no matter where over the front you fly (not just along the mission path), you find artillery going off. I ALWAYS see trains and convoys and often men marching. I went on a bit of a kick about driving the Model T around until I realized you can't cross bridges or rivers with it. I kept trying to find a way into some big city so I could drive around. Anyway, on the way, I usually saw lots of activity. There's a lot happenin' in this sim while we're busy following that little pale blue line. I used to climb to about 10,000 so I could spot and dive on enemy, but I've lately gotten to where I stay down around or below 5000 (sometimes half that) and just look around to see what I can see. -

Little Details You Look For in a Sim?
griphos replied to SirMike1983's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Speaking of the little writing on the "tyres" I've got a pic in the screenshots section of a Nupe which took off during rain and there's mud on it's tires. Gotta love that! -
G'day to All (NOOB ALERT)
griphos replied to Tripe & Flaming Onions's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Welcome aboard. As a fellow IL2'er, I can tell you that you this sim is a completely different experience, mod-wise. There are skins you can download, but the fellows who built this have already included thousands for you (yes, thousands!). As for missions, I think the heart of OFF is the campaign, and it is a doozy. You'll find a kind of immersion here I've not ever found in IL2. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE flying MP coop missions in IL2, but the campaign in OFF, where you enlist a pilot (repeatedly...after being killed over and over again!) and get to know your AI wingmen and squad mates and work through a war that has been recreated with almost fanatical historical faithfulness will get you sweating and exulting in new ways, I think. The scenery is incredible, and the creak of the wood and fabric wings as you stress them to their limits trying to get back on the tail of the Alb.DIII that just passed you will make you almost feel the wind against your face and smell the castor oil smoke blowing by your cockpit! As a long-time simmer (and hopefully experienced with the full realism FMs in IL2), I encourage you to fly something like the DiD standard here with realistic FM. No need to be too finicky about it to start, but I've found that flying without much in the way of distractions really puts me in the sim, and makes me be a better pilot making better decisions about when and where to engage. As you can tell, I think this sim is fantastic. I only fly it and IL2 MP coop (poor FSX just sits there all lonely on my hard drive now). And I've not found anything that compares to this one in terms of immersion and accuracy and an absolute wealth of wonderful little details. You're going to have fun! -
Great videos! (Although they seem to demonstrate the opposite of what is described on the wiki entry you list above...but like I said, what you show in the video as a side-slip is what most pilots call a side-slip, I think.) At any rate, it's the top video that demonstrates what I think most sim pilots will find useful for getting the crate down from too high and shows just how far to the side your nose can be pointing from your track across the ground. This is a pretty sharp slip where a lot of altitude is lost rapidly without increase in speed. Try to make your crate look like this. As you can see in the video, rudder is applied first (well, in this case, applied while banked in a turn...so the same thing), and then aileron thrown in to achieve the track you desire. You drop quickly and stay slow. This is also useful for when you're not too high, but are coming in too fast. You pull the nose up more and use the slip to bleed speed quickly. And isn't that a pretty little L-4?!
-
I wondered if anyone would mention the diff between the two. Thanks WF2. I think it might help newbies to understand that one usually uses the side-slip (although lots of pilots call ANY kind of slip a side-slip) to land straight down the runway in a cross-wind. It's much harder to do correctly, I think. You basically control the three inputs to exactly offset the amount the wind is pushing you to one side of the runway in a crosswind landing. I don't do it well. I usually crab, with the exciting kick her straight with rudder right before landing ending! The forward slip is the one most of our sim pilots will use (and they can call it whatever they like  ). And it's important to know, as several have pointed out, that your nose will NOT be pointing where you are heading. Basically, the nose will be pointing to whichever side of your "track" that you've got rudder input. So, when you set up for this, coming in high and maybe a little hot, you chop throttle (or I do, since speed is always controlled in landing by attitude of nose...up for slower and down for faster...and rate of descent by throttle, and since you're too high, you don't need throttle to control descent...you do that with how much slip you crank in). So, you point the nose to one side or the other with rudder (doesn't matter, but I tend to slip right) and drop the opposite wing enough to keep yourself flying straight down the line to land. This means you will be looking sideways a bit over the nose at the track you are flying and as you get to the flare, you let off rudder smoothly to bring your nose back in line with your track and straighten the wings and land. Tada! OFF models this very well. It's fun. For the whole family. Try it! That was intended to help clarify things. I hope at least I didn't confuse things. It would be a lot clearer with a little video. Maybe this will be the impetus I need to finally download FRAPS and try it out. A little slipping tutorial video would be nice. Maybe we can build a set of tutorial videos! I'd like to see some gunnery videos. That would help folks out.

Winder, Pol, may we have one of these please?

Forget the guns. Just add long knives to the ends of the wings, and I'll shred all the enemy planes! Any my N17 does drop its left wing on takeoff, but THAT'S ridiculous! -

So...just wondering again....Would the guy that replaces this guy be Captain B.K.N.G Fortescue-Smythe-Templeman....or A.L.N.G. Fortescue-Smythe-Templeman...or A.K.O.G...... (man, I'm tired of writing THAT name already!) I'm also guessing the guys in the squad have a real cute nickname for this fellow! -
Okay, first we have Princess Bride allusions. Now, Mel Brooks! Ham, just hit Enlist New Pilot over on the bottom right of the Pilot Dossier screen and sign up with the same info you used the first time if you want. You don't have to reinstall. You can have as many pilots as you like, even at the same time.

What comes after Z? (I'm just wondering because I'm not sure 26 pilots will be enough!) -
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. I just had to play to! Love that movie!

WESTLEY I mean, what are the three terrors of the Fire Swamp? One, the flame spurts. No problem. There's a popping sound preceding each, we can avoid that. Two, the Lightning Sand. But you were clever enough to discover what that looks like, so in the future we can avoid that too. BUTTERCUP Westley, what about the R.O.U.S.'s? WESTLEY Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist...

That's an excellent strategy. I just lost my DiD pilot (punctured fuel line and landing on the wrong side of the front lines...POW for the duration...and he was less than a mile from the front!!!). I'm going back to 8 RNAS and take up where Stan left off. After finishing the war in this squad, I'll join up again in RFC 56. This will be great! And I'll finally get to fly something besides N17s and Pups!
