  1. Hello, well there are currently celebrations in Berlin - french président Sarkozy is currently speaking - and what i find especially unbelievable is, what's happening in Paris ! Thanks !! We have sure come a long way ... and it would not have been possible without Gorbatschow, and the east german people. The then west-german chancellor Kohl was not really involved, but certainly tried to convince the people it had all been his idea afterwards lol - ridiculous politicians. I especially remember how Maggie Thatcher was not really happy about this happening, in fact she looked like getting a heartache and wanted to stop this by all means - it just happened too quickly. I cannot remember what i was doing when the wall fell, but it was - despite all that happened before - a complete surprise. We hoped all the time it would not come to shootings .. the Stasi (east german state security, direct subordinate of the SED dictatorship) along with the east-german border police seemed not to have any orders on how to react ! The russian KGB headquarters in Berlin were on the brink of being charged, Stasi headquarters were broken open against resistance of Stasi officers, but no shot fell. And then, it just happened. Greetings, Catfish
  2. " ... Much to his surprise, Professor Dr. M., while tidying up his desk, discovered the ruins of an ancient roman settlement ..." But really, your desk looks much more tidy than mine :) Greetings, Catfish
  3. Calling all Alb Drivers!

. oops, i posted a lengthy text, but it's all gone grrr. Sorry It should be able to perform barrel rolls without problems, it wasn't THAT bad. Breaking lower wings did not happen due to too excessive g loads, but due to very high speeds in a dive, when the surface of the lower wing would start to "wobble" due to harmonic vibrations, around the point where the lower V-strut was attached to the wing. Maybe you received a monday production piece ? I never come as far as to sometimes get the D.Va, i usually die months earlier in a D.III lol Greetings, Catfish
  4. Disturbing Kills

Hello, really felt sorry for the pilot .. It's only a game, a game ... Here it was ME who got killed (very disturbing lol) by german AA/FlaK - gave a bad bump in my FFB joystick, short afterly the plane rolled slowly to the left, and then went vertically down - no chance to regain control with all controls dead ... 1. Archie ahead - oh oh .. 2. Now what was that "boom" ?! Greetings, Catfish
  5. Sounds in 1.32

Hello, i experienced that the sound of my wingmen's engines, along with the sound of enemy a/c, do not slowly blend in, but are suddenly there, and clearly audible. When the distance of other a/c increases, the audible sound vanishes very sudden, from a well-audible roar, to nothing. Don't know if it is my settings, or intended, or not possible to change ? Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  6. Hello, now there's that excellent Zeppelin, if not yet usable in campaign, but does anyone remember whether there existed any manual to fly it ? Or, even better has a link to, or text file of said manual ? The second one is excellent (and certainly not from me), Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  7. Hello Pappy55, you wrote: Don't know whether one from the OFF team asked Greg Law about the Zeppelin since OFF phase 3 was getting commercial ...Greg did that for CFS3, and OFF phase 1, or 2. And then this is only one early model or type, from lots of being built, so if it shall be as historically exact as the other a/c types and skins in OFF, one would need several types to appear at the right time. But then the L30 at least made it through the whole war, so it could appear anywhere, even if most Zeppelins and Schuette-Lanz rigid airships were broken up, had accidents or were shot down. " ... Even if there were not many of them ..." Well, there were more airships (102 (?) including naval and army types) built during the war, than e.g. the Fokker D.VIII monoplanes, and the few delivered (85 ?) D.VIIIs made it into the game, if as add-on (and if only because womenfly2 wanted it so much lol). But modeling a whole Zeppelin, with gunning stations, gondolas, engines etc. is certainly a lot of work. I think it would be worth it ... i already proposed to deliver plans and info, sure would like to see at least one type in OFF to be usable in campaign. Greetings, Catfish
  8. Hello. just started a campaign with the BE2c (i think), in early 1917. Now i can start, and fly (also shot down a Halberstadt D.II lol), but i will always hang back from my wingmen sooner or later, regardless how i tune my engine (lean mixture etc.), and after a while (mostly happens above enemy territory) the revolutions begin to drop, and i will have to land, and the engine conks out. When i have landed, i start the engine (automatic start), and it will often not even start, and if i will never again reach the speed for take off. Additonally, above the target i have no possibilities to drop my bombload. There are bombs visible below the Quirk's nose, and they were mentioned in the mission briefing (bomb a railyard), but i cannot drop them. The original buttons do not work, and the other which i assigned to the joystick, do not work either. What am i doing wrong ? Hmm, have there been changes in the last patch ? Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  9. Hello Winder, my answer was a bit rude, and it indeed read as if i blamed OFF for this - sorry, my apologies You wrote: " ... If you try to set the settings higher than what CFS3 believes you can run it with your hardware, CFS3 'sometimes' decides to reset them... " " ... Finally by setting your configsoverride.xml file to 'read only' stops CFS3 from ever changing it! ..." Now this really helps, thanks ! And no, i did not know this ... " ... This has been a well documented CFS3 issue back in that day but assuming you are a newbie its worth mentioning again. ..." touché lol I am no newbie with OFF or so i thought, but i never entered the higher degrees of the CFS3 Zen masters, i really was not interested in the original CFS3 . As long as i did not run into problems ... Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  10. Hello, the L 30 Zeppelin is still downloadable along with missions, here at Combatsim.com, but there seems to be no manual. It was made by Greg Law, who back then gave his allowance to use it in OFF. I remember a russian (?) forum member (but not from combatsim.com) who once said something about how to get airborne etc., but i did not find the text i copied back then. It was something like a "take-off guide" to fly the Zepp. Flying is easy enough (no ailerons though, just rudder and elevator, and without being able to vent gas or drop ballast, you can only fly it dynamically, which makes the landing a bit difficult, to say at least - those Aerodromes have a short runway if trying to land dynamically lol), however i am looking for some guide to land it ahem. Landing somewhere else than an aerodrome has bad side effects, the OFF landscape is very unpleasant, terrain is much too hard to land on (major bug lol). The Zeppelin for CFS3 is the LZ 62, naval designation L30, and was the first of a new series of an improved type, called "Super-Zeppelins" by the british. From Wikipedia " ... [L30] First of the "Super-Zeppelin" Class, it had a volume of 55,200m³. 10 raids on England dropping 23,305 kg bombs (however causing limited damage due to poor sight); 31 reconnaissance missions above the North and Baltic Sea and at the Eastern Front; retired on November 17, 1917 and laid up at Seerappen. In 1920 ordered to be transferred to Belgium in the context of war reparations, where it was disassembled. Some components, including an engine car, are preserved at the Royal Army and Military History Museum, Brussels. ..." an OFF video with some Zepps, not from me (all the same L30 model, but great): now wouldn't it be nice to have something like this in OFF, and used in campaigns, be it to be shot down, or to fly it (L 32 here): http://img67.imagesh.../527/016zp1.jpg Some other sights of this model can be found here: http://img67.imagesh...s/i/016zp1.jpg/ Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  11. Hello Pol, thanks for taking the time. I did not say the dev team magically deleted files, it is just that exactly this has happened to me before, on another PC prior to the one i use now. Some buttons re-assigned by me did not work one day, and even if i tried to change some assignments back to the ones i usually use in the control settings, it would not work. Since this xca file is stored in the user-dependent directory (yes i was logged on with the same username) below documents and settings there is a faint chance that some system re-organisation has dumped or deleted it (?). There is usually a directory "CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields" with subfolders, but all files in the upper one along with those sub folders were gone. "This is the first thing I think of, if I have something odd happen with ANY program. Do not assume it's the program instantly and therefore affects the world - PC's are too flaky and different to assume that. " Amen to that, i just thought that there is someone who might have any far-fetched idea of what's going on - Winders remarks are sometimes a bit "corrosive" I thought about Spybot SD, or maybe an M$ update to screw things up, i never said it was the sim - the idea of an OFF update that might have changed anything, was just a question. Anyway it is all working now, after a de-, and reinstallation. But since you are here, could you please tell me whether an engine quitting in the BE2c may be due to too lean mixture, or revving too high for too long, or in a dive ? Maybe i am beginning to see things, but my BE2c aircooled engine did die twice under me, and trying to restart it with full mixture. magnetoes on, battery on did not work. Anyway reading about this bird and its career it seems this might be modeled quite accurately lol. Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  12. Hello, great sceenshot ! The landscape is unbeatable, in OFF. Now where's the money for my new gtx 285 ... Greetings, Catfish
  13. OT (WW2) The Great Escape

Hello, like Olham (and many others here) i am also thankful to the US to help free the population of the dictatorship, and spare the world from something worse to happen. This time, it was worth it. And they did not stop there, but supported Berlin with the airlift, against being sacked by the Soviet Union, and also helped building up the economy again. England also helped directly after the war, and we will also never forget this. Also let us not forget what General McArthur did with Japan, right after the war being won. You can say what you want about what he did and decided later, but he was a great man in the true sense of the word. re the escape, i thought that while prisoners were "allowed to be shot on the run", it was surely forbidden to kill them after catching them by international law. Very bad, but that's what Germany was all about then. Some isolated incidents and events of correct or even forgiving behaviour sometimes blur what happened in 99 percent of the time. Gretings, Catfish
  14. Hello, ok, found it out after a de-install and a new installation. If you save your own control buttons as the suggested "mine" in the control settings menu, the settings will be stored at : C:\Documents and settings\insert your username\Application data\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields, the file name is "mine.xca" here. It was not there before ... will try whether i can now drop some bombs with button 3, or Enter. Edit: Mr. Prop-wash, thanks you beat me to it ! The pre-installed keys also seem to reside in this directory, named "CFS3.xca". There's also a key config file at C:\Programs\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields directory, called "Flight Simulator.xca" What's strange is that with the last install i could change certain buttons, and save it as "mine", but this file would not appear in said directory, and those re-programmed buttons would (logically) fail to work in the sim. Greetings, Catfish
  15. Hi, "HTH" ? No it doesn't. Is there still a "mine" file with the key commands stored ? Or better, should there be one ? That the graphic settings sometimes "automatically" change has also been observed before, not only by me. And if eventual MS updates or whatever can screw up the OFF installation, it should be probably mentioned ? Well maybe not, if it helps you. Greetings, Catfish
  16. Hi Siggi, thanks - well up to the last patch there should be this "mine.xla" (or *.xca (?)) there, because this is where your keyboard commands are stored - would explain why some of your keys don't work anymore, as it is the case with my game. This is unfortunately one of the files that sometimes vanish - But maybe this changed with the last patch ? No more mine.* file necessary ? Maybe one of the devs could say something about it ? Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  17. Hello Siggi, would you pllease be so kind and look into your \programs\OBD\Over Flanders Fields directory, whether a "mine.xla" file is still there ? Re 77scout. there have been numerous posts dealing with disappearing files in the past, be it CFS3 alone, or OFF, so even if it certainly IS my computer or software that makes them disappear HERE, it seems this error is reproducable, and happens now and then. If we could find out what is responsible for this strange behaviour (UncleAl, like me, also experienced graphic setting changes without actually changing anything by hand), it would sure help a few people. Maybe it was because i once switched to desktop from the OFF manager, and then back ? The original CFS3 did not like this if i remember right - could it have something to do with that ? Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  18. Hello, first thanks, so engine damage due to wrong mixture is really implemented in the sim ? I have never heard of this before ... and it sure does not affect the Roland C.II "Walfisch", or any other plane. Engine problems due to enemy fire happen, but ... 2nd problem, i realized that the file that is responsible for "which button does what", "mine.xla", has misteriously vanished. This has happened before, but it has been a year - I sure did not delete it, and i am also sure it was not deleted by my Antivir software. As well my graphics settings decide at some point to "reset", or change their values ? What is going on here ?? Now i do not know which other files have vanished, but this begs for a complete re-install, and i hate this. This sim seems to have some strange features. Greetings, Catfish
  19. Hi RAF_Louvert, Now i know ... You know those Romans never conquered the whole "Germany", so there's something that "escaped us" lol. But then, what did they introduce ? Sewers ? Aqueducts ? Streets ? Civilization ?? A logical language ??? Bahhh Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  20. Hello, sorry a bit OT, but can anyone tell me what this "bis" means at all ? I know several planes had this additional description, for another type, and even Santos-Dumont used this for some of his planes - but what does it mean ? (better and improved specimen ? ) Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  21. Hello, great to hear ! from the list i like the following most: (insert all 17 points and the minor tweaks here lol) Now there are two questions left: ETOA, and the price .. Thanks and greetings, Catfish P.S. seems i was a bit late lol
  22. Hello, this is an english poem from 2004 sent to me by Harry, describing a Zeppelin raid on the city of Folkestone in 1917. Now i know what it is about, but not the exact meaning of some idioms. So if some english-speaking person could assist ... ? The exact german translation is not necessary, but the description of some idioms like "see it through", or "join the potato queue" ? It seems the poem is about a Zeppelin raid, the Folkestone inhabitants expected no attack in WW1 because local fishermen had helped german sailors when their ship "Grosser Kurfuerst" sank in the channel near Folkestone, in 1878 (a bit like in Hannover when they hoped England would not bomb them in WW2, because of the old british Kingdom of Hannover). Now the civilian victims of WW1 lie next to the perished sailors, at Cheriton Road Cemetary, Folkestone. Cheriton Road A glint in the sky for Florrie and all the others Calm spring evening look up high see the glint in the sky grab the kids and see it through go and join the potato queue Crashing sounds are getting near but surely there is nothing to fear those zeps it´s said have had their day we´ve gone blown them all away Anyway, Germans, no surely not they promised not to bomb us lot we fished their boys out from the deep and in Cheriton road they lie asleep Busy in thought inside the store Florrie stares patiently at the door soon it´ll be time for walking home via viaduct and gas holder home And as the children continue to play outside their mothers begin to nervously hide expect for those queuing at Stokes´s shop upon whom the roof comes crashing down on top Now ninety long years have since flown the prayers have faded on their stones and for them we can only stand and weep as in Cheriton Road they lie asleep Martin Easdown, 2004 Thanks and greetings, Catfish
  23. Hello, thank you all for the answers .. and the links posted - sobering. And so this has obviously not been an airship, but a heavier-than-air bomber raid. I had looked for a Zeppelin being above England at that date, but had not found anything, but then the lists of german raids/missions are all else than complete. Thanks i will translate and send it back, with a link to your comments, Greetings, Catfish
  24. Windows 7

    Just ask Micro$oft: Greetings, Catfish
  25. Hello, what great recordings, both of them ! I would like to see this buffalo scene, only with some greedy bank managers and their customers lol Greetings, Catfish
