Flyby PC replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Excellent idea RAF_Louvert. I've spent a few hours looking at pictures here - http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive1.htm .... and of course - http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/games-fl...flight-sim.html The wierd thing about WW1, is that I feel that I should know such a lot more about it than I actually do. Personally, I find it's depressingly easy to come across whole subject areas which I simply knew nothing about. -
Good call OVS, and good luck. It's hard to keep up with so much traffic - and I'm just reading them. Seems like you wait five minutes and another new topic is disappearing onto page 2.

When I started out simming, I was sure my PC had enough grunt to cope, but when I went online flying with the MOG guys, my FPS were never great, and once the action started, my flight became a slide show. My frames would freeze, and when they started again I had often already crashed, or even worse, crashed, re-spawned and crashed again. Sometimes I would wreck half the AI wingmen aircraft which was very frustrating to me and fellow players. To cut to the chase, the MOG guys were very knowledgeable, and took me through a process of upgrading my PC, tweaking it, and step by step upgrading the hardware. I put in more RAM, I put in a new video card, I tested the cooling, I surveyed the wattage use, and even upgraded my power unit. All of this was a superb education, but didn't nail the problem of my framerates dropping away. (A good point I need to add is trusting your labels - Just because a power unit says it cranks out 300W, doesn't mean it actually does). On paper, my CPU was 1.2 ghz or something, I forget now, - but on paper that should have been enough. My CPU was a 'Celeron' chip, and therein lay the problem. The Celeron chip (now correct me if I'm wrong) was never intended to be a gaming chip, and it's performance catered for business use. On paper it was fine, but CFS3 was taking it to the limit. Eventually I was cured. - New PC, which actually did a lot more, but cost less than the old one.

You can check if your trackir is getting too much reflection by opening trackir, selecting 'view' then 'tracking'. You will now be able to see what your motion trackir can 'see'. If you see three green lights corresponding to the three reflectors on your cap / headset, then all is well. If you see more than three reflections, or larger expanses of red or green shapes, then your Motion trackir is picking up additional and unwanted light reflection from somewhere. It might be a window, sunshine, a bulb reflecting on a door, or even the safety stripes on a high-viz jacket. All this extra 'noise' confuses the trackir, which can no longer rationalise the movement of one reflector relative to another, and your trackir will be freaking out as a result.

Just a suggestion, but it might be something overheating. Try taking the side of your pc off, hoover the dust off your cooling fins etc, and try a flight with the side off. Your FPS might be dropping because the heat is reducing efficiency. There is also a site where you can download a utility to check your PC's temperatures, but the name of it was lost with the SOH meltdown. Speedfan rings a bell, but I forget. That might monitor your wattage.

Minor check, you could try disabling the movie intro. Won't fix your problem, but might get you in the air. Also, are you running CFS3config before you start your new installation?

Looking great, and enjoying my OFF3 WM & team. Haven't got the spare time I used to have, but once I'm up to speed I hope to get right on board. Very much like what I see so far. - Work of the highest order. Deepest apologies if this isn't the right protocol for reporting issues, (I'm not up to date yet), but I do have a rather small 'i' for you to dot - my 'attacking infantry' appear to be running backwards. Might be shell shock of course ....... I hadn't thought of that. No fix required, but I thought you'd like to know.

Excellent!!! Got busted by the copyright police a while ago for using tracks on a few youtube clips. (Well not exactly busted, but two vids were reported so I pulled the rest before I got into trouble. Funny thing is, when you start doing vids, you actually realise what an immense difference the right music has over what you're trying to say, and I actually respect copyright issues more than ever. Your own theme seems to fit OFF like a glove and encapsulates that period in history perfectly, and being allowed to use it will surely put some fun into making more clips.

Big salute Matt! Love the theme tune! To get right to the point, can you tell me copyright status and whether or not you'd object to the theme appearing in one or two OFF3 Youtube videos?

Hi Guys, big Hi from the old Flyby. My goodness, how the world turns.... Wishing you fellas well for all your future developments. I'm just catching up with all what's happened with regards the SOH, and have to say it seems bizarre to say the least, but the move gets my vote of approval...
