  1. What? They DONT already work for NASA?! ZZ.
  2. Sweatin in the Cold Thin Air

Hehe, sounds like the account of the fight between Udet and Guynemere. At least I think it was Udet. Although they were locked in head on passes instead of a death spiral, the vibe was the same, one above, one below, each staring up into the others cockpits. Each trying desperately to get purchase on the other. ZZ. Oh yeah...then Udet's guns jammed!! Reaaaal bad timing.
  3. Excellent Insight Creaghorn, I must try this High Density setting for myself...sounds fabulous. I just jacked mine up to medium last week on a lark, and was pleased, but this sounds even better! A question: Do those here think its more accurate to fly at the "middle altitude" setting (10k) or the high...18000, which seems a bit unusual for regular sorties. I would think keeping it at 10k mostly, with some occaisional 18k missions, (switching back and forth) would be the most historically accurate. Any opinions? And finally....I'm a Hunter at heart, and usually pursue that route, but as others mention here, "all plans change with first contact with the enemy", and I think that is why (and only one of many reasons why) OFF is so realistic, because that is actually real-life accurate. Usually my hunting plans work (as planned) when I'm left to my own devices, but, when you have a mission with set paramaters for success, you often change your normal behaviour to accomodate it, and this is where you can get pulled into some non-Hunter like suprise-activity. Also, when you are an Unter-Offizier, you follow your squad leader..(at least I do to make things more realistic, you aren't gonna go traipsing off from your squad willy nilly when you are a plebe....unless you wanna get your arse handed to you when you land!!) So often in these cases, and until I have sufficient rank to make my own decisions, I will be pulled into a less than sane, very Un-Hunter like situation. I'm still a Hunter, I'm just dealing with the temporary cards dealt me until I get to make the decisions! ZZ. For instance: was in a flight of 4 Albatros DIII's last night as a newby Gerfrieter, last in the patrol (tail end charlie if you will) and watched in horror as my squad leader, on my first flight no-less, dove willy nilly into a a squad of Spads beneath us that outnumberd us two-to one! Rash Fool!! He could have climbed away easily and been smart. Instead, all my wingys were either shot down or dissapeared, and after downing one of these opponents, I was forced to terrain hop with three more of these bastards on my tail giving me occaisional lead infusions all the way back to a freindly strip. When I get promoted, things will be different!! How many times do you think THAT was said in real life?
  4. But of course my dear fellow, did you ever really doubt it? I only occaisionally fly the aformentioned "Poo Poo" planes as a palate cleanser, and quickly thereafter I return to the true machines of excellence....The Albitri and Fokkers. Beauty AND power...who could ask for anything more? ZZ.
  5. I want to take a moment to interrupt this lovely thread, and re-visit this earlier statement: Fly Entente?!?!? NEVER!! Poo-poo colored planes... yucky square boxes with engines... bleech!!! HAAAAahahahah mwuaaaaahhhh haha hahaha ha haaaaaa!! ....ahem K. Thanks....I needed that. OVS....well put. I'm working on my penchant for understatement.
  6. Magpie at six o'clock

Hehe, or if he simply "latched onto" the elevator for a bit. Would definately put the Rc craft into a nasty spin! ZZ. try this one : ) or this one. And finally this one will blow your mind, I'm kinda dissapointed its all stills in sequence instead of video, but its still cool. Reminds me of an Albatros attacking a big old 2-seater!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ7cE-ydpNA&feature=fvw
  7. Hair-raising combat!

I actually have had this happen as well. It doesn't happen often. But after hearing your description, it does seem to me to happen after a very intense and harrowing fight. I had a similar experience, a fight that I was just happy to survive by the seat of my pants, and actually downed some enemy in the process, and upon misison close.....no option to report anything. At that point, I just made a mental note (you owe me one game!!!)...and moved on. Just happy my pilots still alive and kicking. ZZ. PS...I didn't think to look at the mission log. Where/How do you do that? If it ever occurs again this may be helpfull knowing what it registered when.
  8. Magpie at six o'clock

Awesome video find Olham. That bird definately had the fighter tactic down, attacking repeatedly from six o-clock. Pretty good maneuvering as well. She must have had a nest in the area and was chasing off "percieved threats". This sometimes happens. I have also heard of Hawks being territorial and attacking rc-gliders in thermals they favor. I've known a couple of glider pilots who had Hawks act as both friends (ie fly alongside and with your plane), and aggresors, diving in and actually striking the glider from height and damaging it with talons. ZZ.
  9. Ace skins

Here are a few, the Fokker DVII belonged to Zeigser, Jasta 18 I think. One of my favorites. And the Albatros DII, is Prinz Friederich Karl von Preussin. What a mouthfull. ZZ.

  12. Yeah, Yeah, I know, its un-authentic. But it is a fair amount of fun flying in Willi von Klugermanns' DR1. I'd love to post it for download, but don't know how....any pointers? Thanks guys. ZZ.
  13. Blue Max Skin

Olham, Thanks bro. Your advice is spot-on and accurate as always. You are truly a grace to this forum. I tried your proceedure and it worked, so look for it in the skins section in the next few hours. I'll try to have it up so you guys can have some fun with it. ZZ.
  14. Blue Max Skin

OK, current status. Discovered the file is currently in a DDS format, which the game requires to work. So why are we changing it to an RAR? I dont' know how to do that, but would be happy to email it to one of you guys who can convert it, if you wouldn't mind. ZZ.
  15. Blue Max Skin

Ok, I'll give it a shot tonight, and get back to you guys if I hit any snags. ZZ.
  16. Thats too funny...cows eatin planes. As far as the motivation for the little guy in this vid though, I'm pretty darn sure he was in the first stages of hydrophobia...ie..Rabies. No animal in his right mind behaves that way for any other reason. ZZ.
  17. Reminds me of the days when I was young and still working on my Families' Farm. We'd shoot quite a few of those little buggers every summer to keep cows from breaking thier legs in holes they left in our fields, or tractors from losing wheels. We'd carry 22's and snipe them, either stationary or from atop a tractor as you bounced along endlessly, tilling, or cutting or raking. There was this old GroundHog....so old he had turned grey mostly, we called him "The Veteran", and he lived on this well fortified hill, great view, multiple entry and exit holes...a real fortress bunker. He had been shot at many times and for many years, with people swearing they had hit him.... but to no avail. He'd just appear the next day...munching happily as if nothing perturbed him. He lived a long full life with many offspring that inhabited his bunker that were as saavy as he at eluding attacks, so they had apparently learned well from thier old man. One day however, someone actually got him, and upon a closer inspection, found he had no less than 18 slugs...I kid you not.....18 under his skin and lodged harmlessly in the underlying copious fat around his girth. An amazing record. ZZ.
  18. Hehe....where's a Spandau when you need it?? ZZ.
  19. U know what I'd be saying if I wuz one of those little tots!! Hey Mister, how a bout a ride!!??? They look like they'd fit in that plane quite nicely. ZZ.
  20. Hows about a lift?

Wow, thanks for the video link Olham. That looks really interesting. I'll have to find some time today to watch a few. Just watched the opening so far. ZZ.
  21. Now THATS much more precise! ZZ.
  22. Hows about a lift?

Veritas, and its a pity he didn't stay in the States when he had the chance, and avoid that whole ugly mess. ZZ.
  23. Well, to answer your question more simpy......."There's no air....up there." ZZ. Or very very little....to be more precise.
  24. Hows about a lift?

Geesh, that landing always gets me, every time I see it. Truly a phenomenal pilot. I wouldn't wan't to have to fly against that skillset in OFF....much less in real life when your backside is really on the line. Until you get a few hundred hours of combat flight experience, you just can't push that edge as far as he could! Amazing. ZZ.
