  1. von Richthofen DR1 Photos

(Sorry about the flash, but this shot came out the best) Manfred von Richthofen's Fokker Triplane Fuselage Fabric, 21st April 1918. Fabric "skin" of the Fokker Triplane. The aircraft had a linen fabric "skin" strengthened, tightened, and waterproofed with layers of applied airecraft dope. How red is red? The "skin" was then painted a distinctive red colour. Military aviation historians and artists are interested in the fabric because it shows through visual and microscopic study, the exact shade of red: "Lake Red Methuen 9 (C-D) 8." Germany's military aircraft markings. From early 1918, smaller, straight-sided black/white crosses identified German military aircraft. This cross is from the port side of von Richthofen's aircraft.

Manfred von Richthofen's Fokker Triplane Seat, 21st April 1918. Seat of Germany's "Red Devil." The curved aluminum/plywood seat had a red linen covering. Only fabric scraps around the seat edges remain today. Bullet holes in the seat? The holes in the seat's center are not bullet holes, but are mounting holes which joined the seat to the aircraft's internal frame. "The Red Air Fighter" died in this seat. Around 1045 hours on 21st April 1918, near Corbie village, Somme River Valley, France, Rittmeister Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen, the 80 victory German "ace" fighter pilot, died in this seat.
  3. MvR Triplane Artifacts

Hmm... still no luck with the upload and post. When I select a JPG image and click Upload, the Upload screen has the counter animation, but when it finishes the attachment panel is blank, except for the Manage Current Attachments menu, which says (0) and the pull down states "There are no items currently" Firefox 3.0.10, NoScript (Combatace.com is allowed to run scripts), I've tried unloading my anti-virus and firewall (Trend), Also tried IE6. It must be some setting on my PC.
  4. MvR Triplane Artifacts

Sorry - this topic should have had an Off topic label. Trying again to upload photo image: Hmmm... not getting too far. No luck uploading to this topic or to a Personal Album. The Help function doesn't give me any clues. What are the limitations for image uploading? These are JPG files ranging from about 280 to 460KB. I click on the Browse button and identify the JPG file on my local hard drive. I then click on Upload and nothing appears to happen. Can someone offer some advice?
  5. I'm really enjoying the 1.28a patch with the Hard Damage Model, with Hard guns, and "Dead is Dead" (120% Realism), even though it makes for lots of dead pilots. C'est le guerre! Vraiment! On a new Campaign with RFC-11 (Bristol Scouts), the first mission was an Airfield Attack. I did a low-level pass on the target enemy airfield to strafe a line of neatly parked EIIIs and Roland CIIs, scored some minor hits, and then bugged out as the ground fire was getting hot. On the way back to our lines, I attacked and destroyed two German Observation Balloons (with my full flight in tow as witness). No enemy aircraft were sighted in the air and the flight returned to home base without further incident: Goals Completed. Ending the mission, OFF Manager did report one pilot from the flight as missing, but gave me no opportunity to claim the balloon kills. I tried to enter a claim in the Pilot Doissier: View Claims section, but it wouldn't stick. A Replay/review of the mission did register the destruction of each balloon, but it was disappointing to not to be able to claim them, having at least three surviving witnesses (including my wingman). I may not have hit all the way-points, but I didn't think that mattered to OFF Manager. Are we not yet able to claim gas-bags as kills?
  6. Thanks guys! Now that I know they don't count (unless as an assigned target), I'll reserve balloon-popping as an idle sport. Great fun, if you live to tell the tale!
  7. I usually have name combinations with Dudley - Not my name at all. A nick-name I briefly had years ago, but it seemed right when I started flying CFS1 on-line with RCAF_6Group. I go through so many pilots that I make them with different middle initials. (You think I'd be better at this by now; I mean the air combat - not creative names.) So: Albert A. Dudley, Albert B. Dudley, etc. - eventually using up the alphabet and progressing to other first names Alfred, Arthur .... sigh! When flying German, I use Ernst von Dudley - known to friend and foe as Der FlederWurst!
  8. off dog fight competion trial

I'm in! I can certainly provide some excellent target material.
