  1. IIRC from having a very brief career with them, it is Jasta 32.
  2. drop in fps

Hmm, may have to try that to see for myself.
  3. drop in fps

Just curious, what lower setting do you say improved your smoke?
  4. Same here, wasn't really expecting this neat feature until P4 , but also still exiting upon non-flyable condition. Thanx so much OBD, really do appreciate all the extra effort.
  5. Yes, thank you so much! Above and beyond most certainly.
  6. drop in fps

Was having the same problem since I patched my game. Had all my settings set as per the Nvidia tips in the sticky and was working fine up until that time. Afterwards was getting 12-18 FPS while sitting on runway and usually averaging mid-20s to low 30's in the air, and back down to the teens when I was low to the deck or in a furball. Tried reducing object density to medium still the same. Went down to low density, and MAGIC! 30-40 FPS on or near the ground or dogfights, hi 50s to 60s steady while in the air! Settings still the same, sliders set to 5-5-3-3-5-1. Tried bumping object detail up to 4 after this and FPS dropped again so went back to 3. Smooth and solid now. Just my 2 pence. Hope this helps someone.
  7. Well, being 'over there', I am away from my other regular hobby of building scale model aircraft, so in lieu of that, I have been building Lego models (go ahead, laugh ) of WW1 birds on a cad program I downloaded. While searching for reference photos for my latest project, I came across this and thought it my prove interesting to most on this forum. Kinda reflects my flying style I think! P.S. If anyone would also like to see the fruits of my boredom, I will be happy to post pics of those as well. I have an Albatros DIII 95% complete and am currently working on a Fokker DVII
  8. Here ya go. The D7 isn't much yet as I just started on it yesterday. Will not be all red when finished, lol. The albatros is lacking MGs, Struts and a couple other doo-dads I need to add/improve
  9. The Last Change for P3....

I as well agree that the sim is just fine as it is. I would just simply like to say once again, Thankyou.
  10. The new patch DM is

Hi there BH. Well, I guess you could say perfect timing. I hit pause as soon as I saw my nose explode in front of me then went to external view to investigate and take the screenies. I tried unpausing for only a sec to get a different angle, but then I was immediately taken back to the QC screen.
  11. The new patch DM is

And the damage caused by the new flak accuracy... Was gonna try out busting a balloon with the new mini-patch fixes just to see and suddenly-BOOM!! Direct hit that literally knocked my engine right out of my plane...still running! And they say they're making improvements still to the DM and Damage visuals? This is fantastic!
  12. Have been playing BH&H every chance I get lately but, as I was trying to sleep last night and reflecting back on my flights earlier that day and all the new improvements found in the SP, my mind began to wander.... So I was taxing back to my hangar after a flight, and was naturally admiring the new improved hangars and clutter and such. Then I thought, 'How cool would it be to have my flight crew run out to greet me as I was cutting off the engine, and to have a few on-lookers standing around, counting the aircraft, anxiously awaiting their return. (It probably didn't help I have also been reading Fighting the Flying Circus lately and the detailed descriptions of such things on the ground.) Take it a step further, have your crew chief beside your aircraft at the start of a mission as you start your engine. I am so anxious to get back to flying now that I have the rest of the day off and off tommorow as well, that that's what I'm gonna go do now. That's the big one in my mind that really would be neat to see if possible. I am not by any means expecting any of this to be implemented, as I know as well as everyone else around here how hard the devs are STILL plugging away at expanding and polishing this sim that is already in so many ways more excellent than any of us could have hoped for. Was just day dreaming (Its cheap, and fun!) and figured I would share this with everybody. I will post some more if I come up with any and/or if anyone is interested. Pulling chocks!
  13. Fokker E.V. / D.VIII

    Wow! Just beautiful!
  14. Hadn't known about the flares, but upon you mentioning the streamers trying to be previously implemented and so far unsuccessful, I do recall the devs saying something about that.
  15. Ultimately the screen shot of the mechanic standing in the hanger w/ the new 1.32 SP really got me thinking about such possiblilities. I didn't actually think of the fact that the troops are actually scripted to the roads. Any who though, as far as the guy turning your prop at start, just having him there to go through the motions as u start ur engine then run away and dissappear into a hangar would probably do the trick. Just had the ground crew greeting thing in mind also b/c when we (army blackhawk crews) come back from a mission at the end of the day, we usually have other crew members run out to the flightline to help us w/ any inspections, maintenance, or just tying down the aircraft and stowing gear. A couple other ideas I had were: popping flares for wounded signal etc. Flags on the flight leaders aircraft for easier ID
  16. Have been grounded now for a month

Hi there Widow, certainly is nice to see you around again, as I have almost always seen you all over the forum when I regularly peruse it. Know what you mean about being too busy to fly and such. Heck, I'm in Afghanistan, and whoda thunk I would have so little free time to 'fly' when I'm really flying!? Like there's a war going on or something, sheesh! lol Anywho, take care m8, see ya round.
  17. AWESOME Superpatch!

Most outstanding devs! Thnx so very much! I had just re-tweaked my graphics to finally show a/c damage, look better, and run faster/smoother a couple days ago, and now the new patch is finally here. It's like I keep finding new things almost everyday and just about when I think I've found all the hidden goodies, along comes some more to explore. I too very much enjoy the new splash screen and over all atmosphere the interface revamp brings to this joy of a sim. All I can really say is wow, and this is really a dream come (coming?) true! I could go on and on I am so excited, but will leave some room for others to brag as well. Once again, well done! Pulling chocks.
  18. Books, books, books

Still reading To the Last Man by Jeff Shaara, perhaps i can stay focused and read it, because it really is a good read, chocked full of historical detail. As far as other WWI books, the only other I have read any extent of is Eddie Rickenbacker's Fighting the Flying Circus, which is also very compelling in my opinion, though I only got halfways done w/ that one, but now have my own copy in hopes of finishing it soon. My all time favorite historical-fiction author would have to be David L. Robbins. I have 3 of his books, all of which were most excellent in the fact that he has very believable characters as well as thorough historical detail. War of the Rats- classic sniper action at Stalingrad with historical research on the actual Vasili Zaitsev as well as his German rival (the name escapes me at the moment). The End of War- the race to berlin in 1945 through the eyes of Russian soldiers, Berlin residents, and the Americans; really an eye opener as to the individual human struggle for all involved. Citadel- both Russian and German tankers' perspective of the fierce armoured battles in the Kursk offensive, as well as some partisans and a couple others. Lots of action. One of my favourite reads so far concerning the Pacific theatre in WW2 would have to be The Pilots by James Spencer. This is a fictional account mostly based on his real life experiences as a pilot in the Pacific as well as his comrades. Has some nice flying scenes, tense moments between some squadron members, everyday life and dealing with victories and the loss of friends. This is probably the book I pick up to reread the most often if not just for the engaging atmosphere the author so vividly paints. Hope those may catch someone's attention, that is basically the books at the top of my list that I have read so far and have enjoyed the most. Tchuss! -Luftace
  19. Flyboys

This subject has probably been covered before, but I just wanted to know your opinions on the movie as far as how accurate it is and such. They had a few period aircraft in it, true, but with CG and all now days... Do they really think all the germans flew were Fokker Dr I's? C'mon. And where were the screaming indian's head insignias on the aircraft? The only historical figure depicted in the Lafayette Escadrille was the commander, Georges Thenault. Where is Lufberry? Just wish they could make a historical based movie more historical instead of just hollywood fluff. Anywho, I have my opinion, just wanted to know what others think. Tchuss!
  20. OT Anyone play a Musical Instrument?

Wow, quite a few instrumentalists here! I too play a few instruments. I started out on the trombone in jr. high and stuck with it until I graduated high school in 05. Unfortunately, later that year, it was washed away in hurricane Katrina. No worries though, my wife has bought 2 as a gift while I'm deployed over here, WooHoo!! Now when I get back, perhaps, if I'm not too rusty, I can find some folks to play with in a local jazz band or something. A funny side note, my wife also plays the flute, keyboard, and a little bit of percussion, and no bull, when folks ask us how we met, we just say, 'Well this one time, at band camp...' I am self taught at piano, but am in no way near competent at it yet, lol. I also play the harmonica and am learning new techniques such as bending. A buddy of mine here is learning the banjo, and occasionally, we sit in front of our B hut and play together, mostly 'dueling banjos' to the best of our limited abilities. One of my many other hobbies is WW2 reenacting (German, 116 PD, 2/228 panzerjager) and I also break out my vintage harmonica and play a couple tunes such as Erika, and Lili Marlene while sitting around camp. Well, I'll say that's enough of tootin my own horn (pun intended), so I'm off to OFF some more. Tchuss!
  21. sorry bout that, guess the post decided it was ready before I was, lol anywho The above stated, of course by Eddie Rickenbacker I had started reading this one in high school but never finished it. I am happy to finally add it to my collection. "The Red Fighter Pilot: The Autobiography of the Red Baron" by Manfred von Richthofen "Winged Victory" by V. Yeates "Storm of Steel" by Ernst Junger German soldiers story of fighting in the trenches "Eye Deep in Hell:Trench Warfare in World War I" by John Ellis Plenty to keep me busy for awhile, and I intend to add more in the future. See what BH&H has done to me? lol Actually I just cant get enough of it now, so I shall read on, as well as fly of course. Tchuss!
  22. I too have ordered some books to add to my non-existent WWI library. I am currently reading "To the Last Man" by Jeff Shaara, which so far is excellent, though a work of fiction, is rooted in fact with well researched historical characters. The books I have ordered are as follows: "Terror of the Autumn Skies" by Blaine Pardoe Just got this one in the mail, have thumbed thru it, will read in the near "Fighting the Flying Circus
  23. Flyboys

I have yet to see the new red baron movie either, though I may have to check it out for curiosities sake. A few accurate points, as have been pointed out above I have read about though. Once Lufberry got to the Laf., he had a habit of checking and polishing his bullets before loading them into his lewis drums. Alot of the other pilots had joked and jibed at him for this, but it wasnt long before they began to follow suit. Also, the lion mascot, who's name infact was Whiskey, was bought for about 500 francs from a circus or zoo in paris on one of the squadrons liberties, and if the book i am reading is accurate, I believe the pilot went by the name (nickname?) of Prince. Also, I haven't gotten that far yet, but I guess they eventually aquired another lion which they named Soda. I will agree that BHaH is really darn accurate, I know for a fact that I am certainly learning more about events during the war just through the newspaper clippings in the campaign than I ever did when I was in high school, but then again, I did find myself correcting my history teachers occasionly when they would inaccurately lecture on subjects I knew about, i.e. WW2, lol. Tchuss!
