  1. Flyboys

No offense taken tttiger, I gathered your intent, lol.
  2. Flyboys

Yeah, I know, I saw it when it came out 3 years ago, I just have yet to have a chance to discuss it with any knowledgable persons. Wings was great, I havent seen it in probably close to 10 years, but I really did enjoy it. It just sparked my interest in a book I'm reading that focuses a lot on Lufberry, and remembered that Flyboys depicted the Lafayette Esc., but a lot of the stuff from the film wasn't matching up. I wasn't surprised by this, but as I said earlier, just wanted to see what others thought. The book BTW is "To the Last Man" by Jeff Shaara, and so far, 2 of the 4 characters, Lufberry and Richthofen, are pretty accurately presented, especially since he seems to have done thorough research in putting it together including both of their autobiographies and other sources. I have several books on order, including "Fighting the Flying Circus", MvR's auto, and 2 more accounts of the air war. Anywho, I am however trying to learn as much as possible as quick as possible as my current knowledge of this subject matter is still a bit basic, but I can only read so fast, lol. Tchuss!
  3. Decided to finally try out the campaign today, joined Jasta 32 in August 1917 flying Albatross DIIs. Pretty smooth except for running into some French Nieuport 17s. Got hits on a few and was surprised to see 3 pending kills for myself! Pretty good for my first day in the squadron, and on top of that having to lead the 2nd flight of 2 bc I was highest ranking, Obergefreiter, lol. Only 13 pilots available so far, so I guess the commander saw me fit to do so being fresh out of flight school, haha. Only problem was, being new, I hadnt learned any of the names of my fellow wingmen yet, so didn't know who to put down for my kill claims witnesses. Doh! Anyways, back to flying. Having a blast. Love the historical newspaper and period film clips too by the way. Tchuss!
  4. Hi all, just wanted to drop a few words and say howdy. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and finally got around to signing up to the forum. I may be new to everyone here, but I do not feel so new as I have kept up with the forum, even before it was here at combatace.com and all of the updates to this wonderful sim. It has been said time and again, but I will gladly say again how great this piece of art truely is. I look forward to joining in the many interesting discussions to go on here in the very near future and will try not to remain a stranger so much. Typically I am a huge WW2 buff, but recently, especially with this sim, my interest has been significantly piqued in the 1st world war. In fact, I ordered no less than 6 books alone on the conflict in one night a few days ago! Anywho, look forward to being apart of this forum and sim with the likes of you and will be checking in when I'm not really flying. Tchuss!
  5. Finally here

Predator? Not a chance, lol. I am a blackhawk crewchief though and get plenty of time behind a machine gun in my window, only trigger time I really get though is shooting at smoke grenades for practice now and then, thank god really. I do get a sense of what the pilots of the great war felt though, freezing wind whipping you in the face constantly, scanning your sector as far as you can see, coming back with numb, nearly frozen toes and fingers, especially in the winter months. Wish I could tell you guys more, but I have to be careful what I say. A neat side note though, we are permitted to paruse (think thats how u spell it, lol) the bazaar where local nationals sell us various goods and such. Out here I have aquired three M1916 german helmet shells, all a bit rusty, of course some in better condition than others. I am a little curious as to whom they may have belonged, how they got here, etc., but still pretty neat to find in, what i presume to be, an unsuspecting place for such relics. Tchuss!
  6. Finally here

Thanx for the kind words Mack, will duely keep my wits about me here. Typically I fly the Fokker D VII varients, but occasionally try out the various albatross models. I have yet to commit myself to a full on campaign yet, and feel a little guilty of that since I have had the sim for several months now. I have tried all of the German crates atleast once in QC, and must say the eindecker is quite the little beast to master. I think I may just go for it and pick a random jasta and start a campaign and see how far I get. I don't know much about the various squadrons, jastas, etc., so am not partial to any particular one....yet, but am quickly reading up on all aspects of the air war, and the more I learn, the more enthused I become. I just wish I had more time to devote to this thing. Tchuss!
