Yes, but if you fly the camel, you have the goods to take out the Richtofens....both of them! -
Belly up to the bar boys!

Forget the compas and AH Steve! I just shot down the red baron! Heh. Erm....sorry, just a bit excited over here. Lessee, I found that AH when switching the compass etc around with the Shift F4, F5, F6 etc IIRC. You can move them any where you want with your mouse, btw. As for the compass, I find it's the most important instrument of them all. I often run out of ammo and need to head for the hills, but cant using warp as there are enemy nearby. I guess I could just use the map, but I like to reference the compass. No it doesnt swing around at all, at least that I've noticed. Oh and since I shot down Manfred and Lothar, YOU go get Olham. It's your turn mate! -
21 plane furball and fps
Broadside uda Barn replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Lou-- I switched to your slider settings, and am getting 50 - 60 solid FPS, down and dirty near the ground in a dogfight I get in the 40s. Rare jaggies with TrackIR now. Turning the scenery detail down was huge. Can you tell me what the settings are in your nvidia control panel? Thanks for the help! -

wow! Great shot! Never seen one like that. Here's a flamer I just took.. Might make a desktop pic out of it... -
Check this out. Here's a pic of his plane and something that fell out, close up of the object shows it's his motor! I really peppered this guy, and I saw something come out, I thought it was the pilot since the plane was on fire. OBD, did you make the DM so that even the engine could fall out? simply WOW!

...are no more! On 11/22/1917 at zulu tme 1:39, about 2 miles SW of Roucouet my flight of camels was on a routine mission behind enemy lines to destroy a train station when we were jumped by none other than the flying circus! As they dove on us, I turned slowly on the outer wing of the furball and noticed one plane higher than the others and so I climbed toward him as the other planes dove past me. He dove on me and we exchanged fire head on, and as he passed I noticed his all red albatros! Pause. Label check...sure enough it was the Baron himself! and Lothar was not far behind. I turned hard as he was coming around on my 6 already. Full rudder and turning as hard as I could I finally got a bead on him and hit his rudder momentarily. We turned and flipped and his flying was amazing, but my incredible turning camel kept bringing him into my sites again and again. I must have hit something on that initial pass as he couldnt quite keep out of my sites, tho I couldnt quite get more than 1 second bursts on him at any given time. We got lower and lower, and my wings were scraping the dirt, when finally he crashed....Archibald B. Wellington of the RNS8 Squadron shot down the Baron! and none too soon, as his brother Lothar had shot down my wingman and was close behind me. I turned on him and we turned for a long time, me trying to gain altitude at every chance, when he pulled up into a stalled wing slip, and he was one big target in my gun sights. There were bits of his plane all over when I was done with that burst. He couldnt recover and crashed near his brother. I downed another one of their aces before finally running out of ammo. However, by that time the lone remaining Alb was all over me, like white on rice, like stink on a dog, like the cookie monster on an oreo. I couldnt shake him. I started pressing the H key repeatedly, and sure enough, here comes my two remaining buddies out of the mist. It sounded like "flight of the valkyries" was playing but I could be mistaken. That last Alb turned to meet them and I nosed down and headed for the front. Later, over fine double malted Scotch Whiskey (balvenie double aged in port and sherry casks), we lamented that we came home a man short today...but the scourge of the skies and his brother will be drinking their Whiskey thru straws for the next few months! (unless MVR actually died on 11/22/1917?)..... Belly up to the bar, boys! Wellington's buying!! (in my excitement I forgot to take a screen shot of Manfred, but I got Lothar here):

Broadside uda Barn replied to Iscin's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Iscin, welcome to OFF! dont worry about the pending order bit. IIRC, it always says that and doesnt change, due to the fact that Avangate is selling OFF for OBD software. My copy came in about 6 days, and I'm on an island, so hopefully you'll get it sooner. See you in the skies soon! -
The OFF Campaign PND Standard. This is intended for the added enjoyment of those vPilots who choose to have as much fun with their OFF experience as can be had. "Fun Experience" in this case, is the total enjoyment of all the unique missions and aspects of OFF. Many of the settings in OFF exact a critical demand upon the pilot to be extra conservative when flying, so as not to lose your beloved pilot. This cuts into much of the enjoyment that can be had flying this amazing sim, not to mention the depths of the sim that are avoided because they are simply too dangerous. PND is not intended to express contempt for those who play the sim by a "higher" standard. And for those that choose to fly that way, their reasons are entirely valid for their own private purposes. But (BUT), if one wishes to experiences the entire arena that the OFF world has to offer, one should let fly the said "higher" standard, in favor of overwhelming fun and excitement. PND is intended to provide that standard of fun, and to erase preconceived notions of what a "real" pilot would do. Be a hero! Nay, be THE hero! Be the pilot that takes the risks, pushes the envelope, and lives to tell about it! So...OFF: PND: Workshop: There are many options to avail yourself of and to tailor your WW1 flight experience to your liking. One in particular is one that is often avoided, and is at the very heart of PND. It's the option: Pilot Never Dies. Click this option. Pilot Never Dies allows you to take the missions that you avoided, or just didn't fulfill when flying with mortality. Take that mission to strafe troops over the front, knowing full well that you likely will not return...because you just might! Charge the airfield when it is being attacked by overwhelming enemy planes who have height and position advantage. You might just teach them a lesson about messing with YOUR airfield! Take out the train yard...not just once, but level every building that your limited ammo will allow you to! Go after that pesky flight of 5 two seaters, they will be one or no seaters after your done! Would you comply with these missions with your mortal pilot? The one that has 12 missions, 8 confirmed kills, and 11 hours of life? No way! So you follow the waypoints, look for aircraft, and go home...forgetabout the mission objective, cause you know you'll be enlisting a new pilot in 3 minutes if you do. And this is the heart of PND: There's so much to do and see, that you avoid. Have fun, knowing that YOU are the one that even when shot down behind enemy lines, escapes in 2 days! You somehow live thru that crazy flaming camel spin, albeit with a few scratches and 21 days in the infirmary. As to all the other realism settings within the workshop, it is encouraged that you use these as you see fit. It's an enjoyable experience to fly a plane with demanding circumstances. If you keep this realm of realism for the flight model, limited weapons, stress on the AC, etc, you will learn quite a bit about what your plane will allow you to do and what it wont...thus making you a better pilot. Play a full campaign with ONE Pilot! Get some medals, see your claims confirmed or denied, get a promotion! Grow close to your fellow pilots, and agonize when they don't return, but somehow you do. Enjoy OFF for all that it has. Have MORE fun, and avoid (at least for a time) the frustration of losing your beloved pilot with 12 missions, 8 confirmed kills, and 11 hours of flight, just because the cat jumped on your desk as you were taking off, or worse yet, because you tipped your wing at 5 mph on your landing, and you ended up crashing and dying a horrific death. That's the PND standard. If you wish to be regarded by it, you are entirely welcome to include the acronym PND anywhere you please. I'll finish with the usual fun loving bit..."PND sorts the colon cleansing salad from the colon clogging cheese, the pilots who enjoy this amazing game in all its facets, from those that rarely saw much of the game, in effect the Heros from the dead! Broadside uda Barn note: Plaudits to Siggi for his excellent DiD optional flight standard!

graphic settings and FPS
Broadside uda Barn replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Clouds at 1 and 2 helped a little, but not much. I like the better clouds tho, or at least I think I do. It's hard to tell, because each mission is different. hard to get the same settings for a good test. Unless someone can see something in the nvidia control panel settings, I think I'll just follow rickity's suggestion and leave well enough alone. Honestly, it plays so smooth, that steady 50 FPS, isnt really any different than 25 FPS...the key being that it's steady and no stutters, which I dont have. The white jagged tearing is something else. Maybe it's ram, maybe uncleal is right, it's the cpu. I'll think about OC'ing, tho it's not THAT annoying as it only happens in situations where I'm climbing and look back quickly. It also might be a setting in the TrackIR. I still cant figure that out tho, so I havent messed with it since HB recommended his settings. Slower turning might fix the issue. Thanks for the input on your settings hellshade! And thanks everyone else for the suggestions. Keep em coming if you think of anything. BuB -
graphic settings and FPS
Broadside uda Barn replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have a whopper of a cooler already in the case. It's a vigor monsoon 3, about the size of a football (I'm not kidding). Yeah, I bought this specific chip because of the OC potential. I havent oc'd yet as I havent really seen the need to up to this point, and there's no sense in putting the wear on the cpu if there's no real need....but I'm not opposed to it. I think it might be an issue of RAM, since XP only sees 3GB. I'll try with some lower graphics settings in cfs3 and see what that does. -
graphic settings and FPS
Broadside uda Barn replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My in game graphics settings are set at: 5,5, 4, 4, 5, 4. this is a possibility. I dont think it has that much to do with cpu performance (remember that the i7 reads memory at 4 different cores, instead of the bottleneck that dual and quad cores have...it's a completely new architecture for memory reading), as opposed to graphics card settings. This card has ample room to spare...896mb memory. curious to see what others are getting...and does anyone have a comparable rig to an i7 920? -

Is anyone using an i7 920 with a gtx 260? I'd like to compare graphics settings and FPS results. These are the settings I'm using. I'm getting beautiful graphics, no shimmering, no tearing (unless you call tearing the white out when you quickly turn your head to see behind you with TrackIR...which I get, but it disappears quickly as the scenery is rendered). About 25 FPS on the ground taking off. About 45 FPS in the air with no one around me. About 30 -40 FPS in a dogfight with 8 or so planes. About 15 - 25 FPS in a dogfight with 10+ planes. How does this compare with what you are seeing? My rig specs are in my signature. Drivers are 182.50

The sky was angry this day, my friends! I counted 21 planes in the air over the front. It was a troop strafing mission, and while we were doing that, 2 jastas and a squad of spad VIIs joined our camels. Wow! So many planes. Got shot up by an ace and had to land in no man's land. It was great My fps went to the cellar tho. I've been mixing up my settings again, trying to get rid of the white triangles , anyway, FPS went down to about 24-18 for the duration. I've been getting 30-40 fps with max settings. 3 questions: How many planes have you seen at any one time in a dogfight? How do you do with FPS in these situation? White triangles: (I only get them when quickly turning to see my 6 with trackIR, and only when I'm facing up, so the back of me is facing the ground, with more texture to render. And then only for a split second as it then renders the scenery, then all is fine). Anyone NOT get them in this situation?

With the improved AA in the superpatch, I'm wondering if there's some tips on staying away from the black clouds that hurt. Is there a particular altitude where it's LESS likely to hit? (seems I recall something like above 9000 feet, or under 4000) Weaving high low and left right seems to help, but it's difficult to fly this way for awhile, especially the missions that have you flying over the front long ways instead of just passing over it. Thanks!

I saw a blurb on this and was thinking about reading it. It's $17 or so for the paperback, which seems a lot, for a paperback. Any opinions on this book? Also, wasnt Yeates in ww1?

OFF vs. RoF differences
Broadside uda Barn replied to SFP1Ace's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
waiting is the worst part! amazon had my cfs3 here in a couple of days. OFF took about 7 days IIRC. Just read the forums, take notes (cause it's a lot to remember), and also, when you do get OFF, follow the instructions for setup in the FAQ, it makes things like graphics, controls, etc, pretty seamless. First plane to fly? SE5a very stable, fun to fly, will do most of what you want it to do.
