Single aircraft purchases?
Guderian replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I like it since the option is probably not seeing these aircraft at all from Third Wire, or at least not for a long time. About $20, although $10-15 would be better. Compared to MSFS addons it's not much. Yes. They can coexist happily as far as I'm concerned. As for what the first addon should be, see my avatar. :) -
Strike Fighters 2 Europe

According to what I could find the SA-8 was not used in Lebanon. For a hint of what LHA and beaches might mean, check out the Wikipedia entry for USS Tarawa. I'm not saying it's coming soon, but it does seem to be somewhere in the pipeline. I think it would sell (virtual) truckloads. -
Strike Fighters 2 Europe

TK had the following to say about dropping the AV-8A (which I agree was always a weird aircraft on the Central Front): Anything we had to leave out, we'll most likely to do them later in another game... AV-8A will probably be done in a game that involves LHA and beaches to land on, for example. There's also the appearance of the SA-8, which has only been used in combat by... -
Flights sims have two special, and interrelated, problems: view distance and map size. You obviously can see much further from the air, and since you move faster as well it requires a much bigger map than in a ground-based game. It looks like Storm of War will set the new benchmark for ground graphics, but there we're talking about a fairly big team and five or so years spent in development. Compare that to what TK has, for example...

Quote from TK on future TW games
Guderian replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Here's the quote about modern vs older aircraft: Just remember that our budget is limited to about 3 new player planes (or 1 modern plane) and similar number of new AI planes per game. And that number is even less if we also have to do a lot of new ground objects. And also remember that add-ons generally sell less, so we can include even less new content in them. So for example, if we were to do Korean War next (which we we're not doing) we'd have to do a limited scope version first and probably only do F-51, F-86, and MiG-15. Or, since P-51 and F-86 and MiG-15 are also used elsewhere, we can wait until they're done, then do a slightly bigger Korea later that also includes Skyraider and F9F, etc etc. -
Quote from TK on future TW games

I think he's said that modern aircraft are so much more work because of the avionics (one modern aircraft equals maybe three 1960s aircraft) that any modern conflict will have to be broken down simply because of that. As for Korea, it's a big conflict with a very large number of potential American flyables. I think that's a pretty good guess. Notice the interesting overlap between Suez and Korea, by the way. The TK quote is from this thread where there are a few more hints/explanations from him as well. Please note that it is not an official Third Wire poll in any way. -
First of all let me say that I am extremely excited about the project and the work so far looks great! Now, about the Harrier: I seem to remember reading somewhere that the compass heading indicators on the HUD did not work during the Falklands war. IIRC the reason had something to do with being in the southern hemisphere, which the designers had apparently not anticipated. I can't find a source right now, but maybe someone else can? Anyway, assuming this is actually true it might be a cool extra realism touch. IIRC the heading scale simply stayed at zero and didn't move. I don't think they were able to fix it during the conflict either.
