Winter Reading Material: A Few WWI Aviation Books Available To Download
itifonhom replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Downloading right now, thanks a lot Lou!! I had problem with Google Books too, no link to read! I really thought I´m an old stupid man until I read that other got the same issue too. 22% and going, thanks, thank you so much! itifonhom. -
As for the claims, keep it simple. I usually write something like "Engaged at medium altitude, after some short bursts at his engine, caught fire and crashed west of Riencourt". Guess what, I got over 80% of my claims confirmed. For the witnesses just put a flight member and/or Ground Troops, that'll do. itifonhom

Here's An Item of Interest For All The Richtofen Fans
itifonhom replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
A great collection indeed although I must say, I'm a little sceptical about it. As I read those are originals but where do they come from? I can understand that maybe they never being awarded to anyone, just lying in a box but they actually are awarded I find it kind of pitty. Behind every medal there's a story, an extraordinary one most of the times and it's sad to forget it just for the sake of a collection. But still impressive what the Rittmeister accomplished! itifonhom -
Hey Stiffy, there you are again. Well, as I undertsand it the free head move you see comes from TrackIR systems, not mouse viewing. Almost everybody here uses one I think. If TrackIR is expensive for you (like it is for me), you can try the freeware variation, Freetrack. In this case of course some work is needed but it's not that hard anyway and it's really cheap. And it works quite good too. I can't compare it really with TrackIR. From what I see from videos TrackIR seems to be smoother or I didn't configure Freetrack well. For sure, I can do descent dogfights with minimal cost. itifonhom

Welcome Stiffy!! Prepare yourself for many hours in front of the Front! I suppose, coming from the Concadeland you're going to fight for the wrong side but watch high above, we're coming! Nice to have you onboard, greetings from Jasta 2 and if you haven't already done so, PM your name and city to Olham, I'm sure he wants you to his map. itifonhom

Hello OFFers! I'm trying my luck with a new pilot and there's something wrong about him. We met two French aces with Nieups 17, I took the six of one of them, make a steep dive and the lower wing says goodbye!! I was still at 3000ft so I think, bye bye pilot! Mission stops and instead of "your pilot died" I got the "another logged flight" screen!!! After some missions we meet four Nieups, one got my six and peppered me heavily, tried to evade but my engine starts the barbeque!! Ok I think, that's it now! Instead, I get again the "another logged flight" screen!! But my settings are DiD! No invincible and the outcomes set at Dead is Dead. I got the 32g patch but since the patch lost pilots (lot if them). So, what should I think? Is there a problem or he is just VERY lucky? irifonhom

What's Stopping You?
itifonhom replied to Bullethead's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
I always wanted to learn to use the Gmax but although started a couple of times, never managed to get over the learning curve. I suppose I'm getting old. And I can do some skinning work, did already for IL2 and FSX, used to work as a graffic artist for many years, but I'm not sure which skin isn't already made, I mean the historic ones. And if I make it to finish a model of an airplane, then what? How does it comes into game? I suppose it has to be with a patch or to some next Phase, has to be intergraded with airfields and squadrons, right? I am interested but without knowledge Sir! itifonhom -
To be honest, I really thought of crash him somewhere really hard and see what happens but then again, if he has so much luck, why not keep fighting? But I'll be really carefull from now on, maybe his luck is all over by now. After all in six mission he returned only one aircraft to base! itifonhom

I know what you mean appraiserfl. Since I've lost my best pilot, I can't set up another one, they die before long and the legend of Herr Mainfeld lies above them all! But I'm sure you're going to make it and get better with a new pilot, even better! BTW, how do you take a Dossier screenshot? itifonhom

I'd like to see some early birds too! At least one Parasol, just to simulate the Fokker Scourge. I know it's boring early '15 but the view is wonderful and if a Frenchie shows up then the party can start! But Jasta 2 in September '16 is wonderful too! itifonhom

Burning Albatros safely landed
itifonhom replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm sure he kept his head REAL low until he landed! itifonhom -
Hi again fellow OFFers, I'm into modeling again and I'm thinking of making the W.Voss triplane. I noticed that the triplanes showed some "streaks" on their colour, those that were green are a good example. Like the initial colour was bleached or wore off for some reason. Anybody knows why? I can hardly imagine it was a desired effect but I'm not an expert so maybe someone who really knows? Thanks in advance for any feedback, itifonhom.

Plastic scale model Albatros V or Va
itifonhom replied to Dutch_P47M's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi Vs, I had this model in mind too but from what I read it´s not that good as it seems to be. Almost every guy who build it said they won´t do another one, there are notable mistakes, missing parts and really bad castings. I DIDN´T try it myself, it´s all what I read around in WWI forums. Just try to check it out before you buy it. -
As I already said in an other post, I simply wouldn't have all these guts to do anything close to to it!!! Those men, in the air, sea and land, in this war, they were all heroes in my eyes. itifonhom

Thanks Olham, very nice info indeed! When I visited my first modeling show in Germany I was ignorant of this law, so I walk around and see really beautiful WWII airplane models with their rudders covered with self adhesive tape!!! After a couple of models I couldn't stand it and asked receiving the answer "Swastika ist verbotten!". I couldn't believe my ears!! Ok, maybe it's forbidden to draw a swastika on a wall but how can you hide a swastika on a model, how can you deny History? I live now for almost ten years in Germany and still can't get it. I still think it's better to accept things and try to make them better than ban them, hide them and deny their excistance! And what about a figure model of an Persian warrior of 800 BC bearing a swastika on his shield, was he an SS member? And for whom did Voss did what he did, for the Chinese? If only he knew.... itifonhom

Hey JFM, that's exactly the one I'm at now in 1/72 from Revell. Quite old model but it's going good as it's rather small to care for too many details. But it's nice to see some mistakes of the Revell instructions such the engine cowling colour, the propeller cowling colour and the wheel cowlings colour. Of course the swastika is also missing since it's forbidden here in Germany. I'm going to post some pics of the model when it's over. itifonhom

Thanks a lot Rickitycrate! I'll check around the net for a while. And I thank you also for the Wingnut Wings link in an other thread, these guys look dead serious about what they're doing! My next model will be from them for sure. itifonhom
-
Just another modeling question, this time about the Albatros D.III, I just don't want to open a new thread about it. The colour of the engine cowling was natural aluminium or neutral grey? From what Revell suggest the first but in profiles I see the second, anybody? Again, thanks in advance. itifonhom

Plastic scale model Albatros V or Va
itifonhom replied to Dutch_P47M's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
He is right, DIII was flat and DV round, I checked it at "Albatros Fighters". itifonhom -
So, how is it done and where could I find more info about MP? I live in Germany and although I'm nor much of an onliner neither a good dogfighter, well someone has to be the target after all!! Maybe it'll help me to improve myself too if I fly MP from time to time. itifonhom

personal paint scheme on all wingmen
itifonhom replied to Ryan H's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'd like to know an answer to this myself, anyone? itifonhom -
Oh, so it was "intended" after all! Thanks a lot Rooster, super info! itifonhom

Hey Manuc! At first, welcome to the OFF skies, I'm sure you're going to love it here, be prepared to get amazed!!! To your post, I never noticed the trees to be honest just because I got my eyes around the sky for most of the time. And as Olham already said, I'd like to see the early planes and some bombers to target than the trees. As you maybe already know, the rookie buys the drinks mate! ;-) Once again, welcome! itifonhom

From what I understood, both. itifonhom
