Using Custom Effects in SF2
Squiffy replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Knowledge Base
Here is the fix for the B61 with complimentary browser-sanity-memory-cpu saving snip! B61_data.ini opened in notepad: [WeaponData001] TypeName=B61 FullName=B61 ... -snip- ... LiftDragRatio=4.000000 ReleaseAnimationID=1 ReleaseAnimationTime=2.000000 ReleaseAnimationDelay=0.250000 EODisplayFlags=0 CEP=0.000000 ADD right here!: [NukeExplosionEffect] EffectShaderName=twColor1.fx AirBurstEffectName=NukeExplosionEffect AirBurstSoundName=Nuclear.wav GroundHitSoundName=Nuclear.wav WaterHitSoundName=Nuclear.wav ObjectHitSoundName=Nuclear.wav CraterType=5 Do the same for all other nukes and you should be good to go. I went ahead and edited the spike effect lines. They may be a little bright and grow a little too wide now but the original started low and crawled only half way up to the intitial burst, also appearing lighter but maybe just as well. I switched the spike from sumthin-sumthin-light.fx to twColor1.fx to make it a light emitter not just reflector (object versus dust or vapor) Probably too much. At least they show now. -
Using Custom Effects in SF2
Squiffy replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Knowledge Base
Hi gang. Here are some screenshots of the fixed nuke effect with KillerBee's latest pack. Rather than substitute the K effect, I followed the thread and applied the fixes individually to the ini's. I threw in some other skin and cockpit mods for our nuke capable birds. When I finally got the nukes working, I coudln't help but think of the Banana Boat song with these lyrics: Come mister Taliban, tally me Osama, Nuke light come and me wan' go home!" I'll post my file fixes in a minute. -
Need your help for Afghanistan Campaign
Squiffy replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I didn't mean that you or any of us SHOULD set Soviets to enemy. Only that I did that to insure an air presense in Instantaction and it worked. I'll check for your campaign upload so no worries. F-5s showed good use of the "insignia" decal routine. I hope this works for Iranian roundels. -
Need your help for Afghanistan Campaign
Squiffy replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Gepard, Any news on the updates? I've got F-4s, F-14s (ha-ha) and F-5s loaded into my modded install, with nations.ini, alignments, and the aircraftxx_data.ini set up for Iran. Instant action, and missions work. I have NOT done a campaign yet but would very much like to. Especially now with the news coming from Iran. Got nukes working too (muwahahaha!) Soviets set to enemy too so that may help. Would love to test something if you have it. Cheers! -
B-52 Upgrade pack 3.0 question
Squiffy replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Not sure WH64, but you might just rename the closest one and try it. I recently got the B-52F touched up a little and upgraded with the A-6 cockpit mod. Radar works now but not sure about the FLIR, FLTV mods. I have to update the weapons.ini I think and wasn't really going to use them since it's an F. She looks good so I'll post some shots later. I really would love a B-2 but I'll settle for the B-1 since it's available. -
Standoff missiles
Squiffy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi gang, I need help adding ALCM, SRAMs, and Hound dogs to my bombers. Mavericks loaded up fine but I need to know the allowable weapon class codes for these larger missiles. It would be nice to have a set of pylons for my B-52s as well. haven't found anything in the KB about hound dogs or weapon class codes. Any help here? Just point me in the right direction. Don't remember seeing it on the other sites. -

Standoff missiles
Squiffy replied to Squiffy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks FC, I got my ACLMs working now. I'll have to look into reinstalling the weapons pack. Not sure which would be best for SF2. Currently I'm tweaking the B-52 data.ini to fix the various position problems and weapons stuff too. AGM 86 launched well and looks good. Tweaking that skin too. I can save small edits but a total rebuild hangs my machine. I'll reinstall. -

Thanks RCS, I have the pack and the patch. In fact, I may have forgotten to resave the weapondata.ini through the editor and that's why I'm missing the entries. I tweaked the ini by hand for the B-58 weapons. Also, I'm not sure my weapon pack install went quite right. I have a ton of files outside of their folders. I've been rearranging things by hand for a couple weeks now. LODs and BMPs were not in their folders. -
B-47 for SF1&2?
Squiffy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yup, just looking for the aricraft. No sign of it in SF2 Europe. Would love this swept wing bird. Going for the Cold War period. -
B-47 for SF1&2?
Squiffy replied to Squiffy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Ka-POW! OK that one hit me. But those graphics aren't searchable are they? He-he, no worries. I'm still learning the culture here. At least I didn't leave my cover on after entering the O club. -
B-47 for SF1&2?
Squiffy replied to Squiffy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks Wrench but those are just skins. Suhsjake, another website does not really count since it wasn't indexed here. ;) I mean really, "hard enough" does not equal "indexed well enough." I remember the other sites now so thanks for the reminder. Maybe a referral list could be in a sticky? Something that a search for aircraft numbers would pick up. OK no hard feelings just no free time lately. ;) I'll get to it eventually. -
Trees in Afghanistan
Squiffy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi gang. I have Afghanistan working fine in my SF2 Europe mod install. I've modified airbase files to create an Iranian and Taliban presence for single missions. I think I have all of the files for trees but I dont' see them show up like in the Afghan/WOI home screen. I suspect the tiles are not right or something. How can I make it work in a Europe core, without an Israel core? I've been through the KB and nothing specific shows up. Thanks. -

Sorry for the wait dude. Much props to the creators. Here are my screenies and the all important TODs. The folder is your afghan terrain folder. Oh yeah, this makes trees on runways. Got to get that tweak. I have low settings for my slow agp 4x slot. _ -
Hi gang, I've looked through the KB and this information is pretty scarce. I want some help adjusting ingame performance after evaluating the FM and finding everything "by the numbers" for the most part. In my particular example, the B-58A, the main numbers look good but the performance does not match. I first tried increasing thrust on the engine to get her up to supersonic performance if not more. It helped a little but still would barely break 600 without overheating the engines. I increases the thrust to something like 70K dry, 90K wet for ridiculous go fast power. It still doesn't pan out even over 20K alt. Then I looked at drag coefficients. I tried cutting those in half and then lost any stick input. Just flew straight and level. Throttle worked great. I might have actually broke 700 finally too. So I need help. Should I stick with the Cd edits but par them down some. I noticed the engine pods have no drag data at all! Thanks

FM editing

Awesome! Thanks Fubar. I have another confession to make...I am a BONEHEAD! Can you say "hard" flight model? (FC I'm sure this was a big part of the problem) Duh, I forgot I had turned it down last week. I also trimmed the Cd's again but this time only by a couple 100ths or so. I'll go set them back and fly properly on hard fm. She sure is sweet when you get up to speed. I was trimming out the cockpit too. I downloaded an F-4B early type, but that cockpit uses F-4J parts. Anyway, I like the way mine looks now, especially with the F-104 seat and the red headrest. It's not an escape pod but a nice compromise. Here's a screenie: _ -

Thanks Fubar, and sorry FC. I was too lazy or maybe tired, to get up over 30,000 feet. I was tweaking the nav lights afterall. There's one on the top front of the tail and one on the back right below the tail gun radar pod. You can see these clearly in the "Fail-Safe" footage, and on the Monogram mode and in the photos. ; ) I'm not sure about under the TCB pod. Very cool all the same. Props to the model crew. -
Runway, Taxiway upgrade
Squiffy posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi gang, I discovered that it's easy to increase the resolution for terrain tiles in airfields. Just increase the file size to 512 or 1024 in an editor with a descent scale plugin. My taxiways a real sharp now, nice detail even at low detail setting in options. No frame hit on a 512 card. Taxiways are 256 so stretch to 512. Runways are 512 so stretch to 1024. That didn't look as good but it may just be the detail settings and my option tweaks. Any comments? I just bought the sim last weekend. Enjoying it now that my deadzone is set properly. -

Squiffy replied to Squiffy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Well the TODs did the trick but not from GermanyCE. I downloaded the Israel update from here and got a look at the Israel .tods. Found the nomenclature to be very close and went with that. Just had to add "IS" to the beginning of each file. So they became ISFARM1.tod and so forth. I copied the most similar tods for each .bmp I could match and it looks like it's working well. Thanks for the help. Squiffy. -
Problem with F-22
Squiffy replied to woojay's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes, AFAIK, the doors are automatic. It was this way in the Novalogic sims. I trust it's accurate. They animate fully when you pickle the bombs. Those small diameter bombs are something. Got to get good skins for them. No CCIP or drop cue however. Maybe I missed something? -

Thanks Wrench. I appreciate the support so right back at you... The KB here is massive and it grows every day. I think a nice feature would be to extract important elements for the long lists of posts under a topic and reindex them somehow. That would take a ton of work and time that we don't really have, I know. But the WIP threads and others that have an updated list on the last post page is a good start. Lets build on that. By the way, I don't think I have enough room for a Korea install but maybe I can add another external drive? All the folders have to be under the same drive right?
