  1. Is there anybody you know of in the states where you could have it sent to? I mean I had BHaH in like 3 or 4 days. Then you could go across the and pick it up. But what would the hassle be of getting it through customs is the only thing. That's some bad luck there PP. Trying to get anything through the mail this time of year here is a nightmare for sure though. I try to avoid mail order from Thanksgiving through to New Years. My Mom worked at the Postal Annex in Denver Co, and it was mayhem around the Holiday Season. She was always exhausted until the season was done.
  2. Driving through the rough stuff is always a good humbler. The level of respect gained is always equal to the ammount of pucker you have. The ice can be just as bad if not worse though. Darn icestorms off the big lakes can really suck sometimes. Although they look beautiful if the clouds clear off quick, and the sunlight reflects off the branches of the trees, but it can get very dangerous too. Even walking can be hazzardous to your health.
  3. Yep, I keep a few screenies of my settings so that I can run the Configuaration set up after any driver updates without too much hassle.
  4. T O T Best PC Speakers

I have a 200 watt stereo amplifier rigged up to my 'puter, and it pumps sound that rocks the hood through 200 watt 5 way Kenwood upright speakers. It will make your ears ring! The china in the cabinet vibrates from the volume.
  5. What would be neat, is to give it a good mix depending on the squadron you are engaged with. The better squadrons would usually get the better pilots from the flight schools. Especially on the German side. But even with the rigors of combat losses, and losses to accidents, there should always be a good mix of low to high quality pilots spread throughout the squadrons. To keep the better quality squadrons more accurate, maybe tweak them individually so they have a higher quantity of good to excellent flyers, and the other squadrons having a lower quality rating with more mediocre pilots and just a few real good ones. This would seem to reflect what has been conveyed and written about the structures of the different air arms on the opposing sides. With Germany and France tending to group better pilots into "elite" squadrons, where the British actually had the better standard of "spreading the wealth" so to speak, so that neophytes and mediocre pilots could benefit from the knowledge and experience of the better flyers.

    Or increase the drinking!
  7. HItR original AI

The only thing I would change with the tamed AI, is that they weave or take defensive actions when attacked. Some of the planes flying straight while you pummel them is true to how many novices behaved (feezing up under fire). At least according to combat reports from WWI, and WWII, and the testimony of aces who survived the wars(s). That's why the first 5 flights into combat were the most important. If you survived those, your chances of living increased. But it doesn't guarantee you'll see it through to the end. Which makes you even more caustious before engaging the enemy. Especially if you have a long lived pilot. You get better with tactics through experience like a real pilot, as you will sometimes live long enough to work out the intricacies of combat, and the different planes you fly. But I must agree that the mindless terminator AI is rather frustrating, which ruins the fun of it as there is no way to tone it down, or at least have a mix of AI quality in a fight. As an example, while flying with Jasta 11, in spring and early summer 1917, there are 9 of you against 10 E/A, and in a few minutes you are outnumbered 10 to 1 as your whole squad is knocked down. That doesn't mean to make it arcadish, or kiddie game in nature, but a better balance of offense and defense is needed along with better mix of AI "quality". As the enemy always seems to have better quality than my squadmates. But with the AI being toned down, there is at least a chance of surviving and fighting on. I still lose pilots, but not to the extent that it makes playing the game a bummer. This is just an observation on my part. I know there is a learnig curve to flying and fighting just like any simulator. Last flight I had to dive for the deck as I neglected my six, and took a packet which ruined my engine, and forced me to land, but I at least had 7 squadmates to keep them off me while I made my escape to the deck. It's kinda nice to have that. I didn't lose my pilot as I was able to land on my side of the lines, but at least it didn't end like it used to 99 times out of 100, with fire and the loss of another pilot, and starting all over again. This may also help expand the customer base. If people know that there is a learning curve, but it isn't impossible to master, or requires a very long time to get the hang of, they may be more atracted to the product. I like OFF as it is the the best WWI simulator out, but I used to step away from it more as it was frustratingly consistant. I have flown it more in the last week than I have in the last 2 months, as I'm actually starting to get a grip on things without setting everything to novice which in itself is kinda' bogus. I like having a challenge, but it's nice to make it to the top of the mountain every once in a while.
  8. I got myself an early Christmas present. It's an old book that I used to have that was hardbound, but I'm just happy to have been able to replace it! The Cover The Planes Sections of interest Info on the SE5 & SE5a And 3 view drawings of the SE5a I used the 3-view drawings to make plans for free flight models for my son when he was 5 to 8 years old. He liked having them hanging from the ceiling in his room, but he really liked going out and flying them. Before the days of scanners, I would take the book to the library and Xerox the drawings and enlarge them to an average size of about 16 to 18 wingspans, and then use them as a base for the plans. Built the planes from balsa with color tissue. Even the markings were color tissue doped on. We used to have a lot of fun with them when he was a youngster. Of special note, the SE5s of 24 Squadron rigged their mounts with reduced dihedral for better manoeuverability. Look at the bottom photo on the above page.
  9. Thanks for the info! Never knew of it. Learn something new everyday!
  10. Anyone know this film?

Haven't seen it in about 35 years. It's ok from what I remember. It's got that old we're the good-guys, they're the bad-guys hollywood approach to it.
  11. Naw, I don't have them anymore. They went bye-bye during the divorce. The ex I think has pictures of the Neiuport 17 with a scratchbuilt Lewis Gun mounted on the top wing. She may even have pics of the little triplane. It looked good, but wasn't a good flyer unless it was dead calm out. The best ones were the Albatros DV, Pfalz DIII, and the SE5a, as they have long fuselage lengths and a good portion in front of the wings for balance purposes. But if they were still around, they would be 16 to 19 years old. Flying models don't usually last that long. Even the model Sopwith Camel Dad built back in the 50's went to dust when I tried to get it out of the rafters in gramp's basement. The tissue paper covering gets very brittle from the dope aging. So does the balsa wood. But they were fun while they lasted!
  12. I never use it. Although since I don't have T/IR, I do use padlock while fighting. I just turn it on and off to get a view of where the opponent is in reference to my plane.
  13. SH3 and SH4 are two different animals. It just depends on what you like. I prefer the US Fleetboats over the Uboats. But with the Supermods out for it now, Trigger Maru Overhayled is now to version 1.9. Real Fleetboat 1.5(?). And it looks like Fall Of The Rising Sun is coming into it's own finally. There were some bugs that needed to get sorted out.
  14. False Positive

That should work Mr. Lucky. Mine was doing it before HITR, and thought there had to be a way of getting it sorted. It was just annoying more than anything.
  15. HITR First Impressions

Not sure what you guys tweaked, but I have noticed the planes are a bit smoother in the air, how should I put it, um, more like they are actually flying in a real enviornment. Thanks, it seems better all the way round, and it seems like were not getting outnumbered on either side in the campaign on every mission. That was getting a little old, going up with a flight of 3 or 4 and every combat going up against 12 to 16 planes all the time. They are more sporatic now, and there are times when they have the numbers, or it's even, or we have the numbers. It gets a good mix now. Again Thank You Guys For All The Efforts!!!!!
  16. dh 5 structure on wing

But if you do, try to keep a long stick in the pit, and a package of hotdogs, and marshmallows.
  17. False Positive

Uncleal, I'm not sure how AVG works, but maybe they have a option in the suite that lets you add files to ignore. That took care of it for me in Avira Antivir. It works similar to the DEP problem that XP had with some of the older simulators. You just added the file that was tweakin' the program out to a list that made XP ignore that file. It was usually a .exe file that would trigger the DEP issue, and cause game(s) to crash. Just an idea!
  18. You got that straight. Me too.
  19. False Positive

Got the same thing, but go here: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/50192-off-exe-manager-is-registering-as-a-trojen/ I have a little proceedure for getting around the irritation. I got it from the Avira Forum.
  20. HITR First Impressions

First impressions are GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGreat! Nice job guys! Nice job! Being an American, I can say zat zee Neiuport 28, ist a very nice aeroplane! To shoot down!
  21. Go to the Campaign menu with your active pilot. Under the Aircraft Type it says personal skin. There are a bunch there to choose from depending on the type of plane, and how many squadrons were alocated that particular type.
  22. Downloading as I type. The order went through and by the time I checked the old email box, the link was there ready to go! Thanks guys for the efforts! I know it will be nice having this.
  23. I'll take fiery redhead Oh, no wait,,,,, That's what the exMrs is!!!!
  24. Look at this!

Think you're right on that one! At least with a full trash truck, the winds didn't bother me too much. But once I was full, I averaged about 6k to 10k over GVW, but that's because we didn't have anyway to weigh the truck to know what value we were at. And the office would have had a fit if I went to the dump too soon. But then they had a fit if you brought in overweight tickets too, so it was damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. I knew too many backroads to get caught at the scales though.
