Carrick58, it is built from a Balsa USA kit, they have several WW I kits, 1/4 & 1/3 scale. They are not completely scale but with a little work you can make them into a reason representation. I guess I need to explain the yellow paint, the photo shows a more neon color than the actual color on the airplane and the bright sunlight didn't help. Also, this picture was taken before I completed the weathering of the airplane. That is a process where you add an aged look, such as oil streaks and a dirty wore look. This is done with an air brush and shrubbing newspaper print on the painted surfaces. Every two years the USAF Museum in Dayton Ohio has a three day Dawn Patrol event featuring full scale flying WW I aircraft and RC scale aircraft, displays, rein-actors dressed period costumes and vehicles of the era, of course there are the ventors. This event has a huge following, people come from all around the world to attend. This year it is September 24-27 2011, but they will skip 2013 and hold it in 2014 to mark the beginning of World War I. It well worth a visit. Rich -

Olham, I am trying to find information on Ltn dR Kurt Monnington, he flew Fokker D VII with Jasta 18. I am building a 1/4 scale RC model of his Fokker D VII, the picture I have of his craft is red & white with the Raven and skull & cross bones on the side of the airplane. I like to do the scale documentation on the pilot as well as the airplane. I have not been able to find much information on him. Do you know of a web site where I might find out more about him? My last 1/4 scale Fokker D VII was flown by Erich Lowenhardt, I found some goof information about him and his D VII. Unfortunately, it crashed at a scale event and was a total loss. The scale model won 6 trophies in the 2 years it competed in the scale events. This is a picture of Erich Lowenhardt's Fokker D VII -

I have read several of his books and I enjoyed them all. Louisiana is a very different place, I live about 300 mile away from the state and in some areas it is like entering another country. The people we encountered on our five day road trip in the MG were very friendly and open. But some times it was hard to understand what they saying. Burke, is a very good read, he keeps you interested. I would recommend his books Rich -
Most my pilots are from Germany, early in the war (late 1916 & 1917) flying the Albatros . I have tried other countries and aircraft but I feel more comfortable with the Albatros. Rich

OT: A New Project Followed Me Home

This is my '64 MGB. I bought it in 1986 when I was stationed at Hollman AFB NM from a young USAF Captain, whose parents bought it new while they were stationed in England. It was painted green and the interior need replacement, very little body work was needed. After a little tuning on the engine, it run great. The car had 57076 miles on it, I still use the original top and tonneau cover that came with the new car. Also, he had the showroom booklets, drivers manual, tuning manuals and a workshop manual which is great for repairs. After I replace the interior myself, I had it painted Red. I drive it in Shriner parades and warm early evenings and the occasional road trips. I have had do do very little repairs only normal maintenance, the only changes are, a 12 volt battery located under the hood and a new radio. The wife and I just love this little car! Rich -
This is Kyle Franklin do his drunken pilot routine. This video was taken at Ada Oklahoma air-show about 4 year ago, our last air show together. Our Air Show team (Oklahoma Barnstrormers) performed with Kyle, his wife, Karen and his dad, Jimmy Franklin, for about five years throughout Oklahoma ,and Kansas. Jimmy flew a Waco Biplane that had a jet engine mounted on the bottom of the fuselage. The Waco performed amazing aerobatics with the jet engine fired up. Kyle and his wife did the wing walking on the Waco while Jimmy flew a wild routine. Jimmy Franklin was kill while performing his routine at an air show about 5 years ago. Kyle and Karen began performing with the Piper Cub and set about acquiring another Waco. In March of this year Kyle and Karen were performing at an air show in his Waco biplane with Karen doing the wing walking. A fire developed in the Waco's engine, and Kyle setup for a crash landing. Karen did get back into the front cockpit before the airplane hit the ground. The airplane burst into flames, Kyle got out but went back to pull Karen out of the burning plane. Kyle received burns to his face and arms but Karen was badly burned. Just this past week Karen died from her burns. The Air Show Community mourns this tragic loss.

I got my TrackIR 5 a couple days ago, installed it ok. I did fly missions in Quick Combat on the basic setting but the movement is too quick, don't get full range view, I can't look at my 6 and I have a hard time tracking other airplanes. I have read the trackIR set up General Help but the instructions and pictures are for TrackIR 4. I have read through all the threads in general discussions (to page 25) and the OFF BHAH General help ( all the pages). On page 15 in General discussions, Olham's thread "New TrackIR Profile for fighters" he said we could use his example of his profile, it did not give a link to profile or how to view it. I must admit, I am not good with computers. It is hard for me to understand what I must do to get the best results. For example, Olham discussed " Setting the FOV (field of view) on page 11, I tried to adjust my settings with no luck. so I put them back to the default setting. I I have Microsoft Flight sim 2004 & MS Combat 2 and I had no problem down loading & installing airplanes, adventures, and campaigns. So I do know some of the basics but I can't seem to apply them to OFF. Please, I do need help, I am very frustrated. I fly OFF campaign missions daily and I agree this is not game, it is much more. I love it! Thanks Rich

Thanks Olham, I will try it. I have been reading these forums for a long time and it looks like you are the guy to go to for help. Thank you for all that you do for us. Now if I can just get the FOV set correctly. Thanks again Rich

Or you can try my own personal newest profile - it is pretty much "one to one", and I have much improved the "Yaw Axis" in that way, that it doesn't require turning your had so far anymore, to get to your six. Still, it works pretty smooth. I attach a zipped version here. You need to unpack it and throw it into C: programs > NaturalPoint > TrackIR. Enjoy! Olham, I down loaded your profile, Copied it to paste in C: programs> NatualPoint>>TrackIR, but it would not allow me to paste it. I am running windows 7 and thing work different than my XP. Also does your profile not go in C:programs>NatualPoint>TrackIR>Profiles? Does anyone who has window 7 know how to drop in or paste something in a file? I am making progress, I change the speed & smooth setting in Basic and was able to do some quick combat, I can see this will take practice to be accustom to it. I bought a new computer system a few months ago, running windows 7 with a flat screen monitor, HP 2010 series Wide LCd monitor. Resolution 1600X900 (recommended). It would help if got the FOV settings correct. One thing I noticed was the print is very small and hard to read for the (Cycle Info) and status messages . Can these be changed to make it easier to read?

I have been building& flying RC airplanes for years and have met many wonderful people around the world. In the last 20 years I have building the larger scale airplane, 6 to 7 ft wing span for biplanes and 9 to 11 ft. span for monoplanes, all powered with gasoline engines. I now build only WW I 1/4 scale airplanes such as the Fokker D VII, Sopwith Pup, Fokker Eindecker and a SPAD XII. Because of their size adding scale detail work is much easier and more visible. The best web site that deals in scale model building is http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/ you can follow some of their build along thread from start to maiden flight. There are some truly magnificent scale builders who produce perfect scale flying airplanes. Like this site, people from all around the world use this site to display their work and are quick to offer advise. Some of the WW I models kits are from the topics BALSA USA, Scratch Built and Other Designs. These threads are an interesting read. Also, you can check out some of my planes and construction at our club web site http://okbarnstormers.com/. This is a great hobby! Rich

What setting do you have that displays this minor damage to the aircraft. I only major damage such as a damaged wing tip displayed. Thanks Rich -

Where did you buy your Track IR 5, and how much did it cost? Is it hard to set up on your computer? Thanks Rich -
How do you advance time while you are flying a campaign? Thanks Rich

I have flying OFF for some time now and recently installed the "Hat in the Ring" package. I did soon notice the improvements, also it is harder to get kills without running out of ammo, the buffeting of the wind made it harder to stay on target. This is the best combat simulator out there. Here are a couple pilot log books since I installed the Hat in the Ring package. I have all my settings to normal and fly with the roll of the die setting. These are 2 Aces. Rich

Thanks Olham, I did get it to work. I had XP operating system for a very long time and 7 is still new to me. Thanks again By the way, I was stationed at Bittburg Air Base Germany at 1981 to 1985. Those were the best years of my Air Force career, beautiful country, very nice people and I loved the food & beer. I traveled Germany and Europe a lot. Rich

Question for RAF_LOUVERT; #20, How did you copy the log book screen? I have saved some screen shots but I can't save/copy the log book page. Thanks Rich

I recently bought the Hit in the Ring add-on, installed the up-dates and began play. The first thing I noticed the picture was like it was out of focus, I made changes in workshop to fix it but little difference. I fly the same campaigns I always flew and only noticed a few additional airplanes. Any suggestions What is the advantage? Thanks for your help, Rich

I do enjoy the OFF theme, it seems so fitting. The best movie theme I like is the theme from the movie "The Blue Max". We used this music during the WW I dogfight reenactment routine when our Club Air show Team " Oklahoma Barnstormers" performed at Air Shows. All of our routines were performed to music, it added to the performance. Rich

Thanks for everyones comments and advice. I did go back and read the features listed hat in the ring. I recently bought a new computer with a larger flat screen monitor, it exceed all the requirements suggested for OFF. I followed you fellows advice and made changes in the monitor settings. Things are working fine now, but the wording on the Info and aircraft labels are very small and hard to read when I use full screen. I have also noticed that kills are not as easy now. I 'll just have to work a little harder for the kill. Computers have always been hard for me to master. When they are working That Great, but if something changes, I am lost. I do the club web site, and I have a step by step to get information up on our site. If for some reason I can't change a page or photo posted using these steps then I am totally confused. I usually call a friend for help. Yes, there is a learning curve with OFF, I guess I am a little slow. Thanks again for all of your help Rich

PHASE 4 WORK IN PROGRESS SCREEN SHOTS!
jwrich replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Maybe this question has been answered somewhere but I missed it. Will phase 4 be a stand alone program with its own DVD disk or will it be an add on to BH&H. I have been playing phase 3 for almost a year and I was going to get the Hat in the Ring attachment. But if phase 4 is a stand alone, I'll wait and buy it. Thanks Rich -
It is easier to fly a full scale airplane than flying a RC airplane. I flew light planes for years and it is easier to see & feel when you are climbing, descending , your airspeed and lined up on glide path. With RC planes you must judge all these factors from the ground. It is easy to learn the sticks, that the instructor can show you, these other factor must be learned on your own by lots of practice. During the training, the instructor has the main transmitter controlling the airplane, the student has a transmitter that is connected the main transmitter. The instructor holds a button down while the student flies the plane, if he gets into trouble the instructor releases the button and saves the airplane. During the landing phase, the instructor does not always have enough altitude or time to save the aircraft. So the instructor makes sure the student has mastered the above factors before the landing phase begins. Add a little crosswind and things get a little dicey. It is important to fly a scale routine at events and competitions. This is what makes flying WW 1 airplanes fun. Rich

Is this your Fokker D VIII? If so, do you go to the Dawn Patrol Event at Dayton Ohio at the Air Force Museum? I have been building and flying RC airplanes for more than 30 + years. The last few years I have been interested in the WW 1 era, studying the history of the time and the airplanes. I have built 1/4 scale Fokker E III Eindecker, Fokker D VII, Sopwith Pup and at present building a 1/4 scale SPAD 13. This interest is what brought me to OFF. Here are pictures of my planes Rich

This is picture on my desk top of a couple of the R C 1/4 scale WW I aircraft I built and fly at many of the Dawn Patrol events around the country. The Sopwith Pup and the Fokker D VII. Rich
