  1. So it's not just me? I got lost the other day somewheres around northern France, couldn't find St. Omer for the life of me. Went down to an aerodrome to "ask for directions" (check the in-game map), and right before landing... SON OF A !#*!%, WHO PUT A FENCE HERE?! Wheels clipped the damn thing pretty hard, and after that I couldn't get my engine to start anymore, so I had to spend the day with those chaps. Truly, war is hell.
  2. I'd like to know this as well actually. Lou made me a nice Sopwith Camel skin a few years back that I'd like to use in WOFF if at all possible.
  3. WOFF overpriced. Is it just me?

My favorite is a dynamic SP campaign flight sim in the tradition of Red Baron 3D. That's what I love about WOFF, it fills and exceeds that old void. If I could only take one flight sim with me to a desert island, it would be this one. But I also love multiplayer flight sims. IL-2 Cliffs Of Dover with the most recent patches and using teamspeak on the ATAG server, at full realism, with no visual aids and complex engine management. That is god tier gaming. Buuuuut at the end of the day I do prefer a (good) SP campaign. Multiplayer, at the end of the day, is always team deathmatch, which can only be so interesting for so long. WOFF makes history come to life and will always be my favorite.
  4. First Three WOFF Flights

Out of curiosity, what control setups are you lot using? I swear, I have zero issues keeping up with and maintaining formation with my Camel squadron. It's become second nature, but it does require regular throttle/stick/mixture adjustments.
  5. I can answer at least some of these: 1. Not this one I'm afraid. As a mere 2nd Lieutenant, I never fly formation lead. However, I can tell you that the other pilots maintain formation wonderfully, and more importantly, I can keep up with them and maintain formation as well. This was never, ever possible in OFF because AI aircraft didn't have to adhere to the same limitations you do. In WOFF, I keep up with them and fly alongside in my designated area for the entire mission, from beginning to end. 2. I've seen two-seaters maintain close formation and mount quite a spirited defense, but I can't say whether or not this happens every time because I've only done 20 missions or so and only run into two-seaters a handful of times. 3. Again, I never issue any orders from tail-end Charlie. I'm just a pleb! 4. The AI never rollercoasters anymore at low-level. This is gone entirely in my experience. Also, the OFF tendency for AI to dive immediately upon making contact (which annoyed me to no end) is also gone. I've seen AI planes make mistakes and crash on occasion, but I really think it's intentional and working as planned. For instance, on two occasions I've seen AI pilots in my squadron make fatal errors. In the first, the fellow collided with the flight leader just before contact with a flight of recon planes (he actually survived, the flight leader was the one who died), and in the second a pilot ripped his own wings off during a dive. On both occasions, the AI pilot's dossier listed average to below average morale and meh flying skills. Also, I should note that after the mid-air collision, the rest of the flight immediately abandoned the attack on the two-seaters and went home. 5. The AI never follows you home anymore, "duels to the death" are completely over. Every single air battle I've had in WOFF has ended more or less indecisively. Nobody, on either side, continues fighting to the last man. During the largest air battle I've seen so far in my campaign, in which 20+ aircraft were engaged at once, my squadron only claimed two Germans at a loss of one Camel crash landing and being written off. In OFF, a battle like that would have only ended with one side's complete annihilation. Also, in my most recent "report from the front," I mention a Jasta 15 AI pilot that engaged me and deliberately broke contact and headed for home when neither of us could get the advantage over the other. Basically, WOFF's AI equals the AI in Rowan's Battle of Britain (which I played A LOT, along with BoB2) and very possibly surpasses it, given the sheer number of variables and decision making the AI makes at any given time.
  6. Mapping Project

Speechless over here. Keep up the great work!
  7. Very understandable, wishing you a great holiday season Von Bauer. WOFF will be waiting!
  8. WOFF overpriced. Is it just me?

Listen, I've paid a lot more than $60 for a certain epic tank sim, and I'm not even into tanks all that much. For WOFF, the sequel to OFF and spiritual successor to RB3D, which brings to life my favorite era in aviation? $60 is too little for the years and years of good times I'm going to get out of this sim.
  9. Mapping Project

Yea I've also been wondering where Lothar's at. And Bletchley and Bullethead. Lou, this project seems insane. Yet that's quite fitting considering you're the man with the massive library of original editions and complete. WW1 aviator uniform. Wish you the best, and if anyone can make an epic map for WOFF, I know it's gonna be you. Ps, I've been using the 1916 maps in WOFF you uploaded for OFF a year or two ago. Thanks for those!
  10. First Three WOFF Flights

At least in the Camel, my squadron flies at a steady 90mph. I can stay with them without great difficulty by constantly working my HOTAS setup. They never go to 100 percent throttle unless they see the enemy.
  11. I let myself get assigned to a squadron after training. Have currently done 10 combat missions with RFC-73 in April 1918, an elite rated Sopwith Camel squadron. It's been fun, but the sector I'm in is seeing the full force of the Spring Offensive, so things are excruciatingly dangerous and casualties have been high. I fear I won't live to see May.
  12. First Three WOFF Flights

As someone who's managed to fly in formation for all of my WOFF missions so far, I haven't really noticed any issues in this area. In OFF I could never keep up, in WOFF I can do so quite comfortably, although it does require me to make constant throttle and heading adjustments.
  13. WOFF overpriced. Is it just me?

Afraid it really is just you chap. WOFF is standard price for any sim/game of any kind these days. Completely, nothing to see here standard. OFF was the one that was underpriced at $30. WOFF is a niche product serving a niche community within a niche genre of computer games. It's not going to sell enough copies to compensate the Devs for their four years of labor. Frankly it's worth more. A tank sim I like to play, also a niche product serving a niche community, sells for well over $100. Independent developers need the support. Honestly, I'd strongly encourage you to reconsider your position on this one. Support the artists that keep our community alive, or there won't more WW1 sims, and there are already a terrifyingly few amount.
  14. Expolsions upon impact...

Well, there isn't that much in these buckets worth igniting. It can happen, but in general it's just like dropping a large wooden object from 1,000 feet. The thing just shatters instead of exploding.
  15. I am indeed. I've been busy with work and family issues, and that does keep my mind occupied. But I visit this forum and SimHQ at least once a day to see how things are going with the release, and everyone's stories absolutely do make me want to hurry up and get things sorted so I can start flying again. Few more days I'm thinking. I just bought a new 240GB SSD, thinking I'm going to hook that into my PC, install WOFF onto it and let the good times roll.
  16. Sounds like a good time fellows. I myself haven't had a chance to play WOFF yet or even install it, but it's been sitting safely on my hard drive since release day. In a few days, I'll set my HOTAS up and join you chaps up in the unfriendly skies... hope you're still alive by then!
  17. Thoughts and prayers, Typhoon. Here's hoping you're flying in WOFF with us soon.
  18. WOFF is now available!

Sopwith brought up an interesting point about the WW1 sim community. Now that 777 is committed to working on the next IL2, are we the last bastion?
  19. WOFF is now available!

This is the worst thing that has ever happened to anyone. Ever. I grieve with you, comrade.
  20. WOFF is now available!

It can be a bit wonky. My download mysteriously cancelled on me so I had to start a new one. On my internet it only takes a few minutes to d/l though, I imagine that would have been really lame if it had taken 5 hours.
  21. WOFF is now available!

OFF was underpriced. $59.99 is standard for console and PC games with FAR less longevity than Flanders Fields. Think about the work>cost ratio here, and then also consider our community's smaller demographic than, say, the Call of Duty fanbase. Day 1 purchase for me and quite happy about it! Eternal gratitude to the Devs for slaving these last four years!
  22. Since I know we don't all hit up the SimHQ forums, I just learned that the original target release of WOFF was this weekend (!!!) but it's not going to happen now because of distribution issues outside the Dev's control. So now it's pushed back until early next week. I'm pretty blown away by this one. When they said "December," I kinda assumed mid December at the earliest. This is more like "the release is imminent." I thought I'd have at least a week or two to work out the kinks in my HOTAS/TrackIR setup, but it's looking like I need to get on that right now. Yikes!
  23. Is WOFF strictly solo flying?

No multiplayer for now. They've said that adding it would make development take quite a bit longer and they want to focus on the SP experience. I don't know if they're considering multiplayer later on.
  24. New WOFF Forum

I don't particularly mind the SimHQ forums, I've contributed to them here and there for over a decade now. But this is the original home of OFF, it's where the BOC is and I like the fellows here, so this is where I hang out.
