  1. I really hope it's a PSU failure. The tester is a good buy. Honestly, that's the cause in most "sudden failures" of this sort. But we'll see. IF it is your MoBo that will be annoying, but knowing is better than not knowing. The tester will help you isolate the problem. Keep us updated, I'm rooting for you.
  2. * * PHASE 4 PREVIEW MOVIE 1 ! * *

Yep. I just saw this for the first time today. And have watched it three times since. If I could draw a South Park character of my likeness like Lou and Olham, there'd be another one just like it right here. Use your imaginations! The idea of tracking AI pilots and aircraft repairs is what really knocked me on my ass. This is going to take me right back to my glorious RB3D days. I need to get back in the cockpit and finish off my RAF campaign now that I have a new computer that will run P3 better than ever, and P4 to boot. I can't wait to see more of P4 (or are we calling it OFF 2 now?). It's easily my most anticipated game/sim/time machine of the year.
  3. OT: Miserable Computer Experience

Very sorry to hear about your troubles Sopwith. Laptops, in my humble opinion, are more trouble than they're worth. I have a MSI GX620 that, quite literally, started falling to pieces and becoming unhinged soon after it fell out of warranty, to the point where it became unusuable without an external monitor and effectively rendering it a low-powered desktop. The laptop before that one randomly fried on me one day, also out of warranty. Maybe MacBooks ARE better, but I've never owned one and won't since I've sworn off laptops entirely. These days I use only my self-built desktop, which I know and trust, and all my mobile computing is done via tablets. I find I'm much more hassle free that way. I hope your situation gets resolved. I think we all know how incredibly frustrating it is when the simplest things go awry, particularly when we buy them with the goal to make our lives easier. Cheers
  4. OFF at its best

Yes I'd like to get flying again too. Bristol is nice and all but I miss my old SE!
  5. You built the PC yourself right? Situation like this, best thing to do is to disassemble it and put it back together outside the case one piece at a time, testing your boot by listening to the beeps after each time you add on a new piece. If you've removed the GPU and RAM, and aren't getting ANY beeps from that MoBo, that's a bummer. It could be a bad power supply? I'm hesitant to blame the MoBo itself, those things should be pretty sturdy. Though it would hardly be unheard of, that is the usually the thing I blame only after exhausting the alternatives. I would ask around on Tom's Hardware as well, that's where I took my questions when I was putting together my PC in October and was having a failed boot. In that case it was the RAM, but my MoBo was beeping at me to indicate that problem.
  6. OT My Favourite War Film

Kudos to the mention of 12 O'Clock High. Add that to my short list of favorites. Such a great movie that is, it really really shows people who were actually in the 8th Air Force were involved in the production. That's a movie ahead of its time. Wasn't it made in the same year as Sands of Iwo Jima? Good lord... also Gregory Peck is just an incredible actor. Another really great one from that era is The Story of GI Joe. I like my war movies b.s. free, and these two certainly qualify in terms of the emotional impact. And 12 O'Clock High uses real battle footage quite seamlessly.
  7. The only other sim I play with any regularity is BOB2, though it's been a while now. No other WW2 sim in my opinion comes close to recreating the feel and scale of those 1940s air battles. Flying into a melee of 1000 aircraft is something that has to be experienced by every flight sim enthusiast to be appreciated. I admit I am interested in trying out some of the online pvp mentioned in this thread. Since I was a kid I've always thought of how fun it would be to fly online in a realism squadron and do some virtual reenactments. But we need a WW1 version. I mean how awesome would World War 1 Online be, with players filling the roles of historical fighter squadrons, going on patrols and busting balloons? Course I wouldn't tolerate any respawning, it would HAVE to be DiD... Drool
  8. OT My Favourite War Film

Does Star Wars count? When I first saw those movies I wasn't yet old enough to realize X-Wings aren't real yet, and so my great ambition in life was to become a pilot. Once I realized the best we had were crummy F-16s I lost all interest in the endeavor In all seriousness, the only ones I can stand to watch are All Quiet on the Western Front and Das Boot. Most of the others I've seen (which isn't too many I'll admit) seem a bit... silly? "War is horrible, bloody and stupid but hey arent these chaps glorious for doing it?". Das Boot and All Quiet thiugh, they're both just masterpieces of cinema, for different reasons. The 1979 remake of All Quiet is also pretty good, though I may be biased because I like Ernest Borgnine and Ian Holm so much. I am a bit anxious about the new version, but it's a good story and could use an update for modern audiences, so long as it respects Remarque's original vision. Every time I see All Quiet I'm reminded of how fortunate we are that it wasn't our generation that had World War 1 thrust upon it. I love when Lew Ayres goes back home and gives that professor a piece of his mind. And Das Boot is just a perfectly brilliant movie. You could almost call it a horror film. It's so claustrophobic, and that ending, after everything they went through to get to port... Well, one of the all time greats as I said.
  9. Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas chums. Eat, drink eggnog and be merry. If she is able to drag me away long enough from TOR, which she probably will, I believe the missus and I will spend the day watching Christmas videos. By which I mean Firefly.
  10. Got the new rig ready for OFF2

Nonsense. I5 and the 560 are quality hardware, plenty to be excited about. That's what I built my own rig out of in October, more than enough to run an game on the market. even better with sli... drool...
  11. 50th Birthday today

Happy birthday chum, and many happy returns.
  12. Rainbox 6 lives again - in 2013

I really loved Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear. Was NOT a fan of the series after they went consoles, in fact that's pretty much what ended it for a good while. Glad they're getting a reboot. The same can be said for Ghost Recon.
  13. Hullo chaps! I'm getting about ready to go back to the unfriendly skies and finish my year-old RFC campaign in EPIC style! I've spent the last week putting together (or well, mostly learning how to put together) my new build. ASUS P8P67 Pro MoBo Intel i5-2500k GTX 560 Ti (intending to SLI in the near future) 750W Power 1TB drive + optical and all that other jazz. Plus I have TrackIR 5 now. Once I get everything hooked up later this week the epic will melt my eyeballs. Anyhoo, tips on transferring my campaign/data files from the POS "gaming laptop" to my new comp?
  14. Dudes I'm trying to set up this TrackIR 5 and it's just not working out for me. My ARMA character is just by default looking LEFT always and no matter how I position this "TrackClip" I can't seem to figure out how to get it straight and LEVEL in the TrackIR desktop app (where you can see the front/top/left views and whatnot). This is driving me insane! Isn't there like ANYWHERE on the internet where there's a simple 'How to' video of any kind? I've looked and have found nothing, like I'm the only one to have issues with this. The Natural Point online documentation is useless btw.
  15. TrackIR help...

Le sigh... nevermind I have it now... after an hour of tinkering I figure it out 5 minutes after asking for help :-p
  16. Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga

Nonsense! There is a world of difference between just now noticing and just now whining
  17. Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga

Yes, I would like to know as well. I visited the forum today specifically to get my Paul Blum fix!
  18. Goshawk Squadron is one of my favorite books, which I read probably every few years or so. What do you all think of the author and his works? You don't have to limit it just to his WW1 aviation works, my personal favorite book of his is Piece of Cake, which just about single handedly had me playing Rowan's Battle of Britain for years. Thoughts?
  19. With thanks...

Even in Forum-Death UncleAl watches over us
  20. Lucky lucky. I never get such moments anymore in October 1918. Each time you even think about relaxing and enjoying the scenery there's another Fokker DVII diving down on you.
  21. On Leave for Twelve Days

Bah. I wish I lived in a place like Europe so I could travel a short ways and be in a whole different country with a different language and culture and... blah! Widowmaker travels from the UK to France in the same time it takes me to go from Wisconsin to... Minnesota. And yet telling people I'm going to Minnesota just doesn't have the same ring to it
  22. Do you seriously have these????
  23. Brand new DM and FM now ready!

Ohhh! Very nice! I'm tempted to make a French pilot now. I don't think I've ever flown French in OFF yet...
  24. Finally Saw It...

That's freaking awesome! I want to see that like right now!
