How to reduce choppy frames
PadFoot replied to PadFoot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What is the HDR mod? I reinstalled ATI 9.5 driver. And patched the game with the latest Oct update. Using the default graphics setup with the AA set to 8X, AF set to 16X, I managed to get a solid 53 FPS performance!!!!!! This is WoE (integrated with WoV) and FE1 also!!!! Having said that, at medium with all these AA and AF settings in place the quality is excessively acceptable. -

That's a brilliant I will certainly try that. But I have also noticed one thing: Unpatched version of WoV, WoE and SFP1 have fluent frame rates. Is that because the stock version doesn't not use complicated rendering technique like shader effects...... -
How to reduce choppy frames

I have done that. Strangely, there are 2 readings. One is the graphics FPS, which reads about 20-30 whereas the CPU FPS is always 59-60. This is what happens in cockpit view (Key F1). For external views both readings are the same. The Catalyst drive I used is 10.3. Now when I reverted back to Catalyst 9.12, both FPS readings are the same no matter external or internal views. The thing is I have better FPS which is above 29. The graphics are set to the lowest resolution and I applied AA=8X and AF=16X. Why? -
Running Wo* on Laptop Computer

I wonder if there are anyone up here who uses Dell Alienware M11x to run TW games. If yes, what is the graphics settings and what sort of FPS are you getting? This Laptop is using C2D SU7300 which I believe is merely a lower mid-range mobile CPU. But it has a not too bad GeForce GT 335M graphics card. Can anyone give me some input? Thanks! -

I intend to use this device for designing and testing user-made missions as well as testing out new mod. Eventually I still play the games on my desktop. -

Good God Almighty! It's too much to refuse watching. CrimSon Tide in my mind...a good scenario with some twists I am sure will definitely be a very good mission. Is that Sub and the SLBM ready for download now? -

Do you really need to patch the FE 1 installation with all the updates you've got from the download section ? Can't you just install FE 1 then patch it up with the Nov Update and that's all? -

Beautiful Clouds
PadFoot replied to PadFoot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I will certainly try. But I am jut now thinking migrating one of the aircrafts from say WoE MiG-17 to FE1. I just love the theatre. Is that also possible? -
When this game came out in 2000, I missed it. It was my lack of interest in helicopter simulation which made me overlooked. In the last 10 years, good simulation games getting less and less. I trust most hard-core gamers will define "good simulation" being nuts & bolts on every keystrokes on the keyboard, buttons on the stick and perhaps both combined. As for me, being a slightly hard-core gamers only, my expectations are not as vigorous as such, but I would definitely say "No" to arcade style flight simulation games as they feel more like action games in the air to me. I must admit that I am obsessed with tech-looking cockpit and MFD really gives me a hard-on! Specially the optical targeting system in the Apache, Ka-52 the Black Shark and other modern jet fighters. But then I don't quite like too advanced technologies like the JDAM which requires no skills in targeting them, or any other GPS kind of weapon systems. I believe GUNSHIP! is just about right. The other thing which really impresses me is that the graphics, though not top notch, still looks very good specially the clouds. The trees also looks good. And the aircraft itself still very presentable. Other features are the Pre-plan and the Debrief screen which I haven't seen something as good in recent years. Glad this simulation stands the time!!

Is there a weather mod?
PadFoot posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have spent some time on this forum reading some of the threads dated back to 2008. Somebody mentioned a weather mod which offers some very nicely rendered clouds, they look very stereo and 3D. But I have found nothing close to that in the Download Section. Can somebody point me to the right website where such good mod can be found? Also what do I need to install the forest terrain for the Vietnam theater? Thanks!! -

Is there a weather mod?
PadFoot replied to PadFoot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Fantastic! Thought it is about the sky not the ground so never looked into the Terrain Mod section . I am running series 1, many thanks!! -
I was watching Dick Schaffert documentary on the F-8 on the History Channel of cable. It is a really good documentary, I mean the graphical simulation is surreal! And the maneuver is so magnificent. I am looking for the F-8 addon and the MiG-17's. Want to put together a scenario just exactly the same as that experienced by Schaffert. There are a number of them up there in the download section. Which are the best have the most accurate avionics? Many thanks in advance.

Question about External View
PadFoot posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wen I hit F6, it goes to the external view that's quite okay. But as I keep pressing F6 on an don again it cycles to the next aircrafts but it takes a long way to go for some aircrafts which is quite some distance away. Now it's good to have some idea as to which group of aircrafts is not within the battlezone...but is it possible to have all the views snap'd? -
Hi, can you tell me where I might find patches for Gunship! and all the mods, I just pirchaed the game a few days agao and it is now sitting ready on my hard disk.

Actually, I want to ask amongst a number of WWI titles, how would you folks list them all in descending order of preference? And likewise for WWII's?
-
Fair enough, I understand now. But what is in my mind is that say I've got Rise of Flight - The First Great War, why would I want to have OFF? Or vice-versa, say I've got OFF, why would I want to have Rise of Flight?

A couple of days ago, I finally got my copy of GUNSHIP! delivered, I am so happy:clapping: You might find me being a bit late, indeed, missed it when it came out 10 years ago. One of the main attractions is its graphics engine, I know it is not first class, but it still stands time, specially the sky and the trees. But what I like mostly is its in-game UI, the pre-flight plan and the debrief screens. But I've found a small problem there is that the sim lacks some view commands. I can only use F9 to view a fly-by, what are the keys for external views and are they pan-able? I heard that there are a few patches which can bring the sim to the most up-to-date release. And are there any mods which enrich this once great chopper sim? Also where I might find a forum which has more information and discussions about GUNSHIP!

Hi folks, Okey, I've finished a little bit of research. OFF has 2 phases right, phase 1 & 2 respectively. Now where I might find them for free? I wish to get hold of them prior to purchasing CFS3. And please do help me on this one: the following shows the box cover of CFS3. Apparently it is being sold by Valusoft and not Microsoft herself, is it good for OFF? Also I am trying to find Firepower for CFS3, but it is not available on neither eBay nor Amazon...?

How to ride a Prop Plane
PadFoot posted a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Hi folks, I love IL-2 1946 because of the graphics and the list of planes you can fly. But what upsets me mostly is stalling. I never get that problem when I fly any modern fighters. Any online manual or guide which teaches you how to fly without stalling. The manual which comes with the game doesn't exactly tell you the tricks. Besides, I am using Saitek Cyborg X joystick which is a bit stiff and requires a little bit of effort to maneuver....thanks! -

I do not have an organized understanding of Energy Tactics and how to apply them! Al I know about it is to go vertical as much as possible to the highest ceiling as I can then maintain it like an eagle flying high to hunt for target below it. But in the heat of the battle, I always find it difficult to get it off my back and regain altitude before re-engaging it. The stick I use is a very primitive - the Saitek Cyborg X. And it is brand new. I'll try to tune it... -

You're right bud, but the Spitfire has a sleek look and it is lighter. It is easier to maneuver than the Hurricane. But indeed, Hurricane outnumbered the Spitfire by kill ratios. -

...just forgotten to mention...it was the time I tried to break left on the horizontal plane, the plane stalled and entered a spin not long after the stall happened... Perhaps I should put my IR Tracker back in place, because I cant really depend on the hat switch for tracking the AI.
