Thanks Peter. Things are shaping up for the EP.

I think this is fixable now. I'll have more later but meanwhile try my Near Clear mod to clear the air. Check the CA files there are other sky mods which may work for you. Please, please resume work on the terrain! . . . and begin to think about the Alps.

[ anyway heres a insignia replacement to play with insignia.rar Thanks P10ppy- this will be useful.

Getting there. Still more to do. Stay tuned!

I am just learning how to do skins. Your post made it much easier to get started. Thanks again. This work will take a few days to get all the details right. There is a lot more to do. Yes, I would like to see more images. It would also be good to have terrain for the AH - Italian front. That is way beyond anything I can even think about doing, but I hope we can get it soon. Meanwhile we can do the skins. Please post more images if it is not too much trouble.

This can be done (only because Christian59 put up the great three view!). It will take a little time to get it right, but it can be done.

Yes, it is true that editing TGA files is a bit tricky, in this case however we already have the 16-17 Maltese crosses as well as the straight line 1918 style. It is simple to recode with whatever label to get the correct result -- or so it seems to moi.
-
Thanks. Meanwhile, to deal with the national insignia question. I believe you can insert a specific TGA file in each skin set. That TGA file can be numbered any way you wish. Usual is INSIGNIA005, INSIGNIA006 etc. but it matters not. The point is you can either copy one from the insignia set or make your own with the correct national insignia for each skin. As in any other mod the TK generic will simply not be referenced for that skin as the local image takes priority. I do not believe this has any effect on other skins even if they appear in the same flight and mission. Of course you can use a number 705, 706. You then make a decal ini [named "Decals" to specify the code number, size and location. The skins for Borts aircraft such as the Halb DII are good examples. If I am correct (and I often manage not to be) there may be no need to choose between 1916-1917 Maltese crosses and the straight line crosses in 1918.

[quoteIf you want to make one and beat me to it then Id love to use yours.. ;) Tex I have no idea how to build a template. I'm still learning how to use one!
-
Thanks Peter!

I agree as to the number. Further, you do not actually need to edit the ini file. Simply add the texture set and the sim will amend the ini file automatically. I have 24 skins in my FD7 folder and I made no edits at all to the ini (as to skin sets).
-
Tex- Did you resolve the template question? I'd like to have a go at PDIII skins as well. I've been away from FE for a long time due to RL health matters so I am not fully up to speed. I did some skins a long while ago and recall that there is a way to tie specific decals to a given skin. I'll try reconstruct how I did that, but I think it is relatively simple. A named mod or addition tot the decal set and a conforming mod to the decal ini.
-
Thanks Poppy- I thought there was a fix, but I wasn't sure if TK had to do it. Out of town for RL fun now. I'll try the fix when I return. It seems simple enough, even for moi! sinbad

Take your time. We'll appreciate it even more! Thanks again for the effort. sinbad

Some inspiration which may be helpful. This looks like it will be fun to skin! sinbad

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...ode=sst&id=5455 File Name: Near ClearFile Submitter: sinbad File Submitted: 3 Nov 2007 File Category: Environmental Mods Near Clear is a minor tweak that eliminates the puffy little cotton ball clouds nearby. The horizon clouds are unaffected. Simply drop the Cloud1 file into your Flight folder. If you want the cotton balls back, remove it. There will be no enduring effect on the game. I have tested it in First Eagles with and without the Expansion Pack, but I see no reason it wont work in other games in this series. Enjoy flying without the cotton balls. sinbad Click here to download this file

Anyone Using JonesSoftGeneric Mod Enabler?
sinbad replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Well, it looks like I have overcome my initial bumbling (though I still DK what I did right this time that I did wrong the first threee times.) The Mainscreen Menu change worked so I'll keep at it. Thanks for your help. -
Anyone Using JonesSoftGeneric Mod Enabler?
sinbad replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
With a new install of FE and then the expansion, I added the JonesSoft Mod Enabler. My first go was to changeout the main screen bmp. After three tries, I did it manually. I must be missing something. -

No matter what, we are in for a real upgrade. Nothing is perfect, certainly nothing I have done. -

There are high quality photos of a replica OEF DIII being built by the Austrian Memorial Flight Association http://memorial.flight.free.fr/indexuk.html. While there were differences in the prop hub, wing roots and other aspects of the two DIII variants (OEF was faster), I do not know of any reports of variations of the fuselage cross sections. IMHO the photos show the sharp joint forward near the wing roots and rounded aft. The images were taken before the fabric was applied. -

There are three views with sections up at Sim HQ. http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/3vues/albatros_d3_3v.jpg which may explain all this. The sides were/are flat, the sections toward the tail are more rounded as they move aft. Everyone appears correct. What is needed seems to be a minor adjustment. Isn't that the point of early release of WIP? No one ever gets everything spot on the first time. -
Very pretty indeed. I especially like the British flag markings. When will all this be in shape to share? This sim is emerging as a early war gem.

I agree that the fus could/should be more rounded. I also suspect that the appearance we see is probably a simpler way to do the design and the skins. I just visited the site. The views are in Inside Peek not the First Eagles forum. I posted re the rounded lower fus - note that the upper fus is nicely curved. I also suggested that the prop hubs on the other A/C (DIII looks AOK) could be trimmed a bit. We'll see. Better to get it later and get it right. Since I am still grounded I can afford to be patient. -
