  1. DFW C.V FM mod: It works!

christian59 Interesting. How does it differ from "real" FM elements? sinbad
  2. I regret to report that Bort now has posted a message regarding an emerging problem with his ISP: " . . . in a strange twist of fate it seems i may have to close the site anyway as the terms and conditions of the webspace provider do not allow for the use of their services for download sites . . i have written to them to ask for confirmation.. which may in itself turn out to have been a dumb idea." http://www.ebort2.co.uk/FE.html Of course this problem, if it happens, could only be temporary, but it may nevertheless be a problem for those who want to D/L this material in the near term. sinbad
  3. This post is now obsolete and superseded by good news. Bort has authorized his work to be uploaded here. Moderators may prefer to simply delete this thread, as I apparently cannot sinbad
  4. Excellent. No need to worry about the ISP . Thanks again. sinbad
  5. Bort's Main Page is Back

Somehow a simple fact seems overlooked. Bort does all of his own work. Models, skins, FMs, web site admin and overall administration. Each of these tasks are shared or divided by most (if not all) others who contribute. Whatever we think of the results (I happen to be a fan), Bort offered his own personally produced gifts. Some of us accepted these gifts. Others did not. There are few who could do all that Bort has done. Even TK does not attempt to "do it all." Well then, perhaps some can do this bit or that bit better (I certainly cannot even begin to model or do FMs). Lately I can't even find time to fly, and what time I have is better spent in the virtual air. Nevertheless I feel I really have to put this post up. Bort has every right to offer gifts and to take them down. I look forward to the other work being offered. Perhaps the co-operative efforts will yield what we may regard as pleasing results. Bort still deserves recognition and thanks. I doubt we will soon find as much under the tree from one donor. Thanks again Bort. sinbad
  6. A bunch of Flight Models

I'm not losing interest, RL has prevented me from flying at all for over a week, all I have time for is to look in on the forums, and DL the latest A/C and FMs. As Peter knows, I am very much interested in this work, it is what makes this sim worthwhile. The work you guys are doing is very important. If I can get some time to fly in the next few days, I may have something intelligent to say about the specifics. Cheers and Salute! sinbad
  7. Need help working with tga files

Salute MOUNTAIN-MAN I used Photoshop Elements 1.0. I cannot say it worked every time, or easily, but it did work. It seems there is another path suggested in this string, using another program, so that may be the better route. sinbad
  8. File Name: Second Alternative Early Maltese Cross 1915-1916 File Submitter: sinbad File Submitted: 12 Apr 2007 File Category: WW1 Aircraft This is a second alternative Maltese Cross to choose from for the early war period. There were many variations, including this one and one made up of four triangles with tips touching for graphically impaired ground crews. If you like it just backup the original TGA file in whatever skin folder you wish to mod, rename this file Insignia005, and fly away! Only the folder you mod should be affected unless that is the key folder to which other Decal.ini files refer. Sometimes this is done for the convenience of the skinner. Once again my screen shot is of the most recent revision of the excellent Fokker EIII which Bortdafram has given to us. Click here to download this file

  10. File Name: Early War German Insignia File Submitter: sinbad File Submitted: 8 Apr 2007 File Category: WW1 Aircraft The Maltese Crosses displayed in 1915 and into 1916 were narrow in the body and wide at the tips, this changed in the latter part of 1916 (sorry I do not have access to my library, so I cannot advise as to the exact date). If you want to use this style, just backup the original version and drop the attached file into the skin folder to replace the standard INSIGNIA005 version. That will replace the insignia in only the skin you select. The attached screen shot is of the newest version of Borts tremendous Fokker EIII. Enjoy! sinbad Click here to download this file

  12. RE-8

While we have a much larger stable of aircraft than I expected so soon after release, it seems to me that we really need an RE-8. This aircraft AKA "Harry Tate' was in service for most of the war and was both a common target and a real challenge to those who were detailed to fly it. If I had the skills, which I do not, I would have a go at it. Since I don't, I have to ask if anyone else will take it on. sinbad
  13. Bravo Edward- I have a little notion of the tremendous amount of work involved in putting this terrain up for us. D/L now. Many thanks! sinbad
  14. No.10 (N) Squadron

Looks great LloydNB, I look forward to loading them- These remind me of Mark Millers images. Have you seen them? sinbad
  15. A bunch of Flight Models

Thanks Peter- I try them later today. You're right to seek to balance the FM's as I often adjust the aircraft mix in the loadout screen. I must report that Sisyphus had it easy though. Bort just released the Martysyde G100 (you probably already know about the Halb DIII. Cheers sinbad
  16. No.10 (N) Squadron

Error for the link when I just tried it. sinbad
  17. WIP

Please keep at it. This will be a good match with the E-III. sinbad
  18. Somethings missing

Does the Se-5 sans Lewis have better speed or ROC? One might expect so, with less drag and weight. sinbad
  19. A bunch of Flight Models

Peter01 Very good! FM tweaking is best done the same way as sculpture, one chip at a time. Thanks for the continuing effort. sinbad
  20. Campaign and mission editing

Firecage- If you have figured something out, please clue me in as well. It would seem that in order for the suggested mod to work, we would need to be certain the service dates for the individual A/C were set for the actual service dates (or at least service dates which coincide with the campaign dates). Some of the A/C no available have arbitrary service dates in the individual files. sinbad
  21. Somethings missing

The Lewis gun is a very impressive bit. I was wondering if it could be exported to other aircraft. I especially like the shell casings flying about. I just rerigged my Se-5as with two triggers. While you have clearly succeeded in removing the gun, I hope you can also manage to mount it on other aircraft. To my totally ignorant eye, that seems like a rather complicated bit of work, with significant tinkering necessary in the config file as well as the models. Assuming you can continue down this path and mate the gun with the other Lewis equipped plane, that will present the issue of consents. I hope neither TK and his team or Capun and the Skunk Works team will mind as this is going to make the other Lewis equipped aircraft (and this sim) even more attractive. Please keep us posted. sinbad
  22. MRCraig41 Thanks for the correction. It's tough to get everything right, but Bort is doing a terrific job. I notice you have also adjusted the MaxAmmo to 400. I do not have access to my library at the moment, but I believe the Spandaus had 500 RPG at this time. That's what I have set for my rig. BTW, in March 1917, Manfred von Richthoven got kills 26 - 31 in a Halberstadt DII http://www.theaerodrome.com/aces/germany/richthofen2.php. As far as I have been able to determine there are no known photos which document the paint scheme on this aircraft. I'd love to find one, though. sinbad
  23. Thanks. Got it. This is also a way to parse out the ammo. A very appropriate mod. sinbad
  24. IndioBlack [quote I modded the Se5 to enable separate triggers for the two different guns. This is authentic for the Se5, . . . This seems like a very worthwhile change. Thanks for coming up with it. Would you please post the mod or explain how to do it? I'd like to try the same. Thanks. sinbad
  25. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...ode=sst&id=4367 File Name: New Loadout Screen for First Eagles File Submitter: sinbad File Submitted: 18 Mar 2007 File Updated: 21 Mar 2007 File Category: Hanger/Menu Screens This is a substitute German theme screen depicting Kesta 4 in 1916, which you can substitute for the Spad hangars that appear in the loadout screen. Simply drop the file in the Menu folder and it will override the Spad screen. If you want to go back, just delete this file and the original will appear. TK is considering adding code which will permit type specific loadout screens for each aircraft, but right now the code only permits one such screen for all aircraft. I prefer the sepia version, which I now post as an update. I think the earlier B/W version will remain on the site- if not and you want BW, it is relatively simple to remove the color.
