SF2V Expansion Pack performance problems
SupGen replied to kampfwolf's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The graphics card. Like Wrench said, make sure your power supply is sufficient (600 watts or so) but go for at least the 6870 over the 6770, (more stream processors, and, I'm pretty sure, more VRAM.) The rest of my system is pretty close to yours ( E8200 Core2 Duo @ 3.16GHz, 4GB DDR2, Vista HP x64 SvcPk2.) -

New Vipers
SupGen replied to Romflyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Romflyer, the Tomcat avionics update is here: http://combatace.com/files/file/12879-f-14ab-avionics-update-april-2012/ but it doesn't address this issue except, as I said to lock the HSI wheel so the course arrow is at least pointing at the proper heading. Ravenclaw, do you have acess to the original model (Max files? I dunno, this is a little deeper than I usually go. )? As you can see from both Romflyer's and my previous posts, the exact same problem exists in the MF Tomcats. If you or someone else could fix that, the 'Cats would be purrrfect! -

Dels, as I'm sure you've noticed, those entries are almost word for word the same as the same entries from the stock F-4E, which obviously works fine. (Checked it to make sure it wasn't a patch issue.) The course arrow seems to be ignoring the fact that the HSI Wheel is rotating, and points to a location on the wheel that would be the proper bearing if the top of the wheel was always north. Noticed this on the MF Tomcats, too, but was unable to fix it except by locking the wheel in place as a heading marker (which is kinda cheesy cause the damn thing has a big N at the top.) I hope this is helpful, you may have to install one of these as a test bed. (They're worth getting anyway, real beauties!) -
SF2V Expansion Pack performance problems
SupGen replied to kampfwolf's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I think you need to update your graphics card. I was using an AMD HD Radeon4770 2-3 years ago and it was barely adequate over Hanoi back then. Newegg had a good deal on 6870s recently (may still) which is what I'm using now and its doing OK, obviously, if you can afford it, go better. -

Brain32, is that an improvement on what you were getting? FWIW, I'm getting vastly improved results on bombers, too. -

May 2012 patch
SupGen replied to Sundowner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Anyone else having this problem? I've got no stutters and no lock-ups, but I do have this. The hit ratios for Sparrows and 'Winders are definitely better, and maybe for Phoenixs, but kill ratios for all three are rediculously bad. I mean, 18 Phoenixs fired, 12 hits, and out of those 12, one kill? Being I'm inclined to fool around with stuff, I upped the warhead weight on the AIM-54A to 260kgs, but it had no effect. At first I was discouraged, but then I figured, what the hell and put a nuke on it. You know, I asked myself, "What would Dave do?" Thing is, though, now I was getting somewhere, suddenly I was getting 1 hit, 1 kill...well, actually a little more than 1 kill, but still progess. Anyway, long story short, thru further testing I found that 10X the original amount of HE (warhead weight) gives results comparable to un-modded weapons prior to the May patch. (I have seperate, fully merged, April and May installs.) This goes for stock and third party weapons (I posted this at ThirdWire, NA Oddities, but the master has yet to comment.) It seems to me that whatever TK did to make missles more effective is making the game read warhead weight (or the effects thereof) at one tenth of what it should. Have any of you tried experimenting along these lines, and, if so, what were your results? -
SF2 NA
SupGen replied to snapper 21's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
snapper21, in August of 1942 the U.S. Navy landed the Old Breed, First Marine Division at Gualalcanal. Within days, the Marines and SeaBees had upgraded the Japanese airfield under construction there to a fully functioning airfield, Henderson Field. There were plenty of functioning Japanese airfields in the area, the element of surprise was crucial because the Navy did not have the availble combat power to do anything about them and land the Marines. So those airfields were "pristine". Not only that, but after the battle of Iron Bottom Sound, there were not only no U.S. Navy landing ships in the area, but no U.S. Navy. After the extremely heavy losses, the Navy pulled out of the area completly, leaving the Marines on their own. Incredibly, the Marines managed to kick enough Japanese ass, enough times, that eventually they withdrew. Now, I'm not saying that the Russians are as good as U.S. Marines, what I am saying is, in war, anything is possible. As far as those pristine airfields, untouched by war are concerned, what do you think we're there for? Go f*** em' up. -
Adding aircraft to merged files
SupGen replied to strykerpsg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
strykerpsg, the only thing you hadn't done, from what I see, was to run the JSGME again. When you do so, you'll see all the mods availble in the (JSGME) Mods folder, click on one, and click on the top arrow. Done. I hadn't used the JSGME for some time (used it all the time for Silent Hunter and some others), but it does have advantages even in SF2. No matter how bad you screw things up, you'll never have to delete the entire saved games mods folder. I dunno, I'm still weighing the pros and cons, but the pros seem to be winning, especialy for certain types of mods, like enviornmental mods that may affect more than one game folder. Because you've "taken a snapshot of game files" JSGME can return the game to the condition before you enabled a mod. Just me, but I think it would be worthwhile for everyone to screw around with this a little to see what works best for them. I don't know if I've gotten this across, but whether you choose to use it or not, once you get the hang of JSGME it really is easy. -
amraam not firing?
SupGen replied to greyhawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Alright, I'm assuming that by "weapon list" you mean aircraft loadout. If you can't acquire target and fire weapon, how can it show empty when you fire them all? Not trying to be a d###head or anything, but you need to be a little more specific as to the problem. Which AMRAAM? Which aircraft? What year is it? Every one of these things (and more), could be the problem. Give us a little more info and someone here will solve your problem. -
Installing weapons pack
SupGen replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, ShrikeHawk if you're showing a seperate Drop Tanks, Pilot (Misc Stores), Guns, and Weapons folder in the Objects folder, you did it right. Box stock install won't show a Weapons folder in Saved Games\ThirdWire\etc., at all. -
Installing weapons pack
SupGen replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
ShrikeHawk, did you look inside that weapons folder? I bet inside you'll find four folders:Effects, Sounds, Objects, and Weapons Manuals. Simplest thing to do is delete that Weapons folder and start over. Install the pack to a temporary folder of your choice, then copy/paste those folders into the game folders of the same names. -

Adding aircraft to merged files
SupGen replied to strykerpsg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The Mod enabler should be installedto: Users|YourName\SavedGames\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2,Vietnam,Europe, whatever game folder you want to use the mod in. Run JSGME once, click tasks, click 'take a snapshot of game files" and close the enabler. It will have created a folder called "Mods" in the folder in SavedGames. Install the Mod to that folder, run JSGME again, and enable the mod. -

MiG-23MF´s Skins and Tweaks pack Part 4
SupGen replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Flogger, a couple of things. One, the SpecificStationCode=Sapfir-23 is the old (SF1) code; the SF2 code (as per the SF2 Flogger Pack) and the WeaponsData file, is SpecificStationCode=AA7. Also, you either have to raise the LengthLimit=4.35 to 4.50 or comment it out or you cannot load AA-7C's as they are 4.49 meters long. That being said, these still look great, I'm using the Polish Camo skins as stand-ins for Soviet on the MLD and it looks good, better than the ones from the Flogger Pack, anyway. However, the Soviets could use some Hi-Def lovin', too. -

fallenpheonix, are you using stock TW AIM-54's or ones from McGunny's weapons Pack? Only asking because the stock missles seemed like magic bullets ( stock A's were much more capable than the CE's in the pack ); had to do a little judicious editing to make the A's in the Pack work. Even with most of the values (accuracy, countermeasures, reliabilty,) less than the stock AIM-54A's the A's from the pack work pretty well.
