  1. Excuse me , I do not quite understand. A radar looking for clouds?
  2. Folks, This is my option.ini files, I can't find the line which refers to VSync?? [GraphicsOptions] DisplayDeviceID=0 DisplayWidth=1280 DisplayHeight=800 DisplayDepth=32 AspectRatio=1.600000 LensFlare=0 DetailLevel=4 ObjectDetail=2 ObjectTexture=2 CockpitTexture=2 CockpitMirrors=0 CockpitReflection=0 EffectsDetail=2 TerrainDetail=2 TerrainTexture=2 HorizonDistance=1 GroundObjectDensity=2 WaterDetail=2 CloudsDetail=0 Shadow=0 AntiAliasing=0
  3. Dude, I guess I know the cause of your concern. Your resolution is higher than ours! Yours is amongst the highest I'm afraid.
  4. But then there is one tiny little thing which I'm not sure if anyone up here has given some thoughts about it. Said it's smooth because all we saw on the FPS counter red something like 100~125, some panned views even reported 225! But then when I moved my head around inside the cockpit, there's still some sort of lagging, it's very minute but you can feel and see that...compared to the smoothness of the vanilla out-of-the-box version I mean. But anyway I luve it!
  5. Hi Padfoot, I can of some help at that I think. Do you know how to get the ENVIRONMENT.INI file. It's inside the .CAB file. The name is FLIGHT.CAT inside the flight folder. Extract the ENVIRONMENT.INI file and check out the section [CloudsBroken] MaxClouds=56 MaxCloudParticles=110 3DCloudMaterial=CloudMaterial 3DCloudHorizontalSize=4000.0 3DCloudVerticalSize=900.0 3DCloudSizeDeviation=0.6 3DCloudParticleDensity=3.2 ParticleSize=640.0 ParticleSizeDeviation=0.2 //MinBaseAltitude=1000.0 //MaxBaseAltitude=1200.0 MinBaseAltitude=6096.0 MaxBaseAltitude=7300.0 UseBottomRow=TRUE Other clouds can also be altered the same way. Hope that helps.
  6. Are you using Q6600 CPU too? I'm interested to know if you've over clocked it. How do you obtain your readings? Were there many flights in the air or you run a single plane mission?
  7. Oh well I see. BTW, corrections to what I've quoted in my last thread, for some unknown reasons, I am not permitted to an "Edit" function, so I'll have to write it up on another thread, the graphics settings are Mirror=Off Reflection=Off Shadow=Low Horizon Distance=Normal Ground Objects=Medium all the other parameters are set to High. I dare not try Unlimited coz given the quality is already that high as shown in the image above, I don't think my eyes can tell the difference between Unlimited and High. All I need is this level of quality and a very very good frame rates!!
  8. Are you talking about Series 1 or Series 2? I heard that Series 2 is taking advantages of DX10 which is native in Windows Vista/7. Mine is Series 1. But what you've said is right, according to the readme, one should expect performance degradation rather than a boost. But what I've got is factual.I've captured a screen shot as below: The in-game graphics setting is medium with shadow set to Low, in fact I don't think I need shadow. The resolution is 1024X768 run in Windowed mode. Outside the game, on the OS level I set AA=8X without AF.
  9. I see! But well...funny no body mentions when I said the frame rates are low. Anyway, I must make good use of this file. I guess it is the d3d9.dll which does the trick, I don't mind to use the Shift+F12 function. It really does increase by 80% the FPS. I'm so glad!!
  10. Hi folks, I'm sort of doing some kind of benchmark using different Catalyst drivers, Catalyst drivers really drive people nuts! I've finally decided to use the 5.15.06 version for the time being because it seems to be the best in terms of better frame rates and Bunyap's 2006 weapon pack despite some game-play features might be lost, I can live with that. In order to do the benchmark, I need to design a mission which is done. Now I run into a little bit of trouble during run-time. As you might know, F2 doesn't do the wide-angle cockpit view in 5.15.06 as it does in Oct 2008 version. So I have to right mouse to zoom out manually every time I run the mission. As I need to run it over and over to obtain different performance readings, is it possible in this version to save the cockpit view? Your help will be greatly appreciated, many thanks! Ticket1
  11. I noted that screen shot but regrettably it doesn't show some of the identification information of the Weapon Editor file which I would like to check out for you. Another issue which I see from the information you've provided me with is that the weapon pack you've obtained might not be the one which suits your need for AIM-54C. There are a few things which requires some work before you can get your F-14 working. I do not have the campaign you mentioned actually I tried looking for it on this forum but in vain. I can however guide you through some essential steps though because I'm also working on the AIM-54C. This simulator is amazing in the sense that you can modify a lot of things. For instance, you may change the F-4J to carry AIM-120C AMRAAM or even the AIM-54C, of course for testing purpose. In this case for instance you need to have the SFP1E utility. Have you got this utility or do you know how to operate it? These are all needed when you want to get the F-14 working in your campaign. Hope this helps.
  12. To the OP Here is one of my findings, the Mirage Factory Weapon Pack has imposed an aircraft restriction to the F-14 and the F-14 only. In which case, if your F-14A tomcat is not what the weapon pack is referring to, you will lose all the available weapons in the menu of the loadout screen. I'm not saying that is the definitive cause of your problem but a highly probable possibility. The best thing you would do is to follow what I suggest in my last thread. We will then proceed from thereon-in. Hope this helps. Tk1
  13. Hi folks & OP, I guess I can of some help at that. Allow me to repeat it one more time. Please make sure you've done the installation in the order as below: 1) Install from CD Strike Fighters: Project 1 2) Patch the installation using the SFP1_Update_Oct2008b.exe executable available from http://www.thirdwire.com website 3) Install Mirage Factory Weapon pack dated 25-01-2009 named SFP_WOE_Weapon_Pack_25_01_09.exe 4) Obtain a folder display as shown below: Could you please do a folder display and send the image over. Just like this one I've had done:
  14. Hey folks, And to Fubar: I can tell right away it's definitely below 30FPS! Low 20s I say! Reasons are as you pan the views, it's like slow motion, it's not smooth as fluid at all. I'm comparing it to H.A.W.K. and SFP1 when in medium settings. The video I've uploaded here are for your to compare side-by-side. I do understand that using FRAP will discount some of the frames during recording so add say 5 frames to what you've seen in each of them. I think I've got the answer to my original question. 2008 Oct really does the job better in terms of AI aircrafts. I've designed a mission for testing this aspect in particular. 2008 Oct version AI tracks me while I was 80 nm away from behind whereas 2006 May version doesn't. I take AI very seriously because of realism, therefore I think I'll have to sacrifice some visual qualities for realism. This is not the first time, in fact, due to the limitations of my rig which is Q6600 based, ATi 4870 1GB DDR5 and Vista 64bits I can't ask for too much. I've no problems running the simulator at medium setting with 4:3 resolution and with AA=8X, actually I managed to get over 70 FPS which is more than satisfactory. The thing with the threshold frame rates I believe is accuracy in First Person Shooter games. Experience tells me that the higher the Graphics setting in Battlefield 2, the more kills you'll get simply because at that settings, you can see farther and a slightly larger dot actually is a moving target which is meant to be killed. Put aside the Internet connection issue, the only lagging factors would be slower CPU speed or inadequate GPU power. Same in flight simulator. If I'm playing a WWII flight simulator, I need even better hardware in order to get higher graphics quality which includes visual candies and the optimum frame rates. Anyway...Fubar what is that simulator? Is it LOCKON or a modded MiG-29 in one fo the Strike Fighter theatres? Tk1
  15. This thread has co-related my mind to History Channel's Dogfight programme. The last episode talked about modern jet fighters engaged in BVR combat. It's the Gulf War I and F-15 shot down Iraqi MiG-25, wow! Between frames, I saw something like a Su-24 because it was in the dark and that particular shot was done in a blink of 3 seconds or so, so I can't really visually confirm but telling from the shape of it, it is Russian made Fencer Su-24. I've searched on this forum, no Su-24 mod is found. Any clue?
  16. Hi folks, I chanced on watching this clip from youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffltVCyO5nA&feature=search Haven't you noticed that the cockpit is different from the stock one? This clip was produced in 2006 would that be a modded pit? Could anyone shed some light on it? Thanks! Tk1
  17. The following videos show the difference in frame rates:
  18. Thanks Fubar. By the way, how much do I lose game-wise if I stick my SFP1 installation to the 5.15.06 version instead of the latest Oct 2008 version? Reason is that I've found by using frame rate counters that ver 5.15.06 is way faster than Oct 2008. Using the same mission with native resolution 1680 X 1050 X 32 and AA=4X, I've managed to obtain something like 50FPS where as Oct 2008 gave me just 41FPS nearly 10 frames difference. Also I'm using Raedon 10.2 Catalyst for HD 4870 1GB DDR5 of my Q6600 system.
  19. Folks, Do you by any chance happen to know about the value of Mach 1 which is used by the sim. I'm doing some INI edit. Also, is it appropriate to use the following formulae where V o is the velocity and a is the speed of sound. Thanks! Tk1
  20. Hi Wrench, Good to hear from you, played around with some of your work mostly downloaded from the download section, they're all very nicely done, it's good to have you in this community. I've just came across another one, this is SO DIFFERENT...what version of SF is that, would that be SF2? Please do check it out:-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxSZYUTZhFs&feature=search
