  1. Thank you, my firend. It was mid-afternoon, but I guess in January that means low sun and short days. This is over the Lines (you can just see a few tents of an entente army camp at the very bottom of the shot, below the Nieup), east of Corcieux - an area I'm sure you've flown over with Jasta 35, but perhaps not in winter (?). And yes, a new pilot who's making a solid campaign start (4 missions so far). Look for his first 'report' on the other thread soon.
  2. Indeed . . . but he doesn't get to 'enjoy' it for very long. Mmuahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!
  3. Not wishing to blow my own trumpet here, but I was really pleased with how this screenie turned out - something about the silvery Nieup and the Alsace winter backdrop, leaves all the colour focussed on my new 'bus'. Hope you like.
  4. Only aces are 'named' in the labels, Shiloh. Lesser beings just get the squad and plane details. If you are in a quieter section, it may just be you haven't encountered any aces amoung your opponents for a while.
  5. Horses Don't Fly

I read it last month and agree with you absolutely, Shiloh. Reading Libby's account prompted me to try the Fee in OFF. It's probably not as detailed in the actual flying action as, say Jimmie McCudden's Flying Fury or some of the MvR books - but there is more a story of a life, written in a surprisingly engaging, honest and at times very amusing style. Highly recommended here too.
  6. Thanks for your reply, Hellshade. Indeed, I think these guys have - for very good reason - been looking for some time to add greater realism (and more realistic results in terms of how diificult it should be to shoot down an opponent in WW1) in terms of both what you see (Creaghorn's and Elephant's tracer and impact mods) and what you get (HPW's accuracy mods and now these new DMs). The question now is what is the 'perfect' combination of these mods (and settings within mods)? Your recounting of Creaghorn's views makes sense given all this. What mod is he about to release? An update of his previous tracer mod or something else?
  7. Great video, Hellshade - and terrific work by HPW and Creaghorn in developing this mod. Watching the vid, strikes me that a number of people who had been running 'less accurate' gun settings (with our without HPW's specific mod for guns) might be switching back to 'normal' after the first fight or two with this mod.
  8. Hhmm, so now we know who was responsible for MvR being so insistent that Germany go all out to develop a triplane of their own . . .
  9. Mis-read your post title at a glance, Olham - and was ready to come out swinging in order to defend 2-seater Sopwiths everywhere!! Pleased to discover you're not actually out to eliminate Strutters after all.
  10. Yes gents, a Fee it is. RFC-6 (where my current B.E2 pilot is) is to be re-equipped on 1 December 1915 with Fees. I think this is the earliest date you can get into one in OFF.
  11. Close Olham, but no banana. Think more like, a DH.2's older brother . . .
  12. My latest Einie-chaser . . . With a bit of luck, you might start seeing a few more pics of this craft over on 'reports from the front', and that should make a change because at the moment they tend to only feature when they're on the receiving end (!) .
  13. Excellent stuff, Lou! Nice skin - good flying (tucking right in close behind that dreaded Hun) - a lovely pic - and great little introduction for your (presumably new) pilot. Now, let me get you a drink, Major - that looked like thirsty work.
  14. Just attempting to add a little mess-room frivolity on the forum, my friend - certainly not meaning to be at your expense!
  15. Yeay, yeah - alright Mr 5-kills-in-one-mission. Geez, Shiloh - your head'll be gettin as big as that one you got painted on the side of your Alb!!
  16. Oooh, inverted flying just a few hundred feet off the deck - very exciting stuff. Bet that made your hands a bit clammy!
  17. Indeed - it hints at that cannon-mounted SPAD that Guynemer flew for a while (not that I've seen a pic of that craft, only read about it) - bet you could have fun if you had one of those in your Alb!
  18. Great shot of that arty explosion, Olham - and your black spinner DII looks very distinctive in those front on views.
  19. Can you somehow switch Bletchley's time period mods on and off? and/or switch between them if you have pilots in different years? I'm very interested in trying one for the earlier years - and would be happy to start a new campaign pilot to suit - but I would still like to be able to continue my existing pilots in the normal (un-modded) OFF Thanks if you can answer this. Great information there Olham - I feel very enlightened. Jasta 11 at that time would make sense. Wow what a match-up that must've been: Jasta 11 vs RFC-56! Impressive list of opponents shown in you link for Fritz Rumey.
  20. Don't know where you're flying here, TSmoke - but the shot reminds me of Jimmie McCudden talking about 'Green-tail' as a particular Albatros he met frequently while with RFC-56. Surprisingly (given how often he mentioned this particular aircraft) McCudden doesn't identify the German pilot, but says of this staffel: They all had red noses and yellow fuselages but each had a different coloured tail. There was a red, light blue - whom I sent to the sports - black, yellow, black and white striped, and our dear old 'green-tail'. By Jove! They were a tough lot. Hopefully our resident Albatros expert might be able to provide more detail (hhmmm, Olham?)
  21. Thanks, Olham - you had of course, already said it was Jasta 37 so mine was a stupid question there - and if I'd thought for more than 2 seconds I would've worked out is was late in the war because of the restyled black crosses (although I'm not exactly sure when they were introduced). Are you flying at this rather grim and deadly period so you can feel better about your Jasta 2 pilot in mid-1917 perhaps!?
  22. Ooh, that's a real "mean-machine" look you have there, Olham - especially the side-on shot. Which Jasta and time period is that?
  23. Looks very much the genuine article, WM - well done!
  24. Well I'm not too sure what this thread's actually about anymore - but as it's going on, and you've posted here buying a round . . . welcome Crossbones! You can make that 2 Warsteiners if you please - I'll trust Olham's judgement in this matter. Do you fly campaigns in OFF? If so, hunt on over to the 'reports from the front' thread sometime and give us your perspective on the air war! Anyhoo - thanks for the beer, old chap - bottom's up!!
