  1. Sorry to hear your bad news Hellshade. It's a shame they changed the game play so much. I disagree with such practices. But on the bright side, like you said, more time freed up for OFF! Huzzah! Also more time for awesome Hellshade videos too! Which is a big win for us on the forum! I'm eagerly waiting for the Hellshade & Olham mega, amazing, stupendous video! Have a cold one on me Hellshade! Cheers! Ratatat
  2. Want a new Avatar?

Glad to be of some help Olham, even if by accident! Ratatat
  3. Hellshade, I get an average of roughly 35 fps. Resolution is 1920 x 1200. Running a Dual Core E8400 @ 3.0Ghz, 4 GB PC-800 RAM. Cheers! Ratatat
  4. When it comes to bridges, there seems to be a little of Bruno Stachel in all of us, yes?
  5. That's excellent work Dej! I really like the way you added colour to the portraits. Very nice...and respectful I might add. That scene also looks to be historically accurate, unlike a certain movie I watched last night on DVD ( The Red Baron ). Cheers! Ratatat
  6. Want a new Avatar?

No, I forgot. It is 80 x 80 pixels Olham.
  7. Want a new Avatar?

Hmmm...as a Dreidecker enthusiast you tempt me Olham. But I spent some time making my current avatar and I'm happy with it. For now... Cheers! Ratatat

Hi V4Friend, Well, I'm definitely not a millionaire which is why your program caught my interest! Yes, you're right I'll just re-extract the .ini file from update4. Much easier. My average fps in OFF is 30 - 35 fps so no worries there I think. CPU load I don't know ( I'm at work right now ). If it is any help, here are my PC specs off the top of my head: Dual Core E8400 @ 3.0 GHZ 4 GB PC-800 RAM GTX 460 768 MB Win 7 Ultimate 64 BIT Joystick is Cyborg Evo Camera is S5500 Logitech I'll try lowering the sliders ( I believe the Over Flanders Fields.ini starts at 5 ) and adding more light to the room - maybe some more candles? Don't worry, I don't give up easily! I'll post my results when I get a chance to try things out again! Cheers! Ratatat
  9. Hi Hellshade, I forgot to mention that I'm not running the HiTR expansion yet. I hear it puts more demands on your graphics card than stock BH&H. Before anyone says anything...HiTR is on my Christmas list! Ratatat
  10. Excellent! More Paul! Oooh! And Sophie too!
  11. Nice work guys and congrats on the new card Hellshade! It should be amazing! Just thought I'd mention that my new card is a GTX 460 768MB version and it runs OFF smooth as silk. I have all the sliders set at 5 and I haven't even gone in to the config. this time around to tweak any settings! I love it! Hopefully the added eye-candy in P4 won't make me cry.
  12. I'm New

Welcome Andy! You'll find that this is a very friendly forum. See you in the officer's pub! Ratatat

Hi vonOben, I've made some progress. I wasn't going to post until my next experiment was complete. But I'll let you know where I'm at right now. The first thing I discovered is that the program won't work with OFF at all unless you run the program's .exe file as administrator ( I'm running Win7 64 -bit ). Currently it sort of works, but the time between my head movement and the response on screen is soooo sluggish that it is pretty much useless in game. It's something like a 5 second delay. Not much fun. Unless you enjoy crashing in to things. However, I might have messed up the curves when I was working out why it wasn't functioning originally. There doesn't appear to be a "reset to defaults" option in the program so I plan on reinstalling the whole thing. A second issue might be my camera's software interfering with the TrackNoIR software. So I also plan on stripping that out to see what happens. When I have time to do that I'll post again to let everyone know what happens. What it has done though is really opened my eyes as to how incredible head tracking can be in OFF and made me hunger even more for a TracKIR device! Cheers! Ratatat
  14. Great video Hellshade! Very effective I think. I wanted to order the game all over again! However, what I'm really looking forward to now is the Hellshade & Olham magnum opus video. When and where can I buy my ticket?
  15. Is this the best Forum ever?

Hear, hear! One of the true dangers of this excellent forum is that it SO entertaining. Many has been the night that I've missed playing OFF because I was too busy reading the forum instead! But any time you spend smiling and laughing is time well spent I say! Cheers to all of you who make this forum such a great place - and I'll have some more nibblies over here if you please!
  16. Hi guys, I think it is a very neat idea. Like Olham I didn't post only because I couldn't offer up a better subject for the contest. I'm sure that's the case with the majority of people viewing this thread. After all who wouldn't like to win a contest? But Olham makes a very good point in that we are approaching one of the busiest times of the year for people. However, if I think of something brilliant for the contest I'll be sure to chuck it in to the ring! Ratatat P.S. If there's ever a contest for someone's used, but well-loved TrackIR I'm in like a dirty shirt!
  17. Last night I flew a long mission in my Dr.1. The objective was to attack enemy ground troops at the front lines, but located very far to the south-west. My small flight showed grosse tapferkeit as we battered our way through Camels, S.E.5s, SPADs and even clouds of poisonous gas to reach the target! Once we arrived I had only enough ammunition left for a short three second burst - testament to the hard fighting endured to get there. Several enemy soldiers went down under that brief rattle of my guns. So it was worth the trip. With blood-shot eyes I wearily checked the clock and discovered I had stayed up too long in to the night. It was to be a long and dangerous journey back to base for my pilot. Flying along the front I spotted a nearby friendly airfield on our side of the lines. Perfect I thought! Dodging angry ground fire I turned my craft north and soon after safely landed my bird. Rubbing my eyes, I ended the mission. Much to my surprise and utter dismay I was informed my best pilot had been captured and was to remain in captivity! How can this be? Noooooo!!! So what happened here? Was the airfield over-run by vengeful enemy infantry while my pilot was busy in the latrine? Or was it a clever deception by the enemy flying false colours on the airfield? A shame my favourite pilot has his story ended this way. Other fliegers take heed and beware of "friendly" airfields close to the front! Oh, well. I hear bombers are fun!
  18. Having been away from OFF for quite a while I decided to fire it up and have a go. Much to my dismay the first mission handed to my new Fokker Dr.1 pilot was an airfield attack. Ho-hum, I thought. I recall these missions as rather a dull, waste of my pilot's time and in the past allowed myself to be distracted by the odd speck flying on the horizon. But this time I did my duty and kept to the mission ( that darn speck was faster than me ). Alright, here comes the airfield. I stifled a yawn, throttled up, and dove down - lining up on a menacing truck. I waited until it loomed large in my sights. I held down the trigger and...KABOOM! Holy @#$%! The truck disappeared in an almighty explosion and I got a screen full of cloud and dirt! I hooted with glee as I flew out of the whirling debris, barely missing a poorly located hanger. I don't remember that happening before! I then proceeded on an unholy path of destruction. No vehicle was safe from my blazing twin machine guns. Black smoke soon blanketed the enemy airfield as anything with wheels burned to the ground. Hey! Are those little soldiers down there taking pot shots at me? Angry bullets whipped and whined past my triplane. This is great! Brave little men they were. Brave little men. Uh-oh. I realized that in my feverish excitement I had exhausted every last round I had for my guns! With a foolish grin I slunk back to base at tree top level, hoping and praying not to be noticed by the airfields owners. A lesson learned. Next time I bring more ammo!
  19. Consider buying OFF

Hey Javito1986, Did you ever play RB3D with the Promised Lands "Full Canvas Jacket" patch? It was a great upgrade and kept me flying that game for a long, long time. Until I discovered Phase 2 of OFF. When I saw those P2 screen shots and read the high praise in the forum I knew it was time to move on. I still have the box and manual for RB3D on my shelf. Flipping through the manual here I just came across a neat section on the medals of WW1. Something to read tonight! Elephant, Some very nice work there! Mmmm... love that 109. I tried the RoF demo recently. I had been waiting for a compatible Win 7 64 bit demo. The planes look great ( I loved starting up the Albatross on the field. Everything shook and rumbled - be great to have that in OFF! ), the water with all the reflections is amazing - yet I kept wishing I was playing OFF. There seemed to me to be a lack of feed back during combat. One minute the enemy plane was sailing along in front as I shot at it. Abruptly it fell apart in to a dozen pieces. While fascinating to watch, I found it unsatisfying. The combat to be had in OFF is more visceral and enjoyable to me. You can tell when your rounds are finding there mark, and if you hit the pilot you'll know it. When P4 is released ( the next installment of OFF ) I think we will have the best of both worlds. The beauty and the brains!
  20. What the...CAPTURED?!?

    Thanks RAF_Louvert!
  21. Consider buying OFF

Hi Elephant, I can heartily recommend buying OFF. If you're looking for a great campaign style game I can't think of a better one. You'll find that you'll really get attached to your pilot unlike other games. I think Hellshade said it perfectly in a recent post when discussing Wings of Prey and OFF. I've included it below for your convenience: "Wings of Prey has a brand new flight sim engine to give it better visuals than OFF, however even there the screen shots of P4 look to close the distance in that gap too. OFF just has too much attention to detail and history where as WoP, while certainly difficult to master, is all about immediate gratification from exciting visual feedback. It works beautifully for what it is, but other than being a combat flight simulator, the similiarities between the two end very quickly. If you are looking to create a pilot to try and live through the war, WoP just doesn't have the depth to support the emotional attachment to a pilot that OFF does. In my opinion, its that personal attachment to our pilots in a historically accurate world that lends tremendously to the addictiveness of OFF. Essentially, with Wings of Prey you are trying to finish a Mission. In Over Flanders Fields you are trying to survive a War. The difference emotionally can be quite significant, in my opinion. Hellshade" Best regards, Ratatat
  22. What the...CAPTURED?!?

"Jawohl, unt velcome to our little slice of Hell, Herr Dummkopf." Yes! I laughed out loud when I read it too! RAF_Louvert: With your permission I wouldn't mind making that my signature! It would go great with my avatar! Ratatat
  23. What the...CAPTURED?!?

Thanks for the explanation Olham. That actually makes sense. The ground crew obviously neglected to update my kneeboard map! Perhaps my subscription ran out? RAF_Louvert: Ha, ha, ha! Too funny! Of course as my pilot was German the greeting he received included words like "Jerry", "Tosser" and "Wanker". Thanks to you both. I feel much better about losing my Ace.
  24. I was only kidding of course Javito! I forgot to add my smiley. Here it is! By the way, since we're on the subject of medals, I received a second Iron Cross 2nd class last night. That's odd as well isn't it? Wouldn't the second medal received be the Iron Cross 1st class? I guess uncleal covered this question already in his post. But historically speaking am I correct or no?
  25. That's it exactly Hellshade. My current pilot has the most hours and highest score for me to date. I feel more and more anxious every time I take to the air knowing that this could be the mission that ends his life. The ability to name your pilot, pick his squadron, and now I hear even paint your own craft:cool:, just adds so much to your investment in this game. I also feel terrible when I learn my wingman is injured or killed, as I feel somewhat responsible for him as well.
