Hey guys, I got in country nearly a month ago, and here I am, 7 years after 9-11 to the day. I feel right, like I should be here, but I hope I can help make a difference here. I took some pics, so check 'em out. Hopefully the link works: http://picasaweb.google.com/cwmichels/OEF8...ey=8WsL24PCUOw# I'll post when I get a chance. Take care

Some of you guys might remember me.. It's been a while since I posted, but I read the forums from time to time. I've been really busy lately, getting ready for deployment, got married, and picked up my 5th MOS (not at the same time). My brother got back from his second tour in Iraq, and he's doing ok at MCRD on his twilight tour. I was really glad that he got to be my best man at my wedding! It's been a real busy year so far, and it's only gonna get more busy. I'll try to keep you guys posted.

Thanks for the spport guys! We're about a week out of leaving for North Carolina, and then on to OEF. Trainging has been relatively good, but the real evaluation is coming. Ufortunately, we're not going to NTC, although I spent 2 years there and remember the lay of the land well. Firehawkordy, what unit is your son in?

OMG!! I loved GI Joe! I had the first issue of "Special Missions", and the one and only GI Joe comic that showed Snake Eyes' real face without the mask. That was awesome.

Dude, Sorry about your son. My lil bro jsut got back from his second tour in Ramadi, and I was explaining to him, "Dude, avoid the locals at all costs.." It's just bettter and of course safety in numbers. Hell, I never went out with out my squadmates in Barstow; that was just asking for it. One time we showed up at some funeral bar thing where all the cholos were hanging out, and that was that. I turn into an ass when I drink, so that's why I do it at home. Glad to see he and his bro are pulling through though.

I was stationed @ Ft. Irwin fot 2 years 04-06. Lived in the barracks right up the street from the post hospital and heli strip across the street. Further up the road was base housing, and a really big hill that led to the outer loop, which we ran religiously with my platoon sgt. Gawd, I hated that hill! I went into post housing a couple times for some parties on the weekeds between rotaions, but in reality, that was off limits. That crappy post was so small, if you tripped over a curb in the wrong place at the wrong time it was NJP city. But, we got away with it though :). One time Carl Weathers came out to visit us, and (not kidding) a week later, the GOVERNATOR came out for a pass in review and recognized the 11th Cavalry.

Anyone know where I can still get a copy of LB2?

Hey guys, I haven't really been posting, so most of you new folks wouldn't remember me, but thats ok.. I've been back in the military since early 2004, been deployed to Ft. Irwin for 2 years, and now I'm a recruiter for the Army National Guard. It just so happens that I'm here today at the Chicago MEPS, waiting for my applicant to finish his physical and enlist. Just a couple months ago, I volunteered to be deployed to support OIF as a door gunner (it would've been sweet too), but I was turned down by the chain of command because they like me where I am now. I was litereally pissed, not to have the chance to go and fight; having been training soldiers for 2 years, becoming proficient at living and working in a desert environment, to have learned the thought process of my enemy by living as one in the brutal Mojave, it left me with a useless feeling. However, I had sort of an epiphany on this anniversary of September 11. Perhaps I can look at this as fighting back by enlisting new soldiers? Maybe. My rage still survives these attacks, and I still feel the actual terror of that day having used to live so close from the Petagon and looking at the damage done back in 2001. I know that I may not be taking my rifle into the Red zone as my little brother is now doing on his second tour in country, but at least I'm doing something. When I assemble my recruits at the armory to take them into the field and teach them what I can before they depart for Basic Training, maybe they can take these valuble lessons that I learned from the desert and use it to their advantage to kill the enemy and save the innocent. After thinking about this long and hard, I can't imagine more of a fitting retaliation than to have one young man begin his own War on Terror on the same day that thousands of our own were killed, and one of the most powerful symbols of capitalism and our way of life; freedom, fair trade, entrepreneurship, and opportunity was struck below the belt and brought to it's knees. Now I take these few hours of today to press forward in my own battles by helping build my army on a day that so much was lost, never to forget untill my demise and beyond, that I am committed. -UNTIL THE MISSION IS DONE Zag
