  1. Also note the vessals and aircraft that will be included in this sim, rather awesome. Platforms Take a look at the KILO SS platform info. Its incrediblebly detailed. Notice the player weps you'll be controlling. I didnt know the old Kilo's carried SA-N-8 and -5 surface to air missiles! I knew the newer boats did. That P-3 better watch his bisquits ot they'll be burnin', hehe. Another question...will it be possible later for the devs, or perhaps even the community, to mod this game and/or add more platforms. I'd espesially love to see a Spruance class DD as these were MAJOR ASW platforms, more so than Perry class methinks. Perry class big advantage is being the main ASW platform at present since the decomm of nearly all Spruance class. Just for everyone's info, I dont think there is a more SERIOUS naval sim developer than Sonalyst. These guys are NAVY! So you know whatever they come out with WILL be bigtime accurate authentic sim.
  2. This was on their website "Features" page and might help us to keep from posting redundant questions. ONE NAVAL BATTLEFIELD Cooperative and head-to-head multiplayer modes allow controllable submarine, surface, and air platforms to battle it out in the definitive naval combat experience. MULTI-STATION MODE Players can command a platform on their own in multiplayer, or collaborate with multiple players in "Multi-station Mode" as they each operate individual stations and strive to work together as a team on the SAME platform. "REAL WORLD" PLATFORMS Detailed depictions of each controllable platform's stations and their respective arsenals provide a realistic game play experience. CUTTING-EDGE SENSOR MODELLING AND PHYSICS Authentic simulation of sensor performance both in the air and through the ocean environment challenge the player to detect unknown enemies. Realistic depection of flight characteristic, buoyancy, air resistance, and gravity provide realistic control and maneuvering. SCALABLE 3D ENGINE AND EFFECTS Updated 3D graphics engine provides realistic depiction of ocean swells, water reflections, and environmental conditions. WORLDWIDE DATABASE Extensive worldwide database provided by the U.S. Naval Institute offers detailed descriptions of platforms and weaponry to accomodate all possible global conflicts. Over 270+ platforms comprising 17 of the world's navies can do battle for control of the open ocean. MISSION CREATION TOOLS USED BY THE GAME'S DESIGNERS Powerful mission editor that was used by the developers to create the missions that will be shipped with the game, will be available to the player to create their own scenarios. Players will be able to create their own single missions or string together their own campaign. These tools will allow the player extensive control over the mission content and enable him to generate an infinite number of mission possibilities. DYNAMIC YET PERSISTENT CAMPAIGNS Players will compete in two distinct campaigns in which their actions have a profound effect on the missions that follow. The use of dynamic elements such as probability of inclusion, dynamic groups of objects, dynamic inclusion of mission goals, and rules of engagement that can change mid-mission all ensure that the campaigns with never play the same way twice. QUICK MISSION MODE Upon selecting their platform and mission difficulty level the player will generate an entirely random and dynamic mission. It will be composed of an infinite combination of mission goals, enemy forces and random locations. Still nothing said as I can see about single player modes if any.
  3. Some more questions for ya... I understand that we will be able to control our own unit. If I am in a P-3 Ill fly it, I can do ASW consoles dropping sono-bouys and listening to accoustics, and be weps officer too, launching weapons right? Im also wondering if there will be AI units in MP and if Ill be able to control them? Does this game have single player? Will I be able to control other, AI, units than my own then?
  4. The Evil Twin...

Got this from one of my bros on the MGG forum...cat lovers BEWARE! sportsk1.mpa
  5. Independence Day

    Congratulations Israel! Shalom... :)
  6. The World's Best Hypnotist

Ill bet it was the poor janitor who cleaned it all up too eh? ;) I almost blew snot all over my screen...you guys gotta quit tellin' these jokes... :D
  7. Good for Eagle Dynamics. Dont let Ubi hold you back. I'd LOVE to see a good expansion pack for this game, it CRYS out for one.
  8. Combat Helmet

Ive got a cataloge called Sportmans guide, link here. They sell a British flight helmet for $499.97... Page with pic here...Brit flight helmet I wouldnt be too embarassed Canada, we're all a bit geeky here... ;)
  9. A Picture Says It All...

Agreed. In WW2, it wasnt the soldiers will to fight in France that lost them the fight. They were betrayed by their own leaders lack of will. The later resistance movement in France proved the ability of its people to fight. Been reading a lot about the WW2 resistance movement lately. The Danes and lower countries, Norway, France, Poland all had a very strong resistance against Germany. Fascinating reading.
  10. ...the little sailors manning the guns on the USS Lexington screenie from this last, 4/19/2004, dev update? WHOA! Talk about detail! Man, thats sweet. Cant wait to put a 500lb'r in a Jap CV, hehe.
  11. I didnt mean THAT ya perv! I just wanted to show ya somethin'...no WAIT! I didnt want to say that either...:P I was fooling around in my editor last nite and had the Tirpitz sail broadside to the Marat, the Aurora, and another light cruiser. Talk about a duel! Shells and Torpedos (!) were flyin back and forth. Guess who won...the Tirpitz. Next time Ill try TWO Marats with escorts, hehe. ;) Marat is already going down... Tirptz is bloody but unbowed... The end of the Marat and Aurora... The Light Cruiser is last to go, but go she does after a valiant effort...
  12. Doolittle Raiders

Wish't I had heard of the reunion beforehand, coulda went. Tucson is only 8 hours from San Diego. Woulda loved to see these guys. That woulda been cool... :( I agree Dutchy, I liked all the action, and the story of 2 guys wanting to fly was sorta cool too, but the 3 way romance was just plain STUPID! It woulda been a really good war flick then. Guess they had to please the women in the crowd... The part that KILLED me was watching them blow up the 5 old Spruance destroyers in one scene. I almost wet myself as I used to serve on one in the Navy. Couldnt beleive they'd do that to fine old ships like the Spruances. I was surprised to find out later they almost all have been decommissioned. Guess you know yur gettin old when the ships you served on start getting decommed... :(
  13. Doolittle Raiders

Very cool PG. I grew up reading about these guys in Jablonski's Airwar. They've always been some of my heroes. Woulda loved to have some of their autographs. They defined the word Fortitude... PS. Just outta curiosity, where was the reunion held? You know off-hand?
  14. Did you know there is a "Pacific Aces" mod out for SHII that changes everything to US subs and Jap ships? Just like the original SH! Im impressed, I may have to reinstall my game and see how this mod does. I understand that Subsim is requesting a donation of at least $5 and will allow you to download it or if you make a donation of $20, they'll send you a CD with all the addons, mods, etc. with the PA mod. I think Ill do this payday, Ill let ya know... ;) Mod can be found at this website in the "Downloads" section for SHII...www.subsim.com A review by Subsim can be found here...Pacific Aces review.
  15. A Colonel's Story

That was a good story Dutchy. I like reading things like that about our parents generation. Helps us to learn about ourselves...
  16. Thinkin' of getting back into this game. Sure was a lot of fun. Been hopin the "Civil War Between the States" game by the Walker Boys would come out but after 3 years it doesnt look like they are in any real hurry. So needed a CW fix bad. Like to know where I can find fansites, etc. that might have mods and whatnot. Been doing different searches but not much found yet. I know its an old game but I hear it still has a community...just cant find it yet.
  17. Help Needed

Panzer Commander was a WW2 tank sim. I played it a LOT for quite awhile. You usually controlled a platoon of tanks to a somewhat limited degree, telling them formation, FIRE!, halt, cease fire, etc. There are a LOT of desert combat scenarios for this sim. The main ultimation website is here...http://www.ultimation.com/panzer.htm Another probably far better game from what I hear though I havent tried it is PANZER ELITE. A great tank website that has ALL the tank links you need is www.tanksim.com/. Good luck and let us know what you find thats cool. Id load up and play Panzer Commander again if there was someone to play it with.
  18. Jesse Ventura For President?

BAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Love that Outland cartoon!!! ROFLMAO! *gasp* cant...stop...*choke* ...laughing... *wipes tears out of eyes...* :D You know, I have NO idea what Jesse's platform would be. He was rather popular if I recall with his previous constituancy. But I never heard where he stood on things. Guess like so many, I never took him all that serious. Bet he'd support the military and fight gun control. Probably HATES political correctness, but just guessing. Sorry...didnt meant to get all serious... ;) ...love thaqt outland cartoon... :D
  19. These questions were asked on the Yahoo groups forum for Fighting Steel and Fighting Steel Project (FSP) and thought they might be good to post for anyone getting into, or back into, FS. First,... Been playing FSP (original) for several years on a Pentium 466 Windows98 2nd edition laptop w/8MB video, (also ran well on old 800MHz Windows98 2nd edition laptop w/16MB video) - love the game and have created every possible senario, (including pre-war US/UK Joint Naval Exercises). Here's my question - looking at purchasing version 9.5 on CDROM, (Italians and French need to get involved, not to mention all post 1942 USN CAs, CLs and DDs - you can never have enough DDs!) - is everything I'll need on it, (i.e. won't have to download files, extract, overwright, fiddle, troubleshoot, etc.) and what operating system will it work with, (upgraded PCs/laptops last fall - both XP pro, 2.6Ghz w/64M video, 512M RAM ,etc.). Can always get a used 800Mhz Dell w/32Mhz Video RAM for a couple hundred bucks but I'd just as soon load on my current desktop. I guess I'm looking for a simple install as well as stable operating functionality. PS. Had an idea about mine fields - just like adding Bombardment circle - only when ships enter area, AI determines if ships affected, (could use same code used for torps in determining hit rate). ------------------- Hello, Thanks for your questions and interest. First, let me be clear on a couple of your questions -- you can -always- download the current version of the Fighting Steel Project for free: the CD option is really for if you want to help fund work on the project with a donation, and/or do not want to download the seperate files that are on the CD. You will still have to have a copy of the original game installed before you update with FSP, as FSP will not install without the original game already installed (and at any rate is not a complete game by itself as it does not include all of the original game files...). The installer on the FSP donation CD, and the one you can download are (and will be) identical: the single installer will fully update your current Fighting Steel game to the new FSP version, no matter what version it is, and you do not have to uninstall/reinstall the game, nor do you need to run a catalog patch as in older FSP updates :-) The donation CD does include all of the updated scenarios, the FSP manual & the original game manual (both in PDF format), the FSP radar guide, the FSP ship-data excell chart, demos of several of NWS own games, as well as the latest version of Direct-X and Acrobat reader...it of course also contains the installer for the current FSP release, both the English and German-language versions. So yes, virtually everything to do with FSP is indeed on the CD. Most PCs produced in the past ~2 years should have few problems with FS or FSP -- of course, like with any complex software product, you can have hardware or software that does not 'play well' with the product: we do our utmost here to help those who do report such problems, as players on these forums can attest to. From your description, your machines should work fine with FSP, but if you do have any issues you know where to find help ;-) Mines: we are still not set on how we want to introduce these into the game. They are not -really- critical for WW2, but they certainly would be a needed item for any future FSP-WW1 game... Thanks, William Miller Assistant Director\ Projects Deeveloper NWS Next... Hello, I was wondering how close (FSP) V9.5 was to release. ------------ Hello, All of the added game features and changes are complete, and appear to work well in tests. All that remains is to add the new ship models and ship data that will be included in 9.5 -- we have a ship list that appears to be firming up, and modeling of the ships has started. I would estimate 8 - 14 days until the release at this point. Keep in mind that is an estimate, we want to make the release as bug-free and smooth as possible, so if it takes a few extra days to work out any last-minute kinks we will take that time, rather than release with the 'kink'. Thanks! William Miller Assistant Director\ Projects Developer NWS I asked this same question and this was the reply. Glad to hear its near release, only a few more weeks. This is going to be an AWESOME version to have of FSP so keep your eyes out for it. It you arent a member yet of Yahoo groups and these forums for FSP and the Fleet Command Naval Warfare Project (NWP), get signed up, its free. Theres a LOT of interesting things coming down the pike soon if you are a fan of either of these games.
  20. Thought you'd like to know, hehe. ;) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=...913&m=183100843 2 questions... 1.) Is that B-25 flyable? 2.) Does its loadout include parachute fragmentation bombs like they used against the Japs in the Pacific? Ill make a "Kennys' Air Force" campaign.
  21. Ouch!

Don't know if to be sorry for ya or not CHeers! Fates LOL! Take it from me Todd...RUUUUN! Run as fast as you can Man! Oh wait...you cant...never mind, this was only a drill... :P :D
  22. This was posted by the Team Director at the Fighting Steel Project forum... "I just wanted to remind everyone that TAS is evolving into Navies At War-WW2 and if there are any questions about this upgrading of TAS to a more comprehensive product that can either be played as a stand alone simulation or be used with the Warship Combat Series or Fighting Steel Project. Let me know if there are any concerns or questions. Thanks NWS Team Director" The thread is here along with links for the questions and answers that followed. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/NWS-FSP/message/4913 Im not going to post all the questions but just a couple to give you an idea what is happening here... "From: "Robert and/or Nora Thompson" <Hobo55@t...> Date: Fri Mar 19, 2004 3:23 pm Subject: RE: [NWS-FSP] TAS evolving into NAW-WW2 /w NWS reply Greetings: I purchased TAS and FS in late Jan or early Feb., also made a donation for the upcoming FS 9.5 which I haven't received yet. Are both TAS and FS going by the wayside or as I understand evolving into 'Navies at War-WW2. *** FSP is going very strong.. as a matter of fact v9.5 will be one of the most comprehensive updates we have ever done for FSP so far. (BTW.. you didnt get FSP CD v9.5 for donation because it hasnt been released yet..;-) TAS is not in ANY WAY dead.. TAS is evolving into something much more then what you all originaly paid for.. example.. more detailed aircraft operations, more detailed sub operations, a built in surface combat system (which means it can be played as a stand alone simulation), turn based or real time option while playing, the ability to handle longer campaigns, and much more! Basicly NAW-WW2 will do everything TAS does AND have what was planned for NAW-WW2 added to it! This does not effect FSP in any way shape or form.. except for the fact that if we get the FSP WW1 edition going the NAW-WW1 will be compatible with it! ;-) Am I confusing the WW2 (2D )game I purchased in February with the Navies at War WW2? *** 2 different products. WC-WW2 is a simulation in itself for tactical surface combat. NAW-WW2 will be compatible with both FSP and WC-WW2 if you decide you want either one of those simulations to handle the surface combat. Navies At War at the core is a operational campaign simulator with tactical command structure (basicly you dont left out of the action or the important decisions..;-) Again though.. NAW-WW2 can either use its own built in surface combat system, or FSP, or Warship Combat-WW2 to handle the surface combat actions at your choice! The TAS and FS package (3D)works well and it would be great if both of these formed into the new game allowing for aircraft and CV's. I suppose a donation would be required for the new game. What about the 9.5 upgrade? Is it redundant? If so maybe I should cancel. *** FSP v9.5 will be shipped on the CD you sent in a donation for. NAW-WW2 is a seperate product. Basicly think of it as this.. TAS is being replaced by NAW-WW2 with all of the same compatibility of TAS with FSP.. BUT.. you will be getting a LOT more features by moving up to NAW-WW2 that are not presently available in TAS and it will be a stand alone simulation in and of itself if you dont want FSP to handle the surface engagements. Let me know if this helps. ;-) Im not surprised at some of the confusion as I dont think anyone has ever done something like this before.. ;-) Bob Bob and/or Nora Thompson *** Thanks Christopher Dean NWS Team Director / Projects Designer ***" Next... "From: "Pete" <pmarvin7@c...> Date: Fri Mar 19, 2004 3:12 pm Subject: Re: [NWS-FSP] TAS evolving into NAW-WW2 /w NWS reply Just bought TAS...what does it take to upgrade to Navies at War WWII? *** Once NAW-WW2 is released.. $10! I am seeing if its feasible to do a upgrade as a download rather then having to ship another CD. Ill let all of you know if that idea will work or not. Hold on to your serial # as that will be required for the upgrade in either case. ;-) Thanks NWS Team Director ***" and finally, one from me, alias Racketyjack... ;) " From: "JB. Gerald" <racketyjack@y...> Date: Fri Mar 19, 2004 7:36 pm Subject: Re: TAS evolving into NAW-WW2 /w NWS reply Ill be upgrading to NAW-WW2. Ill also donate for the FSP 9.5. Just gotta wait till payday... :0) This all sounds great to me, really looking forward to it. Do you think the game system will be as tactically flexible as the old Carriers at War game? *** That is the plan. One of the directives of the design is to allow the player to make the tactical decisions quickly and easily so as not to be left out of the action. For example.. you will be able to set up air searches, launch air strikes using selectable ordnance, setup CAP, etc.. using carrier and land based aircraft operations. The AA combat will also be more detailed. I have played both Carriers At War and Carrier Strike and enjoyed them both.. NAW-WW2 will be a very direct competitor with those designs but you will also have the ability to handle surface engagements through NAW, FSP, or WC. NAW-WW2 will also be a continualy updated product after release as we do with all of our productions.. meaning more features and special requests will be added through downloadable updates for registered owners. Any new features that are applicable to both NAW-WW2 and NAW-WW1 will be added to both editions. NAW-WW1 also wont just cover WW1.. it will also be able to cover the Russo-Japanese War either at time of publication or soon after with a downloadable update. The overall goal of the Navies At War Series is to be the some of the most comprehensive simulations of naval campaigns ever developed. Quick note: I cant promise this yet.. but we are looking at a way for TAS owners to upgrade to NAW-WW2 via a downloadable update so as to save on shipping cost for a CD to be mailed. We will post more news about this soon. Thanks Christopher Dean NWS Team Director / Projects Designer ***" All in all, it looks really cool. Ive been hoping for something that would improve upon the old Carriers at War. Carrier combat has always been my favorite form of gaming harking back to the days of Avalon Hill's FLATTOP. Now it looks like Ill finally be able to scratch that itch bigtime...YEAH BABY! :D ;)

  24. I hear ya chief. CV's in any era era what Im after. IL2 is gonna have them this autumn and SFP1 too...well thats just plain KEEEWL! :D The A7-E is a fine plane to have just for this too methinks. Love flyin it AD, well done!
  25. Yes, Im a fan of both these planes myself. The Yak is definately an interesting plane to have in a sim. I was surprised to see how well it could turn though considering how big the plane is. You'd think it would be less agile, kinda like the ME-110 or most other twin engine "fighters". But then again, it wouldnt be the first time I made a wrong assumption, hehe. I finally strightened out and extended at a good moment and got out of range of him before turning back and lobbing an AIM at him that ended the problem in question. ;)
